Predator 5 announced - Why can't they leave this fucking franchise just rest in peace?

That sounds like the best idea ever. Spanish Conquistadors vs Aztec warriors who have to join forces to fight a Predator hunting them. Have the Spanish arrogantly think they can shoot the Predator with flintlocks before it blasts them straight through their armor and they all crap their pantaloons, while some Aztecs start worshiping the Predator as the ultimate warrior and attempt to offer it a sacrifice. The Predator is so outraged it brutally slaughters them all while sparing the sacrifice. Film ends with a Spaniard using a gunpowder bomb to injure the Predator before an Aztec disembowels the Predator with an obsidian knife and a waterfall of green blood shoots out of the Predators chest.
The movie could draw a parallel between Conquestadores fighting the Aztecs and the Conquestadores fighting the Predator. The Spaniards on one hand with their heavy steel armor, armed to the teeth with state of the art European firearms and riding horses. On the other hand Aztecs equippement with obsidian-daggers and shark-tooth-swords. The Spaniards slaughter the Aztecs like there was no tomorrow until the Predator arrives and does the same with the Spaniards. As hamfisted as it would be, I'd take the "killing more primitive people with modern weapons is a dick-move m'kay" message over "REE is named after the redskin word for NO cause men are icky and stoopid" any day of the week.

The first Predator is kind of in this weird spot, much like From Dusk till Dawn, where it does a bait and switch. Both movies start out with a certain storyline and suddenly, a completely different plot takes over. FDtD is a gritty, brutal movie about two criminals on the run that suddenly goes completely bonkers and in an entirely different direction out of fucking nowhere. Predator starts out as an action war-movie in the jungle until the Predator shows up. In both cases, the first plot is pretty good, but the second one is so fucking amazing, you don't even care that it just barged in and took over.

This "Spaniards vs Aztecs" plot would offer that in a great way and I could totally get into a plot about some dude named Ramirez trying to amass vast fortunes by slaughtering the savages. I know already that I am not going to care about REE and her quest to become a real boy and I'd only wait and bid my time until the Predator arrives and even then I know it'll be lackluster as fuck.

No wonder Disney has Marvel making variant covers for the franchise. I forgot that the mouse inherited Fox.

I'd forgotten that was a plot point in The Predator until you reminded me with this post. *sigh*

Wasnt it that the predator could smell tism

Because you can smell tism you dont need a predator for that its just dirty clothes and BO and heavy perfume or AXE. Possibly also doodoo

And the predator also thought tism was an advantageous mutation evolution at work it obviously never visited kiwi farms dot com while doing recon for its Hunt

And never forget, the galaxy's favorite game: hunt the autistic. And once you got them, you push them down, record their screams and turn their heads into Sonichu totems.

does this mean no more alien or predator comics from dark horse anymore? also how sad is it that once upon a time Predator vs spiderman would have been awesome.
Marvel's going to be doing them in the future. There are some upcoming omnibuses collecting the Dark Horse material. I'm not sure who's going to writing them for Marvel, but I'm not optimistic they will be any good.

It's funny how there's more than one of these sci fi franchises of the 70s, 80s and 90s that should have quit with movie number two.

Namely Alien, The Terminator and Predator, all great movies with great sequels (well Predator 2 is not on the level of Aliens and Terminator 2 but it's still solid) but none of them have managed another movie to really be worth it beyond the first sequel.

Why was the 80s/early 90s such a highly creative time for movies and why was there such a steep decline since?

I would assume that making movies was much more open to outsiders, so you'd get inspired creative people flooding Hollywood with their ideas. Special effects became more refined and allowed more cool stuff at lower costs and companies in general seemed to be willing to take some risks.

Then the writer's strike happened and the culture in Hollywood became even more nepotistic and cronyistic than it was before. Now, you have trust fund kids that kiss up to the correct people ending up in major positions of power and companies that would rather slit their own throat than to take a risk, so they meddle with any movie they finance, give no liberties to people with a vision and what we get is corporate approved, focus-group-tested gargabe that tries to appeal to everyone, while really not appealing to anyone.

Also, this thread is kind of magical.
When it got bumped the last time, I was thinking it was a new thread cause I could not remember reading about this project before and then was totally surprised when I figured out I had made this thread myself.
Even the spectacle of these shitty projects being announced and a franchise getting buttfucked by politics has become such an everyday occurance, it's not even leaving any imprint on my mind when I make a thread about it myself.

That's how indifferent I have become to the meanderings of hypocritical assholes in Hollywood.

............oh no no no.....are they going to try to fucking tie this into that flintlock pistol at the end of Predator 2? Because Disney doesn't count novels/comics as source material for their sequels and that pistol was already explained....they could also change out Raphael for Kee in the climax, but instead of it being his own crew mutinying on him, it's Kee fighting white men....And somehow this is going to wind up tying into Greyback giving Harrigan that pistol because as an alien from another fucking planet, he's going to understand the plight of the black man is similar to the struggle of the Comanche....somehow.....

You have to be fucking kidding me! This shit again? Another Predator movie after the disaster of the last one only confirms that Hollywood just wants to continue losing money because they don't have a clue and would rather double down than admit they made a mistake. These creatively bankrupt faggots can't stop ass raping the corpse of dead franchises because they are incapable to create new concepts, it is sickening.

How are they even going to call this one? Consider how utterly retarded the naming convention for this franchise became after 2.

Predator > Predator 2 > Predators > The Predator > ???
