Do you have to sell your whole account? There doesn’t seem to be a community market like there is on Steam.

not necessarily, what's usually done is you trade a low value item for the purchased item using roblox's trade feature after paying offsite. but roblox will ban you without hesitation if they catch you doing it, it's happened to famous content creators (both game makers and youtubers etc), people will buy entire accounts if an item isn't tradeable though (or if they have a "good" username)
this is why older items are worth more even if newer items are worth more robux, they are on old inactive accounts or people got banned for buying them
there IS a community market only for limiteds aside from trading but it's all in robux and the truly high value items are usually only circulated through offsite real money or bitcoin purchasing

Thanks, so what I’m getting from this is that until my kids have grown out of it forever, they shouldn’t try to sell anything, because they might lose their accounts and everything in them.

I thought part of that moderation was barring the transfer of Robux to $ without verification that you made the profits in a way they would want? I don't think selling limiteds is the kind of boost to their platform they are asking for when they shell out money.

i wouldn't think so because of how exploitable it is, because there's so many groups that just steal and overprice clothes to trick dumb kids and have millions of robux in their group funds, and the devex page specifically says make games on roblox

Roblox is being sued over not issuing refunds to purchasers of deleted items. Here's an excerpt from Bloomberg.

“The company’s decision to sell first and ‘moderate’ later has obvious monetary benefit for Roblox,” according to the lawsuit. “By the time defendant has deleted items from the Avatar Shop and users’ inventories, it has already taken its 30% commission from the sale.”

I also got a hold of the complaint (attached.) It has a lot of funnies in it.

About fucking time. They don't just delete rule-breaking content, they delete random shit like "doge pants" and you don't see a penny even though you spent real money to get it. They know damn well what they're doing, it's like how they also allow games that have purchase prompts that pop up on the screen during a part where you're supposed to be tapping it rapidly, all it takes is one button press to be down however many robux the jew who made the game decided to charge you. They know kids (their core userbase) are too stupid to fight back against it.

That is an amazing complaint. Kinda cool that this guy is off to the Supreme Court because his daughter got ripped off when she bought some cartoon pyjamas. Maybe I’ll get me some doge pants refund money?

We still have to advertise my game though so we just made a new ad and spent another $100. Roblox fucking sucks.

I remember playing Roblox quite a bit a while ago. It's a shame much of the games and creators went down microstransaction routes that would have made EA blush in envy.

I remember the weird clan wars with FEAR and how fast their public chat wall went. People raided FEARs "base" (basically an owners level) and it was so poorly designed, there was no spawn protection.
Even my younger self thought that was retarded but it was fun in a strange way.

Remember when you could upload personalized ads on Roblox at the cost of TIX and the amount of TIX invested would have affected how often your ads were seen? iirc, 100 TIX netted 60-80 impressions or clicks I think.

I think I remember Rogue Lineage and how there's an entirely separate Discord server for that game dedicated to porn of the characters.

At least it isn't like Catalog Heaven, where people would willing spend $50 on a gamepass hoping to get like 40 good weapons but they end up with only three working weapons. Even worse are gear fighters who will spawn $100 on a single catalog gear because it gives them the best chances of winning in their little slapfights where they continuously spawnkill one another and record it with rap music.

Last time I played it (circa '16 or so) most of the gear was free and the only stuff locked behind a paywall were sets of broken OP gear that you were guaranteed to get if you bought the respective pass.

I posted about it here. In short:

1. Gears are no longer updated.

2. Newer gears completely powercreep any of the older gears in that "set of broken OP gears" you were talking about. Compare 1000 damage energy balls that travel at 16 mph to explosion rays that can bypass health from 100 feet away. The metagame is composed of ~15-20 weapons out of the 2000 available weapons in the catalog since there is such a gigantic power gap.

3. The game itself getting disemboweled by some rando using a bot that can crash servers on a whim and is making dough by selling immunities to it.

All of this, because the dev was inactive and made a game based on catalog gear of all things.
In other words, it turned into 2B2T. I join Discord servers dedicated to it and people still surprisingly do 1v1s in that game. They use private servers of course, since normal servers are nigh-unplayable. Think the dudes also have to act as jannies in the case of exploiters since there isn't any active moderation or anticheat to stop someone from spawnkilling entire servers.
