"Very pleasant 27-year-old left-handed lady", wrote no medical professional, ever

it is without any sense of hyperbole the funniest thing I've ever seen on this site and I once laughed for several hours over a post in the Sammie Bushart thread of her looking down at the camera that said "imaging if you were a plate of spaghetti and this was the last thing you saw "

My favourite doctor-speak is when they start reports with that, or 'this delightful gentleman...'. From what I can gather (lowly clerk who just reads the things) 'pleasant' means 'not evidently drunk/high, smelt ok, didn't try to menace drugs out of the receptionist or fight other patients in the waiting room'. If patient is also polite and/or laughs at doctor's bad jokes they get a 'delightful'.

Mis-spelling medical conditions worryingly common, too. Or perhaps that's just the handwriting, transcribed by a normal person.

I feel like I found another munch. It’s an artist named Arabella Proffer. Part of her identity for a long time has been her cancers. She even moved to live near the Cleveland Clinic. While I don’t doubt she’s had cancer before, I’m starting to doubt her latest claims. About a year ago she announced on social media she’d be dead in a couple months from cancer. Then she starts posting promoting her art along with her impending death which turned into a lot of sales and gifts. Says she started doing chemo. Shaved her head but very obviously did not lose it to the treatment. Has been going on lots of fun vacations before she dies....I dunno. I’m skeptical. Look her up of you’re curious. Maybe I’m just an asshole.

she certainly looks like a munchie at any rate

First time posting. If this isn’t appropriate lmk and I can delete.

so I found this super OTT spoonie. Not sure if she’s faking entirely but she is definitely exaggerating. And grifting for donations. Constantly talking like she is going to die tomorrow even though she also has said it will probably be 10-15 years before she dies? Wears an eyepatch bc of double vision but has a ridiculous explanation for it. Posts extremely uncomfortable videos of her dog licking her...

I dunno there is something amiss here but I’m not enough of a medfag to figure it all out. I know she has twice shaved off a nice thick head of hair bc “chemo was taking it”

and claims an awful lot of conflicting things. It’s quite amusing to watch her try to snap back at anyone who tried to call her out.

(the pause before she realizes she actually is speaking in full sentences is priceless)

her videos about her time as a nurse are... something else. I feel like smug doesn’t even begin to adequately describe her demeanor.

too lazy to make a real timeline but attached are a sampling of some of her videos. They’re worth a watch. Only found a TikTok and IG so far both are tessyloowho for anyone else who’s curious.

^ “I just wish someone would take me out back and shoot me like an old dog” wow. Quite a line

Someone who’s undergoes chemo but doesn’t lose her eyebrows is highly suspect. Also, pretty chonky for someone dying of cancer. If I had to base my opinion on that photo alone I’d chose big fat muchie grifter.

Okay this is all I know from the girl's tiktok. She said when she was young (no idea how young) she had colon failure/intestinal failure that also caused stomach paralysis because her digestive track couldn't move anything out the exit, so the whole system got fucked up. She had an NJ tube then went on TPN for a while. She also said she was misdiagnosed with a mitochondrial disease and then correctly diagnosed with an autoimmune something or other.
Sorry for the splotchy info but her storytime came across my fyp.

The munchie I've been keeping my eye on is tanzchelsea

Chelsea is one of my favorite pet munchies. Every few months, I download the newest fifty pages of her very long and insane caring bridge account--it's fun to binge read. My favorite favorite pet also has an almost ten year long caring bridge account detailing her ongoing struggles w/ random dystonia/seizures (she even gets a helmet for a while), feeding tubes, mcas, teeth removal, etc--and she's a super fundie type (girls all wear shapeless dress or skirts) fun. I don't think I have a download of her recently though, so message if you're interested in her name. Don't want to post it unless I get a chance to archive.

edit, bc I'd evidently started a response to some older post and never finished it

As previously said, describing a patient as pleasant is very common practice. Though, I can try to elaborate a bit more on why. This practice prepares doctors and assistants for dealing with patient care. It’s always relieving to review office notes pre-visit and see the patient coming in will not be ... well.. unpleasant. It also serves as a warning for referral coordinators and specialists. When receiving a referral and the notes are straight to the point or even mention prior “incidents”, you know the patient is likely to be unruly or an asshat. The staff can mentally prepare for these patients beforehand as seeing many patients of an unpleasant nature can be very taxing.
"Pleasant" is weird because it's usually used as shorthand for prosocial behavior and A&Ox4. That's fine. It also shows up as a snide commentary in charts for patients who are complete assholes. I don't know why people can't agree on how to use it. Might just be the area I work in.

Best warning for a patient who is going to be a handful is always the mysterious haloperidol allergy though.

Something I’ve wondered about, do Munchies experience *physical* pleasure from medical attention? Like some junkies go for opiates or uppers, but these people just need a hit of Doctors & Nurses Fuss Over Me? What’s the reward the brain is giving them? Is it a craving for gentle and/or competent physical touch? Presumably there have always been illness fakers, so what role does the broad institution of “medical science” have to do with this? How did it manifest, say, 500 years ago? Did they just pretend whatever old shit & get shipped off to a convent so put-upon nuns could sponge-bathe them until they all died of typhoid?
Long time lurker, first time poster, etc. I'm cautious about powerlevelling, but am an ex-munch and thought I could provide some psychological answers. If not wanted/needed, just tell me to fuck off & I'll return to the shadows.

The brain reward is kind of exciting, because you're lying and getting away with it, but the main focus is the concern and attention from other people because it makes you feel loved for once. I'd guess that most of the munchies in this thread were neglected emotionally in some way by their parents, intentionally or not, and when they got legitimately sick - like Morgan with mono or whatever the fuck she had in high school - the parent/caregiver suddenly gave a lot of 1:1 attention, and it gets locked into your brain that the only way to elicit care from this person that you depend on is to have something wrong with you that's not your fault.

I can't comment on the doc/nurse attention because I was never into it, but I'd guess that if you don't even get the concern from family/friends, you'd go after care from outside sources. (Kelly Ronahan comes to mind, with that fucked family)

It might also be linked to critical/pushy parents. In a mild way that most people can relate to, if you fake a sick day, your parents might let you off school or let off nagging about your homework or grades for a minute, and it provides some reprieve from that stress - they leave you alone and you escape the expectations for a bit.

I'm wary about giving too much personal information, but if anyone else has questions I'll do my best to answer them.

I don’t know how others feel, I lurk this board mostly, but I definitely have a question or two and same goes for telling me to fuck off if this is shitting up the thread.

what finally got you out of munching? Congrats, by the way, on not being that anymore.

tanzchelsea is a mess. She needs to be on here. 100%. That is if you can get past her wretched voice.

You said ex-munchie... why did you stop?

Did you fake it or did you make yourself sick via meds/self harm/whatever?

What exactly is the endgame here? Infinite sympathy, asspats, donations, e-fame?

The EMT is correct. Also, pretty amazing she had an imminent RSI and then was able just to be hanging out on a nasal cannula. God's good or she's full of shit.

Eye patch girl is quite the trip.

Name: Tess Nicholson
Location: Maine

Has an active lisence in the state of Maine as an RN, claims to have worked in Pysch/ER. Father was a psychiatrist (passed away). Her "specialist neurologist" I suspect is known (works at a healthcare system in NH owned by MGH) for high rates of prescribing ports and IVIG. Loves diagonsised small fiber neuropathy, loves his skin punch biopsies, and loves diagnosing POTS.

She claims that palliative care refuses to prescribe her narcotics. I have tried to achrive some of her stuff, but her tik tok has so many videos...

I believe palliative care said no narcotics to someone with a projected timeline of 10+ years. Why would you want to mess up her tolerance for when she really needs it?

You want the hookup? Get hospice on board. They're giving ketamine for end of life trips.
