Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

I checked Nexus and no one is even bothering to make slutty clothes/nude mods for Cyberpunk2077. You know your dead gay game is dead when not even the nude modders want it.
And this is the game with collectable dildos...

It's really telling, there are some really janky games that are more than a decade old still being kept on life support by dedicated modding communities, then you have CP 2077 where even the Nexus autists have moved on to something else.

I almost bought into the hype, seeing as the setting is neat, but I watched a few hours of a gameplay stream and there's really nothing there for me. Combat all looks pretty samey, driving physics look like shit, most of the missions look samey and while the environment is really neat looking it doesn't appear there's much reason for someone to drive around and explore it. You can make a shit-ton of money but like GTA IV it doesn't seem there's a whole lot to spend it on, thus defeating the entire point. Not to mention, they make such a massive point of honing in on the "extreme character customization" [choosing a penis/etc] and after the initial character creation it doesn't seem you can change it at all. Isn't the lore that in this universe people can essentially rebuild their bodies and drastically change themselves? But you, the player-character, can't even get a fucking tattoo. The Saints Row series had better customization than that.

Not even sure I'd pick it up on sale either because the combat just looks boring.

I dunno, I could still see it happening to Rockstar with GTA VI considering how many of their old timers have left at this point.

I'd argue we've already seen it start with the abysmal state of Red Dead Redemption 2 post launch.

I just have this really bad feeling that GTA VI it's going to be so shity. GTA V was somewhat fun as long as you played with in the storyline, but as soon as you left the narrative to do your own thing is when you realized it lacked the amazing AI that GTA IV showcased.

If somehow GTA VI could bring back the off the rails amazing gameplay that was possible in GTA IV then I would be all over that like bees on honey.

I'm still amazed to this day when I load up GTA IV how unique and random every interaction is with the general populace within the game. It's tantamount to having your own Holodeck.

Sadly that's what I was hoping to find with Red Dead Redemption 2, but I couldn't stand the slow pace. Travel times took forever. Sure it was pretty, but I'm not playing games just because they're pretty.

Nah, it'll be Starfield. You don't even need PR hype machines anymore, the dumbass consumer does it himself now.

Plus you got Todd Howard coming out saying, "Diversity is our strength" tier shit and made announcements to hire minorities because they're minorities -- if I remember right.
You kind of do need PR Hype machines to get hype to the level that CP2077 has had. Game journos don't even really talk about Starfield that much, so the average dumbass normies who made Skyrim the thing worth re releasing 3 times aren't paying attention to it.

Plus there is already this expectation of Bethesda to be jank at launch so the backlash wouldn't be nearly as huge.

Fallout 76 was arguably the worst thing to come out of Bethesda as a publisher to date, and even that didn't get nearly the hate Cyberpunk did.

Yeah, FO76's backlash was less about the game itself, and more about Bethesda being staffed by morons.

They managed to repeatedly fuck up in ways that surprised even me. Accounts being accessed by other players. The tote bag issue. The website trouble tickets being visible. The Nuka-Cola Rum mess.

There will not be another Cyberpunk for a while. There will be disappointing games, sure. There will be disasters, yes.

There will not be another Cyberpunk. For there to be another cyberpunk you're going to need a developer stupid enough to announce a game FOUR YEARS before they even begin development on it. Not just announce the name or say that it will come eventually in a board meeting, or that they acquired the license, but put out a full on cinematic trailer hyping the game up.

You need the entire gaming media covering said game for roughly 8 years. Say what you will about Starfield and GTA VI hype, there isn't much coverage of them outside of vague rumors that only hardcore fans pay attention to.

You need a developer stupid enough to completely change the direction of the game two years before release.

You need a developer stupid enough to tie themselves to one of the biggest names in hollywood, upping the hype factor even more.

You need a developer stupid enough to to make all sorts of financing deals with console manufacturers forcing a release within a timeframe.

You need a console manufacturer to apparently skip out on all certifications/checks that allow the game to not even run on said systems.

You need tons of Youtubers to bold face lie about how great the game is in previews.

You need them to not only release said game that doesn't work on system, but then to go and remove the game from their storefront after the damage is done. (this is the big one)

The AAA industry is fucking retarded, but it takes effort to get to this level of disaster. And after it was all said and done, normies didn't even really care that much. It was the gaming press that made the biggest stink of it all. Similar to No Man's Sky, it was a reaction based on all of them overhyping the game only to have egg all over their face after it was said and done.

That's probably because despite it being a fucking joke at launch, Bethesda actually worked on it to make it passable. CDPR can't do that because they hired dangerhair Canadians, which Todd Howard said he'd be doing too for Starfield -- albeit not exclusive to Canadia. That's my reasoning why it's gonna be bad, but like @ProblematicUser420 said, I doubt it'd be the equivalent of Cyberpunk more just the next big failure.

Oddly enough in all of the time ive played this ive never had one of those show up. Ambient dongs yes but no pickups. I think it might be because i started off with a russian torrent of the game, but in my brief looks through config files i dont see a no dildo option.

It would have been hilarious if such an option existed. Imagine being the dev who had to write the code for that. Imagine the QA tickets: "dildo found in Steve's apartment even with noSpawnDildo=true in config." It must have been surreal working on a game with this sort of content to begin with. At least with Saints Row the Third and its purple dildo bats they were doing a piss-take and they knew it.

This was the main mistake IMO. Buy putting out a cinematic trailer in 2012, you are telling the public that you are actively working on the game then. You are telling the public that it will be out on, and run like its shown, on the next gen systems. In 2012 the next gen systems were the base PS4 and Xbox one.

Eight years later and it looks like an Atari 2600 game on those systems.

doubt anyone would've cared if the game would at least be above average. besides, for the first few years it was more of a meme, the real hype started after witcher 3 and everybody was creaming themselves over it, which then got transferred to cyperpunk (and happily fostered by cdpr). with or without it the game was just too much of a disaster.

I really wanna see those gog number and if their devotion stunt had any impact. certainly had for me.
also lol @ "work on fixing the game".

Dayamn.

I would be surprised if there wasn't some serious upper-management turnover with that kind of profit drop.

"We're fixing the game" is basically your loser brother-in-law saying "I've got some applications out right now."
Right up there with 'the check is in the mail' and 'don't worry baby, I'll pull out in time, honest'.

I know I'm being horribly optimistic, but I really do hope this puts a stake in the heart of current development philosophy, which seems to be 'just ship it in a half-ready state and patch after launch'.
