Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I mostly agree, but I feel like you're not giving the Z-Crystals enough credit.

Sure, they were more relevant for their ability to potentially allow you to deal "fuck you" damage to your opponent, but they also added versatility to status moves and lesser used attacks by giving them extra effects. They made it to where Z-Splash gave your Pokémon plus three in attack!
I did not know that.

Would have been another thing GF could have mentioned in some flavor text like "dude this z crystal makes your pokemon waaay stronger and hit harder" when you got them. There were a few where it was literally the equivalent of picking up a random item off the ground with zero context. But where they put some effort in, it was actually really good. Like the Abandoned Poke mart.

Z-Splash was such a fun gimmick, I miss having that option on mons like Tsareena, Solgaleo, and Gyarados.

Solgaleo was one of the last really well designed cover legendaries in a while IMO.

Wrong.
Honestly, I jus train a new team every game. Find new favourites. In fact, finding new Pokémon is part of the fun. Otherwise, there would not be that much fan excitement over finding cut Pokémon.
When Gen 5 came out I was really negative on it and never finished it. Recently I reset my cartridge for Black 2 and restarted it while forcing myself to only use Gen 5 mons and I'm enjoying myself a lot more. Is it the best in the series like people here claim? No not at all. Is it good though? Yeah.

I intend to do this with my copy of Y and UltraSun as well when I'm done with Black 2 since I never finished those either. It really makes the games more interesting and like you said I've found Pokemon that I wouldn't have spared a second thought that now I really like.

I thought that was the actual only way to play since transferring Pokémon from a previous gen was made to be a huge PITA involving quite the journey to track down the various software, hardware, and emulators required.

The pal park in GEN IV was the simplest example of this imo (besides GEN 1 to GEN 2's time capsule.)
but the retarded artificial cap of 6 a day and constantly changing the clock to bypass that gets old fast.

Or you could just play it the normal way and not bother with that completely optional side quest that wont matter since you'll have been required to have beaten the entire game by then anyway with a brand new team AND have the national dex already lol. :story:

At least they were in Gen VII, albeit way too late into the game. Gen VIII got rid of them altogether.
They were also too lazy to just retexture the national dex for GEN VII and copy them over. No one could really tell the difference due to the art style.
Since all the Pokémon are in GEN VII but there is no more national dex starting in those games.

Playing through each game and trying to maximize them independent of one another does sound more fun than running the same team. In a way maybe the cross-play between generations can hinder the experience for some types of players.

Without that mechanic, the series becomes more akin to playing Dragon Quest or something. Very similar games but each unique in their own ways. And trading up teams can diminish some of that.

Black/White 2 greatly expanded 1's Pokedex to include older Gen's Pokemon. Often very early like Growlithe being catchable right after the first Gym I think. This kind of made me gravitate to old favorites and it got boring when I first played Gen 5 8 years ago. Gen 6 could not stop fellating Gen 1 and so almost all of Gen 1 is catchable in that game and honestly I only got like 2 hours into UltraSun since there were too many cutscenes so I have no idea what is actually there apart from what was in the first few grassy areas,

When will they make a giant game where we can catch them all?? That's what I want. Doesn't even need to be super lame 3D like Sword and Shield.

Looking back I think that is why I liked first gen so much. At the time, the game actually had them all. And after that you could never catch them all so I played other stuff.

HeartGold/Soul Silver removed the 6-a-day cap.

Also I would say Gen V -> VI on top of Gen I/II VC and VI -> VII are the easiest, even though it costed $5 annually. You could do it all with one system(any 3DS/2DS model). Gen III -> IV also only needed one system(which had to be a original model DS or DS Lite), but the process was pretty time-consuming even in HGSS due to the nature of the minigame you use to obtain your Gen III Pokemon. Gen I <-> Gen II , Gen IV -> Gen V , and Bank -> Home to are the only inter-generational transfers that needed more than one game console. Sending stuff from Bank to Home also requires 2 different subscriptions, on top of that.

Been researching this and I think you've got it correct. The Bank and Home fees are a real hassle. But then again... Game Freak.

I'll give them this - the boxart is miles better than SWSH. It's a nice change from just slapping official art on the box and calling it a day.

I'm honestly conflicted - on one hand I want to give the DP remakes a chance considering another company took it on board but I also know Masuda had his grimy hands on it too and I've been let down enough times to not get the games on release date any longer (as well as the fear that Masuda added his trademark shiny lock to the starters and catchable legendaries because why give full odds hunters a fun challenge, am I right?).
A bit late but, I really feel like shiny mons don't have any real value anymore with the fact that you can get the odds down to 1/100 or thereabouts with SwSh, or 1/32 in Go and then transfer them. It feels like they are just handed to you on a silver platter, especially with the SwSh raid events, and since you barely have to work to get them anymore I just expect half the teams I battle online to be fully shiny.

I still have my first ever shiny from Sapphire, a Wailord with the name Beutiful because I was a dumbass kid and couldn't spell, and I would value that single Mon over the 15 I've caught in Shield.

Making shinys a goal, rather than a more serendipitous occurance also cheapens then a great deal.

No idea why it still works as a "legitimate" pokemon, but I don't put much stock into competitive or online pokemon matches and just wanted to see if I could actually do it.

Can still be KO'd by people who no life breed their pokemon for the "perfect EV's" tm with some exploits they know combined with how well they know how to use them, but its still funny how you can theoretically use glitch pokemon in online play this way. I just play for fun and to explore the pretty well made worlds GF used to make consistently every Dev cycle.
I don't do much competitive battling anymore, I used to be really big into it in Gen IV, other than dabbling in ranked a bit with my Regigigas meme team. I've bred two full boxes worth of perfect IV spread competitive Pokemon with full movesets and items that I'll likely never really use other than casually or in PVE like the Battle Tower.

I actually really enjoy the breeding aspect of making a competitive team, more so than the actual battling even. It's fun to breed down one by one to get the right IVs for new parents and seeing the following children get closer and closer to what you want in the end.

I find it funny that Pokemon incest is the opposite of real incest because the resulting children gets progressively more and more powerful the deeper you go, or maybe that's just their retard strength progressively increasing as they become more inbred.

I would go with "anime retard strength" to explain the stat improvements of Pokémon breeding.

Personally, I like using only one Pokémon, usually one from the first route (so for Gen V, it would be Liepard or Watchog). Helps make the game more difficult at some points.

If Gen 8 is anything to go by, that giant game will never happen outside of fangames. Which is fine by me, I love Pokémon Clover.

Was there no this copypasta (am I using tha term correctly?) on how Satoshi printed out comments from fans that wanted every region in one game, then Satoshi and his workers laughed a those comments?

I've been playing BW2 as well and the full dex is probably my only complaint so far. At least there's plenty of good gen 5 mons unlike SwSh where I forced myself to use bad gen 8 mons.

Please tell me this person is joking and not being delusional claiming Pokemon ripped off Dragon Quest. They even closed off replies to non followers.
That has to be a joke. After all, that is a meme.
Then again, Dragon Quest was a big inspiration to Pokémon. Besides, did not someone in this thread say tha the monster-collecting concept started with Dragon Quest V?

I love the ongoing, decades long war to prove the ancestry of these games, that this mon game or that mon game is actually a rip of this other mon game, and it's still going on like the concept of 'my pet can kick your pet's ass' is something so incredible only one person could have come up with it.

That doesn't even hold true in any english-speaking country, and we didn't have the fuckin' beetle battles in most of them.
