I definitely do think all of those things contribute. I center the discussion around feminism because feminism is supposed to be the solution that young women turn to feel empowered over misogyny and predation, and that makes it all the more important to course correct when it fails at being that.

In being mainstreamed and commercialized, feminism has been allowed to become appropriated by sexist and other counterproductive interests. I think the most detrimental aspects of these are the emphasis on hypersexuality and hyperfemininity, the wokescolding intellectual elitism that has infested many social movements with valuable causes at their core, and the fearmongering that is used to keep women afraid without actually making them feel like there are solutions to their problems.

I don't think these weakspots of third wave feminism are the only cause of teen girls falling down the trans rabbithole, but I do feel it's a really understated part of the phenomenon. I think it's being underestimated how much some of the current trends in feminism are alienating young girls and pushing them away from a movement that otherwise might benefit them.

What I saw repeatedly was scared and hurt young girls with very gendered issues looking to feminism for answers, not finding what they found or disliking what they found, and then turning to gender ideology, which conveniently had all the answers laid out for them.

I don't think this means feminism as a whole is to blame—I just think current issues in the feminist movement of the last decade or two are contributing to a weird feminism-to-troonism pipeline for a lot of girls.

I think men perpetuate the sexualisation of their daughters even if they don't think they do and even if they don't push towards sexualized clothes and behavior. It's a lot more complicated than that. If they enforce the idea that as girls there's some things they can't do that boys can, girls will search for the things they can do that boys can't, and society will tell them what it is (ie: being an object). A lot of men perpetuate gender stereotypes even if they don't own up to it: you should find a husband, you should be this or that way, you are fragile, your opinion matter less, you should be quieter than boys and do more chores ..ect... too much gender essentialism in general will naturally prep the girl to adopt unhealthy behaviors.

Also the stuff they don't want their daughter to do/say or wear they will react more positivly when it comes from other women: still having porn at home that the kids will find, still watching shit tv, still reating negativly to women who don't perform feminity, or are older, still surrounding their daughter with sexualized female roles models and hardly anything else, just forbidding them from emulating them. It's a mixed message to say the least if you yourself are obsessed with thots and can't give positive non-sexualized female role models to your kid.

Another angle: being rigid and prude and not letting them experiment with gender, both girliness and the opposite, will make the girls want to rebel and go towards the forbidden.
Another angle: Not being positive and invested in their achievments enough, so the girl will look for validation in other places.
And so on.

For sure being feminine is considered a status-symbol in lower class more than it is in higher class. Higher class women can rely on money and education to get respect, status and security in a way lower class people can't.

But kids are not vase you fill with stuff, they can react in various ways to the daily mix of ideas they are gonna receive from their familly, peers, as well as medias and the education system. You can blame fathers or mothers depending on your biais but the truth is: it's complicated.

If they had "fought with love and acceptance in their hearts" to begin with, the movement wouldn't be as hated as it is. If they had acknowledged that sex-based spaces are important, that they cannot control how other people refer to them, and simply got on with making sure they had the same rights as everyone else to live as they wished, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. But only when they fail at forcing everyone to play along do they go back to "our movement is about LOVE and ACCEPTANCE and we will just have to win people over by being nice." "gender non conforming women" is kinda meaningless these days because the modern day pop culture idea of feminine behavior with its focus on hyper sexualisation and hedonistic consumerism is so artificial and cancerous. it has gotten to the point where i think it's actually healthier for girls to reject most of it instead of conforming to it.

the problem then is that nobody is really presenting any sort of viable alternative to them, with tranny shit being the only 'alternative' that is supported and pushed, and it's even more cancerous and damaging than the regular stuff. shit's fucked all around.

Exactly. Am I "gender non-conforming" if I don't use contour? Or put on makeup at all? Or wear a bra? What if I wear sweatshirts? Or what about wearing vintage clothes? It's definitely not conforming to modern gender standards. The definition is just so meaningless it doesn't even need to be said.

I think commenters in here are right that the sexual liberation movement opened itself too wide and a lot of money is now invested in selling women the idea that sexualizing themselves is good. Whether it was hijacked by men or capitalist companies or women one-upping each other doesn't really matter; the point is that all these groups benefit from having a clear marker of their status (women) and easy access to sexually available women (men). That is the downside of loosening the cultural expectation so rapidly and severely. It creates a worse environment for women trying to maintain their self-respect in a world that's tugging them a certain way.
