I don’t think Phil realizes that normal well adjusted people don’t refer to their wife and pet as a “family”.

When Phil says that, and we know he’s talking about his wife he’s known less than a few years, and his adopted cat, he is desperately pushing a narrative that he is “successful” and has something safe and meaningful. It's great when Phil whips out the ol' 'factually incorrect' phrase because it's clear outside of just parroting it being used by a more intelligent person at one point, he sees it only as a 'I have now won the argument' card and has no clear understanding of what 'facts' he's referencing. That's the craziest thing in situations like this. He once again catches shit for desperately pretending he's someone or something he's not and lashes out in narcissistic rage when his perfect self-image is called into question. He could've just kept saying "couple" and/or "household" all this time and he wouldn't catch shit for it because him and Khet are a couple and since they live together they're a household. Then again this alien called Leanna his "full-time girlfriend" when they moved in together so it's nothing new for him.

The bankruptcy was a gigantic win. In normal times he could've gotten in real trouble over the fraud in those filings. It took a global plague to get him off the hook and he walked away debt-free. It could've been a fresh start.
