The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This is mainly because their arcs are mostly irrelevant to the plot... The main plot doesn't revisit it again, it's up to you to pursue it. So the plot and mandatory events doesn't really factor her character arc in, but they dont need to as her arc has no bearing on the plot or her personality.

The characters arent all marmite. Rise and Teddie are the biggest offenders, mainly for being shrill 'Senpaiiiii' sorts. And if you dont want romance arcs, then every female SL in 4 and 5 have platonic paths too. In 3 you're forced into it though

Understandable, crafting different triggers depending on the social links, interweaving it in main plot scenes and still keeping the flow of the story and dialogue natural is quite a demand. It's a shame, you'd expect some modular bickering or referencing between characters; depending on how far you'd advanced your social links, you'd have different dialogue & interactions which encourage replayability etc. Probably nothing more than wishful thinking on my part, since these games take ages to beat and are filled to the brim with dialogue as is. I guess it comes with the scope.

Wasn't the bonus character added to P4G considered an offender as well? Fans certainly appear to dislike this "Marie". I'll be getting P4G regardless, but I'll bide my time unti the 30% discount hits again this week.

Both are worth playing, if only P3P for the FeMC route and the different SL's she gets
Play FES first though. Portable has a lot of it stripped down, like navigating the town is essentially menus. AI teammates isnt as bad as everyone makes out, you just need to remember to use the orders so the team does what you need them to. Also, Portable isnt balanced for full control so you'll steamroll the game. Finally, while The Answer is a bit of a slog, it does explain the ending which is needed.

Upon checking my PS3, it appears I imagined having downloaded P3 FES when PSN was still around. A practice I recommend to everyone come shopping season: look up the most acclaimed titles and your favourite genres, clear your schedule for the next 4 hours and go on a shopping spree. Doesn't swell the backlog too much and ensures you don't end up with one of those libraries from hell.

Marie got the Poochie treatment when she arrived with P4G, but I never had any problem with her. Mostly I just didn't click with her choice of clothes: Yukiko, Chie, etc. wear rather normal clothes, whereas Marie doesn't. G's added game time (regular P4 has a time skip in the end) more than made up for that, though.

Also I saw MooseGump and Shining Wit talked about P3 Portable, something I also recommend. Play through FES/The Answer first, then P3P afterwards even if some of the mechanics are downgraded. I mentioned I feel something of a heretic when it comes to the Persona series, but I actually like FeMC more than the protagonist of P3/FES because she actually feels like someone people would like to hang around with, unlike the 2cool4school original PC.

Marie is a great design wasted on on a lackluster character. How much you like her depends on your tolerance of cringe poetry how you feel about tsunderes and how you feel about yukari as Marie is a slightly less obnoxious version of her

I don't think think Persona 3 is supposed to make you think the PC is the type of person people want to hang out with, the whole point is that they're a bunch of misfits forced into one dormitory because they have special abilities. Some of your dialogue options at the beginning of the game are incredibly awkward and Yukari outright says to not talk to her at school because she has her reputation to think of. The friendships and hang outs grow out of seeing each other at the dorm every day and being forced to trust their lives to each other, compared to Persona 4's team proactively deciding to work together.

this and the main character of persona 3 start off as this anti-social emofag who just goes along with it because his to lazy to fight back but slowly grows to trust and even see his teammates as friends he was willing to die for.

Didn't they have a previous failed attempt at destroying nyx in persona 3? I remember them alluding to it multiple times throughout the story, and from what I can surmise, most of anti shadow weapons were destroyed in that attempt if they weren't autistically destroyed in underground android deathmatches for "battle data" like the start of P4A and Labrys being forced to destroy unit 024. (the best toaster.)

they added the relevant element deaths in 4. things being exploded by guns is particularly gorey.
I liked the Phys Skill death that made them just burst in blood or the Zan skill that blew them into the sky

God I hope party members being blown away and having to grind random encounters to find them again isnt back

I'm new to SMT and was wondering what Law, Neutral, and Chaos mean?
Since the first game is the alignment that decide what ending you get

Law: they believe they are always right, Humans only exist to worship them, Abrahamic god is a dick , angels are more dicks, is the place where people with no idea of the franchise ended in their first playthrough if you want a example in the first game Thor a law oriented deity launch a nuke to japan and wipe the entire place from the face of the earth just because he wanted to accelerate the new age

Neutral: Atlus favorite route, is mostly Humanity fuck yeah route where you go and kick God and the Devil in the dick and dab on their corpses depend of the game this can be good or bad is mostly "your guys" route

Chaos: You are edgy, all the characters are edgy, they are powerful and want Law to fuck off, depend of the game they border between cartoon villains or people you can sympathize for example Lucifer is less psycho that YHVH and just dick with you so you can yeet him, considering the target demographic of SMT this is one of the favorites factions that is why this is the best route on Nocturne

The thing with a lot of social links in p3 is that they’re normally people you wouldn’t want to hang out with such as

A stick up his butt student council president
A sleazy con man
An alcoholic monk
A potential future sex offendor
And moviebob junior

SMTV looks ok from the trailers but I was hoping the UI would be as slick as persona 5 and I don't know how to explain it but demon models look bit worse than p5 models.
