SCENARIO: Someone has broken into your home and attempted to murder you with a butterfly knife! What do you do?
  1. Call the police immediately, seek safe refuge and double-check the security of your home
  2. Write a formatted longpost to GitHub and post it a mere two fucking hours after the incident happens
This guy seemed to have an obsession with 4chan as much as they did with him and I'd reckon events were exaggerated a bit if they even happened at all. Apparently it started over him getting autistic about /g/ rigging a naming poll which is why Sneedacity now exists as its own fork.

It wouldn't be the first time the detractors of the project have lied to get their way; here's someone filing a request to remove Sneedacity from Arch's repositories because sneed means "special need". Whoever EndlessEden is, their GitHub and LinkedIn is a ghost town, so who knows what they do or why they are equally obsessed with a shitpost fork.
Imagine being so neurotic that you turn your every-day Turkish home invader (not uncommon in post-collapse Germany) into a 4chan buttcoin assassin. Assuming this even happened and it's not as fake as Laura Loomer's tire slasher.

even if supposed assailant knew his address, which wasn’t posted in the /g/ threads, he’d have to know the face of the person he was attacking if the house had “multiple witnesses”. it’s as real as Phil accosting a kiwi and throwing a phone down a storm drain

edit: lol hackernews users fell for the crime scene photo

>4chan users who are into turbonerd software fork drama are supposed to be hardened criminals who will break into your house at night and stab you with knives
I think trannies have just been really emboldened by the mindless adoption of the made-up Byuu shit to think they can just make up any kind of wild tale and it will just automatically be believed. They're not wrong.

All you have to do is be a white man, claim you're a woman, and then instantly every single media outlet has to believe and "amplify" the "signal" of whatever absolutely crazy shit you say.

I looked at cookiedipshit’s contributions and it amounts to:
  • removing the crash reporting tool that would send crash dumps to the old audacity team
  • removing the auto-update feature (in lieu of having people check the releases page/rely on package managers)
That’s it. A net total of 4 added lines and 5,908 removed ones over 6 commits, not counting any PR merges. He checked in virtually zero lines of code (the additions he did make amount to changing a hardcoded URL and accidentally adding whitespace).

I looked at his recent personal projects; every single one of his public repositories is pure JavaScript. He’ll compare to true in expressions that can only ever be boolean in the first place. He uses the ‘let’ keyword everywhere, even in cases where it can be easily avoided. The amount of repetitive else-if chaining containing entire copied code blocks would make yandev blush. He seems to completely avoid using any features of modern JavaScript and writes the way one would 20 years ago; there’s not a single ECMA6 class anywhere which would make life for him a lot easier if he bothered, but he doesn’t seem to understand OOP anyway. Just look through any of the source files in this shitheap because no matter in which file I look he does the same thing.

/g/ is absolutely right to dunk on this guy if he wants to be a maintainer on a C project that he cannot possibly comprehend. It’s a résumé padding gig and he knows it.

Can't even fork an ancient-ass DAW on Github without mentally ill trannies making a scene over it.

This is pretty standard of troon "contributions" to projects. They take out some shit they don't like, add nothing, and then boast of their "contributions." These sociopaths should be identified and eliminated on sight. At least if you want your project to continue to exist. If you don't, then just surrender it to these sociopathic perverts.

The "stabbed by 4chan" incident reminded me from the "stairs muffin" comic from the GamerGate days. It took me a while to find it, but here it is for anyone who doesn't remember (which I presume is most of you by this point):

EmSLm7D.png

It's a small part of all that's going on in the comic, but the meme that came out of it is that anti-gamers would often seem to operate on this logic:
  • Someone is concerned about GamerGate
  • Something unfortunate happens to them (e.g., their stairs muffin has been moved, causing them to trip and fall; or, in the real world, their mother gets sick or Trump gets elected or something)
  • Therefore GamerGate is responsible for the unfortunate thing happening to them
You can definitely apply stairs muffin logic to Cookiengineer's stabbing (presumably it really happened):
  • 4chan made fun of me
  • Some lunatic stabbed me
  • Therefore some lunatic from 4chan stabbed me

Sure, someone broke into your window, used a butterfly knife to not stab you, but only superficially scratch your arm, and then fled while leaving the knife behind… what is up with Germans and retarded made up hate crimes? At least Alois Mannichl went hardcore with his knife when that fake nazi attack happened lol

It's been over a week. Do we have any updates on the infamous hacker known as 4chan's attempt to stab the troon? Or did it just fade away like all those fake outrage stories?

Tbf if I was to ever name a modern-day ethnicity that's most likely to create a false-flag operation with the express purpose of creating a reason to go against/conquer somebody, it'd be the Germans.

Jenny List has his pants in a bunch. Again. As always.

The world of open source software is one that often sees disputes between developers, some of which spawn lifelong schisms between devotees of different forks, and others mere storms in a teacup that are settled over a few beers. There are a couple of stories of late though that seem to show the worst in the online world, and which all of us should take a moment to think about.

Many of you may have heard two weeks ago of the passing of [near], the software developer and game translator whose bsnes emulator for the Super Nintendo was the go-to platform for retro Nintendo enthusiasts intent on the pursuit of the closest possible match to the original without possessing real Nintendo hardware. The details of their passing are particularly distressing, in that they committed suicide after numerous attacks over several years from users of Kiwi Farms, a website notorious for the worst kinds of trolling.

Hot on the heels of that distressing story comes news that [Cookie Engineer] is stepping down as maintainer of the project that’s now called Tenacity, a fork of the popular but now-controversial Audacity audio editor. They are doing so after being targeted by users of 4chan, the most well-known of online trolling websites, following an ill-advised Simpsons joke in a naming poll for the software. [Cookie Engineer] alleges that the harassers knocked on doors and windows where they live and a real-world knife attack followed.

Teacups ready? We've got some fresh brew.

Musescore is a web site that lets you download sheet music. You can download the sheets for many public domain songs after creating an account, but for other songs, you need to have a paid membership. Despite this, they have, or had, documentation for an open API on their site to download sheets without an account or membership, and that API seems to still work. A developer going by Xmader, who is a Chinese national living overseas, created an OSS tool called musescore-downloader which uses that API to download the sheets without an account or membership.

Back in February 2020, Musescore sent a poorly-worded and DMCA-uncompliant takedown request to the developer. The developer created an issue in his repo asking for help with what to do about it, and at the (correct) prompting of many commenters, ultimately did nothing.

Eventually the issue was bumped by Daniel "workedintheory" Ray, the "Head of Strategy" of Muse Group, Musescore's parent company, who tried to justify the takedown request in the issue. He was repeatedly BTFOed by others in the issue, but he kept replying - he seemed to be making taking down musescore-downloader a personal crusade, instead of doing something more practical that he had more power over like getting the Musescore developers to fix their API so that this tool wouldn't work.

Muse Group. Does that name sound familiar? It's the same company that bought out Audacity. So after that stuff started popping off earlier this year, this issue started getting noticed again.

Things have come to a head today, when Ray posted a reply to the issue (archive link since the original has been edited away, though you can still find it if you look at the edit history of the original comment) basically doxing Xmader's real name, and, well, I'll let his words stand for themselves:

Upon further investigation, it became clear that Wenzheng Tang is a Chinese national, but not resident in China. As a guest in his current country, his residency status is predicated on a number of conditions, one of which is not violating the law.

If found in violation of laws, residency may be revoked and he may be deported to his home country.

This becomes even further complicated given another repo of his - Fuck 学习强国, which is highly critical of the Chinese government. Were he deported to China, who knows how he may be received.[…]

So, both repositories remain up, for now, not because we are powerless to take it down... it is that the process of exercising this power could very literally ruin the actual life of another person.[…]

What I have described in this post is not at all a threat, but an informed assessment of your own personal legal risk.

Has anyone actually used the term "this is not a threat" without a very clear threat either proceeding or following it?

So, yeah. I was kind of ambivalent about Muse's takeover of Audacity in the past, but unless the sun sets today with this asshole condemned and fired… fuck this entire company.

Cow crossover: One of the people bringing attention to this event on Twitter is Hector "@marcan42" Martin, the "personal friend" of byuu/Near who is either sitting on incontrovertible evidence of his death and therefore the opportunity to dunk on us incel Kiwi chuds forever, or lying about it completely. But good on him for spreading the news of this particular bullshit.
