TGWTG Mathew Buck / Film Brain / @FB_BMB - Whiny self-sabotaging British film reviewer, bald as Prince William, thick as Prince Harry. Welshy made him watch porn. He was not pleased. Accidentally took his mum to a sex flick. SYMBOLISM!1!1!1!

Does Welshy like him? What about other contributors?
Welshy (in the time I knew him) was very protective and tried to be liked a big brother to him, if that makes sense. They flew over from the UK together for MAGFest several times. Welshy has a very big heart and is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. An example I can think of is at MAGFest when Lindsey Ellis got incredibly drunk and Welshy (even though she shit talked him and made her dislike of him known) made sure her she got back to her room safely and that someone sober was with her.

Nash and he did a few crossovers (particular at MAGFest) and from my recollection, they got along. Mat is one of those actors/performers who needs direction when he's in another person's project, he has no 'actor's instinct'. The one I was in appears to be lost to history/Blip, thank God.

Those are really the only two contributors I remember him working with, in my experience.

But my brief interactions with Mat were all fine, I just think the downfall of CA really hit him and the drama overwhelmed him. He lost a friend group, was made to pick sides, etc. and he has no really transferable skills to a 'real job'.

https://www.patreon.com/FilmBrain Makes £199 per video, he puts out 2 to 3 videos a month it looks like,

Months earnings from ads anywhere between £9 and £151.

Living off this money has got to be hard if he doesn't have at the vest least a part-time job. And while Patreon wise his money is staying around the same, it's still not great. Spoony gets more per month for doing fuck all.

I'm guessing trust fund if I'm honest.

He's probably still living with his parents.
I always got the implication he lived alone but what do I know.

Glad some people from the site aren’t complete jerks. Good for welshy. I think Larry Bundy Jr is what FB could have been if he had charisma or talent. Larry is doing pretty well on his channel and makes good content.

Used to enjoy his BMBs a fair bit back in the day. Some solid structure, no extended comedy skits or political essays. It was refreshingly unpretentious for TGWTG, especially with his catchphrase calling out crass symbolism (something the likes of YMS Dogfucker should learn doesn't equal good moviemaking).

But he hasn't made content like that in years. Maybe the fact he's not still yelling "SYMBOLISM!" ten years later shows a lack of cow tendencies, not to mention the cringe of the Anniversary movies being so far in the past. Yet there he is, still in the same room, with the same bookcase behind him, 12 years later. That said, his podcast is serviceable with some decent guests like Oliver Harper.

Would assume he's a closeted homo, if not for his swimming so long in pozzed geek culture. Rumours about his dad beating him up or somesuch I remember floating around. Probably bollocks.

I watched some of his videos back in the day, but I never stuck around because I found him kinda dry in comparison to people like Spoony. His personality wasn't quite in step with the rest of the angry reviewer crowd at TGWTG, it was a lot more low-key from what I remember. It's been years and the only video from him that I remember enjoying was the one on Breaking Wind, that awful Twilight parody. Given that he wasn't as loud and obnoxious as other reviewers, I am curious about how his content holds up.

That being said, I think it's worth mentioning that he had written movie reviews on the site. They don't seem to be archived anywhere and nobody talks about them, likely because the site was geared towards videos and not written content. The only one I remember was him giving a negative review for Fantastic Mr. Fox, which was also a reason I didn't watch much of his content.

I wonder what he said about it? Fantastic Mr. Fox is hilarious.

I thought this guy was dead given how irrelevant he is online.
He really needs to call it an e-career and rejoin the common wagie.
30 is old but it's not "my life is over" old for a man. He can still learn a trade or go to community college instead of making videos nobody watches and make less than a week's salary per month.

I'm not seeing anything particularly funny either. He seems like a common introvert who enacts himself online, but nothing he says or does is interesting to laugh at, like Lupa or Linkara.

I've met him twice in person and he was very very quiet and seemed very insecure. He had a hard time speaking up for things he needed or asserting himself.
I think that's the real problem, he does not have the personality to make it.
He lucked out when he was young and fell in with a group of other young reviewers who were a friendly safety blanket for a time. Viewers were pretty forgiving too, in the early days. He got some flack for reviews but compared to modern day youtube and twitter people were generally nice, at least as I recall. Now however, he needs to agressively put himself out there if he wants attention, and he also competes with his (ex)-friends who are more succesful. Losing his hair is surely also wrecking what is left of his self-esteem.

A normal person would consider this and either quit and go in a different direction, or take steps to improve, but FB just meanders along. I do feel for him because it can be hard to be a shy and introverted person, but that's why those types of people usually choose different careers than clowning in front of a camera.

I used to watch a lot of his videos back in the day. They were mostly unremarkable and I think I mostly watched them on autopilot, probably like a lot of people on TGWTG - you come for the critic or spoony and then click around and watch some of the others.

I think it was easier then to find some success if you got in with TGWTG, there was a website, videos were all there, fans were there specifically for that type of content and there was a lot of crossover. Its a lot more cut throat now and you really need to bust your ass to carve out an audience and the former TGWTG crew seems incapable and are trying to survive on the same shit they did 10 years ago, FB included. Sad.

So Film Brain got a mention in OneyNG's Slightly Artistic video, where he draws caricatures of the cast of Kickassia with Harry Partridge.
And funnily enough, they draw him desperately holding onto the Nostalgia Critic, seems fitting.

I found the song.

I mean, while NC, AVGN, and Linkara also had/have their own themes, at least they have it where shit happens in their videos that isn’t just talking in front of the camera. Also Mathew just picked an existing song so….maybe he realized he didn’t have much going on to warrant commissioning an original track.

He also had to replace that song with a midi version of it when he reuploaded the older Bad Movie Beatdowns to Youtube.
