The cool thing about most religions is all the rules for them were written thousands of years ago if not longer, and followers are explicitly forbidden from adding on to them, making new ones or changing the old ones. They're subject to "interpretation" but the groundwork remains fundamentally unchanged for centuries. Virtues don't turn into vices overnight, an action considered altruistic a year ago doesn't become problematic , and unless you're getting conned by a false prophet, the rules don't change based on what would benefit them in the moment.
