Money September 2, 2015: Chris moves to Etsy, suggests "donating to book #11 and beyond"

I think you overestimate how common Date Ed-esque comics are, and underestimate how strong Chris' drive to shit out cartoon cliches is. Chris really dislikes the adult influences in Sonichu. He really feels tricked for putting them in there, so he's very afraid of making that mistake again.

He wasn't tricked into being a naive egotistical young artist, lots of young people (Autistic or not) pick up the wrong messages from media and make stupid edgy comics they're embarrassed of later. Chris is just recognizing the flaws in Sonichu and they're there because he's flawed. He did it though, not trolls. They didn't force him to draw or write anything.

Anyone else getting a bit bored of Chris?

Yes. I am almost ready to close the book on him. He went from a homophobic rage virgin with delusions of grandeur to a happy tranny who sells art online. It's a happy ending, and I'm fine letting him ride off into the sunset.

Our advice not to donate to Chris remains.

You're not gonna get Sonichu 11 because he's lazy. Also, doxing, etc.

From my experience, Etsy seems to protect buyers less than Ebay does, which you're going to need when dealing with Chris. Remember when people could file a complaint if Chris took too long to make his Ebay medallions? Etsy probably won't help you with the same issue. I think the move to Etsy benefits only Chris. He found some place where he is held less accountable than on Ebay. The switch from asking for buyers to asking for donations is an indication of that.

I'm not salty Chris is charging what he does for commissions; market forces will have him lower his prices to meet demand - my estimate would be from 100 to probably 30-45 dollars. Chris also doesn't sell skilled work, he sells based on his infamy and that's exactly why he gets bites for any of his work - and good on him! He isn't taking from the pool of people wanting good illustration, he is taking from the pool of people who want Chris to draw them shit.

How long does it take for him to finish an image? Many shitty tumblr commission artists producing awful work for $20 or $30 are by hour working for below minimum wage due to lack of an efficient workflow or using commissions as paid experimentation.

Since I charge by the hour, $100 gets you 6.66 hours of work on a full color illustration (just so you guys get the idea, this is a 6h full color image produced last month). For Chris, his per hour may be much lower unless he autistically smashes out piece after piece in the course of like an hour, which I wouldn't put past him.

Oh, I know. But Chris is a dumbass who refuses to believe he fucked up with the comic. Everything Chris did felt "right" to him at the time, so that means it's completely impossible for him to have been at fault. If it feels right, it was right. That's pretty much Chris' philosophy with everything.

Thing is, though - while your points may be objectively true - Chris's online following has grown so adept at projecting onto everything he does that none of that matters.

Chris could put out a page that was literally just the "why did the chicken cross the road? to get to the other side" joke, and there'd be a 20-page thread here full of people interpreting this in a multitude of hysterical ways.

"Chris wants to get to the other side of gender and be a TRUE AND HONEST woman so he can get China. Mmm yeah."
"Oh Stinky Winky, you want your trolls to be as powerless as a chicken so you can STRANGLE THAT CLYDE CASH, don't you?"
"Chickens lay eggs but you never will, Fatty!"
"The chicken is Barb and the road is Chris and he wants to have sex with her."

"What if Chris were a chicken?"
So I guess this'll be our "Marmaduke Explained"!

As a devoted fan to the Sonichu and Rosechu Comic Book Series, I am certain you do want to see More Pages since I ended up with Creator's Block and forced into Hiatus in 2011. Well, I, Christian, now Christine, Weston Chandler, am getting back into the drawing, writing and coloring recently, and working on a schedule that works around my projects as well. And then, I have my own typical stresses in Life and all.

And if you don't feel like buying a medallion, commission, or figure from me, I offer you a chance to donate towards my own peace of mind to further and better draw and create. $10 for One Full Written, Drawn and Colored Page in my current Book, makes a great difference and everyone wins.

And for each person who donates through here, I will draw and send a single Character Drawing as a sign of gratitude. Requests for drawing content are welcomed, but if no request is made, I shall draw a fresh drawing of Sonichu. **Limit One Drawing Per Person, Per Day.

Thank You for your help.

Didn't he go on hiatus in 2010? I'm pretty sure even the attempted Jackie rewrites were from that year.

Good for Chris, it seems he finally listened to some advice and got on Etsy. Hopefully he'll find a balance of price and sales as these seem a bit expensive.

I sincerely hope he sells a ton of merch partially because it would piss off people who seem rather butt-hurt that he's making money from his art.

*bookmarks your username to commission you later*

I've been really tempted to commission a portrait of one of my pets from Chris for a while, but the price is so high I'd have to save up a small amount of money for a while for it to be worth it and consider that he may just never do it. Just kind of as a novelty thing, it's a pretty stupid idea tbh.

Brother, so much this. What costs could there even be with writing Sonichu that requires "donations"? Donating money to Sonichu #11 is just enabling his lazy ass.

Well the cost isn't coming from the materials he uses. If I remember right he used Pentel R.S.V.P ink pens which are $6 for a dozen, Crayola markers that cost around $20 for 64 of them, and plain white printer paper that runs anywhere from $5 on up. And if he were willing to shop around or wait for a sale I'm sure he could get his supplies cheaper.

Edit: Here's the link to the part of the cwcki discussing his supplies

He should try painting again and produce limited print runs if he wants to start growing his Etsy. If he were slick about it and upgraded to artist level materials, he might even make the front page and get an Etsy Interview. (Some are text, but sometimes include videos of the artists and their workspace) *yawn*

Love to see him graduate to a Pentel ink brush pen!

I'd love to see him dabble in gouache (let alone buy higher grade paper like Bristol, I'm sure Walmart or wherever he has left to go to has 'em).

Given what we know of how piss poor the "quality" of his comics are in the past and how much lazier Chris has become, I get the feeling that if he does draw more "comics" for money, what we'll get is a comic where each page is a poorly drawn splash page of Sonichu characters doing something, or just standing there doing nothing, with no backgrounds and a GIANT wall of text describing what's going on and dialogue balloons full of cliched one liners all over the place with no indication as to who is saying what.

Speaking as a qualified expert, you just described half of Sonichu as it exists.
