I liked Midsommar quite a bit. Its a good fucked up horror movie that looks different from what you usually expect out of horror.
But it also kind of got lost in the shuffle pretty quickly. That's probably the downfall of not being based on an IP as those things seem to fade quicker unless they are attached to some kind of brand.
I feel like the same thing happened to Splice, which was a super fucked up sci-fi horror film (at least as fucked up as mainstream would allow at the time), but didn't seem to have much staying power in the collective conscience.
