You're almost fully caught up. You've only got another ten episodes or so.I tried SU based on seeing the designs of Jasper and Peridot, and I thought I'd give it a try and not let its abhorrent fandom ruin it for me. I like to give most shows a shot before I decide if I really do hate them or not, even though I will fully admit I'm tired of cartoon shows being praised for being deep and metaphorical when most of the time they're just good fun.
I don't have anyone to talk about the show with since it's like how MLP was: you mention it and everyone starts cringing, which is understandable, I did the same when a friend tried harassing me into MLP and I still want nothing to do with that show. Basically I'm just relieved that there's this tiny spot on the internet where people can discuss it without having debates as to who's the greatest genderfluid aceflux kryptonitesexual quartzdemimagigendered autistic character.
I'd have to say my favorite character is Garnet. Her one-liners and interactions with Steven are actually really enjoyable and I like that she gives Steven a chance to prove himself but also knows when to restrain him for his own safety. Pearl's fit about Rose and Steven nearly falling off a cliff and her not even trying to help him up kinda confused me because it seemed so out of character for her to just let him climb back up himself even though he could fall at any second... I'm not so sure how I feel about Pearl as a whole but I don't hate her.
Jasper's awesome - that's all that needs to be said.
Unfortunately I don't have cable or keep up with the episodes since I got into it a bit late so I'm not exactly sure where I am. I think the last episode I was on was 53? I don't know how far behind I am but I'm trying to keep up so I don't miss anything.
New episodes return next week 9/10 at 5:30pm e/p
I think people talk about that they are deep and sad or whatever because they're surprised that it actually has those moments even if they are not usually the highlight. The only show like it that I think does have it's main focus on that sort of thing is Over the garden wall even though that too has lighthearted moments sprinkled about. It's not talked about that much because it wasn't ongoing though.I tried SU based on seeing the designs of Jasper and Peridot, and I thought I'd give it a try and not let its abhorrent fandom ruin it for me. Wow! Good to know. Thanks for sharing!I don't know, it just seems like more pretentious animated bullshit. But then again I'm a product of an era where slapstick and crude humor was kind of the norm in animation.
Oh wait...I guess that's today too. My bad, I just won't give it a chance because I'm too stubborn and the fanbase makes me cringe.
She did seem oddly corgil with Steven in Keeping It Together right before the zither Gems saw her.Wow! Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
Next episode comes out tomorrow, boys! I went the 'watching the show in sensibly-sized blocks over the course of a few days' route rather than binging it, but I certainly enjoyed it a great deal. I'm very glad that Steven mellowed out after the first 15 or so episodes because he was a really annoying little shit in the early episodes (stop pressuring Pearl and Amethyst to fuse to satisfy your macro fetish, you little git) but I like him now.
Something I've noticed about Peridot is the way Tumblr woobifies her and makes her either a sad little kitten or a total joke. Yeah, she's been ~~~~~crazy~~~~~ in the show recently, but there's actually a reason for that - pure peridot is very unstable in Earth's atmosphere, so she's literally going insane on Earth. Combined with the fact she's literally the gem Mengele with the whole gem shard fusion thing, I don't think she's a very funny character. Still one of my favourites, though.
Hmmm, this Eldritch looking monster must be a car accident victim.
I'm surprised Connie has to point out she's been doing magic stuff with Steven after a) the whole Alexandrite fiasco and b) everyone else in town knows that weird shit is linked to Steven and the Crystal Gems.I think if there's one thing we've learned about Dr. Maheswaran this week, it's that her observation skills are considerably lacking.
