I don't think number 2 is effective if said explicitly. Moving to a non-European-speaking country under a generic name can work wonders. If she changes her name legally to "Mary Smith", then moves to Thailand or something, she could make a good life for herself, provided she can resist building an online presence again that can be connected back to her. It's a lot harder to disappear in the US since you're followed by your social security number, credit reporting agencies, etc. Some autist somewhere will have the access to find her again if needed even if she changes her name. While I can't speak for anyone else, I try and judge people on an individual level. I've known a few trans people that were pretty cool and didn't make it the center of their personality, they just thought they were born as the wrong gender and started dressing like a dude/chick, which hey, no skin off my nose if that's their thing.
