Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

And people aren't even connecting the dots that "car that can detect fucking alcohol molecules in a car will shut itself off to prevent being used" and "car that detects any spoken, written or otherwise expressed viewpoint counter to allowable speech will shut itself off to prevent being used and isolate the wrongthinker"
It's gonna be fuckin hilarious though when they end up getting some of their own true believers splattered on a highway because the system fucked up and decided that the hand sanitizer had enough particles in common with alcohol and locks the car up while it's going 70 mph on a busy interstate.

Is it wrong for me to picture Biden in a hammock luxuriously eating prunes and sipping Metamucil?

In the 80s Snl used to portray Reagan as senile for the press and as soon as they leave he became very sinister and focused. I also imagine that.

Literally the only time we've successfully "nation built" was in Japan after WW2 but the Japs at least were willing to work with us and mostly abided by what we put in place and have remained pretty friendly with us ever since.
South Korea too. Really seems to only work on the Eurasian continent, excluding the ME.
It's down purely to historical circumstance. In broad strokes Japan westernized itself via the Meiji Restoration and Korea had the dubious honour of being brought into the modern world through Japanese colonialism. Tack on homogeneous high trust society and East Asian deference to authority and no shock liberal democracy stuck so well. Neoconservative types though don't like reading history or understanding cultural nuances (gets in the way of money and fame), so they thought the concept would translate over perfectly when anyone with a shred of knowledge of the Middle East and Central Asia could've told them otherwise.

I know that's part of how they operate, but shouldn't they know what sort of technology will be going in cars? It seems a little concerning that they're agreeing to mandate putting as-of-yet unknown technology in vehicles.
The thing is, it's not the first time. And won't be the first time this method failed either. The attempt to legally push Smart Guns back in the early Obama years was another case of "Try to mandate a nonexistent technology be put in for safety" and it failed.... basically every court test, and then got memory-holed -hard-. I remember reading about it back then from a few sites, but can't find jack and shit now.

Not to mention you could jailbreak a smart gun with a magnet.

So is this going to be my generations "Fall of Saigon"?
Yep - whether we get any iconic photos of US Embassy personnel scrambling to get onto a Blackhawk on the rooftop remains to be seen.
We sent our troops over, had them die, come back maimed in both body and mind.
Spent 200 Dollars per person in America just on the training.

And we got 30 days.

Fuck the entirety of Washington DC, fuck the Neo-cons, Fuck the Neo-libs.
Fuck it all, the next time we have to go back to clean out that rats nest instead of 20 years of nation building..we should just bomb the goat fucking pedophiles into the fucking dirt.
My earlier proposition of going full Tarkin Doctrine on the Pashtun tribe seems more and more pragmatic.

It's strange that the taliban have taken over these places with zero resistance, not even from local fighters. Very strange.

And those weapons? Left on purpose. Any, and I mean any tech, like those drones is destroyed rather than being left behind.
It's not strange, it's actual democracy in action. The Afghan people voted they don't want the US there in any way, shape, or form.

So, it's just an "I.O.U. one Booze-Sniffer 5000" provision?

And of course, anyone who objects to this new monitoring technology will be maligned as defending drunk driving, and being "anti-public safety". The emotional blackmail is airtight.
Breathalyzer systems in cars are expensive, prone to failure and require specialized equipment to service. This would be an absolute nightmare and run small garages out of business while somehow managing to make service at a dealership worse. I'm sure it will have jubilant support. After all, it is just another way to curtail your ability to move and enhance the state's ability to monitor you.

"Oh, your Smart Start device locked you out? Well we'll just need you to go down to your local service technician and have them unlock it for you when they have time. Looks like you're not going to work today!"

They can bite my 1965 beetle driving ass. No emissions, no computer, and still 35 mpg.
"Oh is that a car from before the year 1985? You're going to have to turn that in along with any firearms and banned literature you may have. We'll have a team meet you at your house in the morning to help you take care of that. Looks like you're not going to work tomorrow!"

"Tell them to wear level 4 plates."

Its to normalize software installed in every car monitoring the driver. Eventually itll be a built in Alexa type device listening.

This was in her jurisdicition as each SCOTUS member gets a portion of the country to be quick relegator, she couldn't/wouldn't even do this. I don't really blame Trump, I just see the snakes needing to no longer hide.
My woman/Cath hate continues to be vindicated everyday. I'm getting smug about it.
