The thing is, everything you've been lead to believe about the war was a lie. The US went into Afghanistan because of Al Queda and then it just became a way for military contractors to get rich. Pretending it was a fight for the country. It wasn't. The US could use its power to push the Taliban out of Government. Create a new Government, but that Government had little to no power. It didn't really represent or run the country outside of a few cities. For most of the country, it was just life going on as usual. Where they knew little or cared not.
The Taliban would fight back, but lost every time. So they just laid low. Every now and then pushing the occupiers, but getting pushed back. No meaningful change was done to the country to push it from what it was, everything tried failed. Yet they lied to you and the world about it. Pretending it was a war they were winning. Pretended they were training a capable army. Which was mainly just Afghan's fighting for a paycheck, not because they believed in the mission of the new government, but it's a poor country and it's a job. Pretending they were succeeding at nation-building and changing the culture. Outside of those few cities, they were not.
The Taliban didn't win a war to drive the US out. The US just retreated. So the Taliban just stop laying low. No nation-building was ever done. Nothing is lost because nothing was ever real. The scene in Kabul isn't the Talban winning, it's the US and their allies just giving up. Going home. This is an embarrassing scene. It's humiliating but it's just the truth of the lie coming to the surface. Nothing meaningful ever was achieved except funnelling money to the Industrial Millitary complex.
The situation Trump and now Biden have had is ending this farce. Ending this con. I respect little about either of them, but I respect them for getting out and putting an end to this. It absolutely sucks for those people in those cities where their lives will now descend into hell but for most of the country, they won't practically notice a difference. They'll just be safer at funerals and weddings for fear of drone strikes.
The Romans occupied the Middle East for 1000 years, and they left and it was like they were never there. Besides some of the cool stuff they build. No difference here.
