big strech and holy shit, Robert just can't grow out of the school paper mentality where he need to over word even the simplest explanations, this man just can't get over the need of "sounding smart".

But I guess "sounding smart" is the only thing Robert has going for him because this was a bunch of bullshit.

The gist of this diatribe is that Disney ain't sucking up China's balls and the Shang-Chi shit is about China posteuring for their public to show that they are harsh against Hollywood and the US, and Hollywood uses China as a excuse to not give into all the more radical changes in terms of diverse casting and progressive themes.

Also, the marketing people at Disney have andromeda brains are not marketing their movies to China, but to the future Asian Disapora that will happen and so getting ahead of the game.

All this bullshit to save face for the fucking Shang-Chi movie, because, you see, the movies isn't being rejected by China, China is just flexing on the US, and it doesn't matter, because the movie is about the Asian Diaspora that is to come (where did he get that?), same with Mulan.

And this isn't the first time Robert uses this sort of logic to illustrate some sort of 4D chess in part of Disney's marketing, getting ahead of the curve with progressive character and stories so they will cater to a market that will come to be, like the whole push for Captain Marvel and Kamala Kahn and the whole "All new" Marvel characters, that they were creating characters to be consumed in the form of movies and stream series for a new generation, that is why their failures in the comics was irrelevant.

Look, maybe the kamala Kahn series and movies is a smash hit, same with all these new Marvel movies with the diverse casting and shit, I don't have a crystal ball and it seems like it is very possible, but this why Robert is so adamant in playing advocate to this bullshit to the point he needs to invent some geo politics interpretations that are far fetched bullshit.

Look, I get that what Robert loves the most is to act as if he is the smartest guy in the room, but all this so he can play cheerleader for Disney?

That, or they think they can augment themselves into the idealized version of themselves that everyone will respect. Even though many of them could do that now with a well-balanced diet, daily exercise, and getting off Twitter, at least Bob's case.
You know, that’s my biggest gripe with people like Bob.

They want to be strong, and like the characters in their favorite stories or their favorite actors/celebrities but they’re not willing to earn it.

Why are they so afraid to earn things? You can’t achieve greatness by taking the easy way out. You gotta work for the things you want.

That’s how the world works.

Mega Man did have an animated series that did have an associated toy series, Robert. Mega Man 3/4 was too late to be a "global franchise in the 80s" considering 3 came out in 1990. 3 is the best selling of the original NES Mega Man games and it sold a whopping one million copies. Nowhere close to TMNT-level gigantic.

Mega Man's an interesting case study of how to fuck up a franchise's growth.

Mega Man 1 was widely ignored on it's release (and IIRC was even discontinued when MM2 came out) and Mega Man 2 was one of those word of mouth overnight success stories where it's hard to pinpoint WHEN it became a massive big titted hit.

Mega Man 2-3 was the franchise's peak and even with the SEVERE liberties taken with it (most notably recoloring Mega Man and his speech pattern), the height of his cross media popularity was Captain N.

Mega Man 4-6 sadly got buried by the fact that they came out at the same time that the NES was being phased out for the SNES. Hell, Capcom wasn't even going to release Mega Man 6 to the US and Nintendo had to cut a deal with them to release it themselves since 4-5 still sold well and that Capcom was being coy as fuck over when the franchise would get it's first SNES game.

Mega Man X was a franchise reboot and briefly renewed interest in Mega Man, leading to the cartoon being launched. Sadly, rather than adapt Mega Man X, they decided to make the cartoon all about classic Mega Man and completely fucked up that game by not realizing that people don't care or give a fuck about the Mega Man 1 robot masters but instead, only care about the Mega Man 2 robot masters; Metal Man in particular due to how powerful his weapon was..

They forced the 90s cartoon to use the MM1 Robot Masters as the primary villains and Cutsman and Gutsman in particular, with them as sort of dumb and dumber flunkies who constantly fucked up. They also forced a god-awful MMX episode that was crappy and licensed that infamous Brazilian comic that the less said the better.

Also the Mega Man toy lines that have come over the years have been huge dumpster fires of fail and AIDS. You rarely if EVER get a Robot Master and if you do, it's almost exclusively from MM 1. Instead you get versions of Mega Man, Mega Man X, and the cavalcade of fail and AIDS of non-boss villains such as Bass, Treble, Sigma, etc and Zero.

It's a horribly mismanaged mass media franchise in terms of promotion and merchandise, even during it's prime.

Woah there bro... hard work? Effort? Investing time into improving myself? Perseverance and dedication? That's what you need to fix yourself and be successful? But where will I find time to yell about Republicans and stuff my face with an "average amount of 5 big macs" and play with electronic time wasters and watch my cape shit 24/7/365?

Yeah, that's gay I'm going to just bitch about superiah fuechah not being here and never getting here until about another thousand years after I've succumbed to my own self-inflicted diabetes.

(Bob's entire brain and life outlook in a nutshell)

Even dumber for Bob: Mega Man also already had a handful of anime adaptations as well. And were dubbed into English (NT Warrior even aired on Kids WB and Cartoon Network):

This dumbass literally can not look up anything past his own 80s nostalgic worldview and just uses it to talk out of his ass.

Yeah, Mega Man is more of an in retrospect thing in how big he was. Like, you know how people think 70s music was all disco? Or even like how they think any past music was hit after hit because they were born in 94 and don't realize what survived and got remembered was all the good stuff. Retro gaming had kind of a weird version of that.

None of it more warping as Mega Man. See Mega Man is thought of as this huge franchise that was everywhere because in gaming culture he is everywhere. Sprite based webcomics to start with not only often use the Mega Man style of recolors, quite frequently. But the "original" was a Mega Man recolor. This meant that a lot of fan animations, then also were based around Mega Man. Like the stuff on Newgrounds. The really big one though, is how much of early Lets Play, revolved around Mega Man. Retsupurae and their sister group often noted how frequently Mega Man were LPed. ChipCheezum I think has the line, "every LPer has either I wanna be the Guy or Mario 2, as well as their favorite Mega Man."

Ultimately, what I am trying to say is Mega Man got "lucky". Nothing in particular made it such an important part of gaming culture beyond sheer happenstance. But it did. And when you just look at the numbers, its weird. Like its nowhere near Capcoms biggest franchise. Although, for a long time, it was their most accessible. As in, they have always put out collections and ports of the game. And unlike a great deal of other Capcom stuff, there is very little Mega Man the west didnt get. In fact. There is very little Mega Man, Europe didnt get.

However, Bob is an idiot. Because, he lived in the time. I wasn't even born by the time most of Mega Man was out. Yet, I saw the popularity of Mega Man happen. And as a resident of the internet, so did he. You think he would have remembered.

I am pretty sure I have said this before but Bob is a master of making his point completely obscure by being exceedingly verbose and hitting up the thesaurus.

"There is no set of guidelines to getting a movie approved in China, the censorship board decides case by case." and then go in to specific examples, Bob. I shouldn't have to read 5 tweets to understand your basic one sentence thesis.

Also you used "quixotic" wrong, you fat fuck. You meant "esoteric" or "obscure." "Quixotic" means overly idealistic.

Remember, this is a man who doesn't know what a "cold opening" is.
I think Bob meant "cold open" in the way the News uses it. " Thousands dead in county fair accident" and then going into details about how a Ferris Wheel span out of control.

But the News is still telling a narrative, a story about something that actually happened. Bob is doing a video essay, so he should be saying "How's that for a thesis" but Bob did not get really good grades in school.

Considering Bob's a media consoomer, he definitely meant to use a "cold open" as to what that phrase should mean (a beginning that contains shit happening before the opening credits or when a story actually starts), but Bob--being Bob--thinks it means "starting on a depressing note", and just wanted to use the phrase "cold open" as a means to look smart and cultured.

It's been said many a time, but for a "pop-culture" critic, Bob is absolutely clueless about some of the most basic pop-culture facts.

Why does Bob insist that the things he likes have to be the most popular thing in the world? Why is he so goddamn insecure?
"If my nerdy niche shit is popular with the normals that will mean I can ascend to their social circle as an honorary culturally-enriched chad and girls will touch my dick".

That's it. He just wants to be a normalfag but doesn't want to eschew the shit most well-adjusted people don't fixate over because they have lives, careers, real-life friends, and even families to worry about. So he takes the path of least resistance instead and just begs for all of his favorite cartoons, comics, and toys to be held in the same regard as a sports-team or mainstream blockbuster film.
