To clarify some points in the Lt Col's recent video:
1. He said he had a $2mil pension fund he was throwing away. This is 100% accurate. An O-5 would be expected to receive roughly $56,000 per year for the rest of their life upon retirement. $2mil would equal out to about 35 years down the road. He's not just spouting numbers and seems very coherent.
2. He is resigning commission 3 years before retirement. This is also true on several points. After your initial obligation you can resign commission whenever you feel. Seen it up and down the officer ranks, but most stay in a while to pad out a CV. You don't get a pension unless you put in at least 20 years. LTC here is aware of future consequences.
3. He said he was rejecting VA benefits. Regardless of retirement or resignation, anyone who gets out under honorable conditions is granted health and financial benefits from the VA. Again he is aware of future consequences.
4. LTC states that he is ready to burn the institution down should he have to. Expect a LOT of top brass suddenly embroiled in sex scandals in the coming months.
He's going to have a hard time leading the resistance, getting adjudicated as mentally defective by the VA. Especially if he's already got any personally-owned firearms.

He's losing a chance to get arguably the best health insurance around, TRICARE, for himself and his family for a pittance ($50.50/month for a family of any size, premium increases limited by law to the same percentage of the annual cost-of-living allowance). Low copays, accepted all over. He's losing access to military commissaries and exchanges, too.
Have you been to any commissary lately? They did away with discounts a while ago. You're better off going to Albertsons or Whole Foods at this point.
And Tricare is accepted everywhere...that you get approval for first. Big hospitals sure, but an urgent care facility if you're suddenly ill will need to get approval beforehand, and you're only authorized a finite number of trips per year.
He needs to use his brains a little and apply for VA disability. Disability compensation is tax-free. After 17 years in the infantry one will most likely have compensatory conditions.

I go to the commissary every week. Where I live the commissary is much cheaper than any store except Wal-Mart. Only shop downtown for the few things I cannot buy at the commissary.
Used Tricare for over twenty years. Found authorizations came quickly and easily, especially when it was decided I needed open-heart surgery some years back. That authorization, which covered everything, came in a few hours. Paid a grand total of $44 for the surgery. My wife still uses Tricare, had knee replacement six years ago, minimal out-of-pocket, including physical therapy at home. We rarely use/used acute care, normally can see primary care manager on a timely basis.

this is what 20 years of military bureaucracy gets you. promoting people based on "volunteer" work instead of their ability to kick ass at their jobs and be a leader. that and the west's habit of barely training anyone for their job has been sinking into the military, so you have some jobs with "leaders" who poorly train them along with some other schools being jettisoned entirely for no real reason, and then you get into a situation like this where you have a bunch of people in charge of killing potential enemies who have no idea what the fuck they're doing. i swear to god, the only people actually know what they're doing in the military are infantry and special forces, everyone else is just barely floating along
