When asked to stop, mods responded saying just to "ignore" a stickied post at the top of every popular Reddit.

It was later discovered that this effective spamming was coordinated by Reddit mods in a Discord specifically for Reddit mods.

A Reddit admin stepped in and deleted the mods' hysteria, spurring the mods to call the admins "dictators" and "tyrants" because they won't let them censor and ban people who disagree with them on their spam messages.

Bless the chap leaking the discord conversation. I'm not familiar with all of the powermods on reddit, but here's a breakdown synopsis of events. Some account called "Sebtacular" started this whole thing. These mods have been trying for weeks to compel reddit to remove Covid misinformation, but the leaks themselves show that this is very political. They admit it a number of times. Interestingly, they wanted a moderator called "Blank Cheque" involved, but he refused. I knew I'd recognized the name. He's the moderator who organized the protest against Aimee Challenor. That moderator did not want to be involved in this protest. Across reddit many are trying to compare this protest to the Challenor protest despite the fact that they are markedly different. A large powermod that is involved heavily in this protest is Merari.

Merari laughably made a comment in the discord saying that the mods were going to need to try to get all attention off of them, individually, and instead put the attention on the reddit admins. Merari is apparently as big a powermod as blank cheque is. Merari, at several points in these discord leaks, makes her deep hatred of the Challenor protest known. Merari at one point melted down and called it simply a transphobic witch hunt that hurt innocent people. I imagine that blank cheque and Merari are the best of pals. The group involved in the protest elected a leader. Apparently if you need a chap to agree to put his head down and sprint directly into a brick wall without a helmet on this Natethegreat is your man. He has been making posts for weeks on reddit and even in admin subreddits demanding that they remove Covid misinformation and I can't find the post on drama.net now, but in the powermod discord leaks, after they elected him their leader he needed to ask people to give him some authoritative links about how these vaccines are safe and these masks are working. So he's been speaking as an expert on Covid misinformation for weeks and he couldn't even be arsed to have any reliable information around a week ago and had to ask other people to give it to him so that he could make his post on vaxxhappened.

Of course, the discord conversations got leaked so Merari's plan of keeping out of the spotlight and getting the attention off the mods and onto the admins was shot all to hell. This sebtacular person, because powermods tend to be attention whores, went onto some subreddit and said, "I'm the person who started this whole protest, ask me questions here." Even within these powermod discord chats they can't define what is misinformation and what isn't and have had at least one fight about whether or not Ivermectin can really help in the treatment of Covid.

In the course of explaining what to do, I referenced a specific part, a gender bender, so that the necessary cable would work with the person's USB port.

It's legitimately what the part is called. Went to sleep. Next morning found out I was Perma banned from the subreddit and I had about 30 messages from the mod accusing me of hate speech, harassment, and stalking.

I guess the subreddit community, and even some of the other mods, made fun of the top mod for overreacting to a proper engineering term and over the course of the night, my account was banned and unbanned repeatedly. Eventually I guess that top mod won.

The whole subreddit got nuked the next day. Then I noticed I was banned from like every single subreddit on the main page or whatever. So I left.

If you see someone follow a reddit link and it doesn't have that bright red "YOU ARE SUSPENDED" banner on the top, they're probably boring.

Not Reddit related but that reminds me of the woman getting butt hurt over two dudes making a joke about "dongles" in 2013.

What sucks is the way Reddit sucks the life out of independent forums. Even stuff like Minecraft and Terraria, the old forums are either shuttered or ghost towns.

I miss the golden age of forums, I miss the Adult Swim forums and the imdb message boards.

There was a Silent Hill fan forum that was a pretty good community I was a part of, last time I checked it was a ghost town (understandable though since the series itself has been dormant for almost a decade)

Having to register for a specific forum for something was enough of a filter to weed out a lot of jackasses as opposed to an all purpose Reddit account.
