This gets better by the way. People are saying Null has no legal recourse here, but he does. There is no death certificate. As far as the law is concerned Byuu is still alive. Even if the name we assume is his power word turns out to be wrong he can still be sued as a John Doe. And there already is a ready made cause of action. Extortion. Not only is this a civil cause of action, it's a criminal one in the US as well and carries a 2 year prison sentence.

18 USC chapter 42 section 875 makes it illegal to transmit any communication interstate or internationally that threatens to harm the reputation of a business or person in exchange for compliance of a demand. The fact that the threat was actually carried out pretty much closes the deal, as dear leader suffered measurable damage when Dreamhost canceled his contract.

He does not need to wrangle with arguing the finer points of defamation and conspiracy when he already has Byuu dead to rights on extortion. And once a federal lawsuit is filed, even against Byuu in his John Doe persona, there are ways to Pierce the anonymity shield via Subpoena. Everything from the service providers that hosted Byuus shit to Hector Martin who claims he is a friend.

And that would put Hector in a pickle. If a judge orders him to reveal who Byuu is and Where he is, he would have to either A. Give up the goods or B. Admit he made the whole thing up and admit to defamation under oath. Would be a spicy predicament.
