Ralph doesn't learn from his mistakes, to the point where he flat out refuses to countenance even considering altering his behaviour unless it's on threat of incarceration.
I know the thread title says "battle of custody" but that battle doesn't exist, and probably won't ever exist because Ralph is not interested in becoming a father. This one is over restraining order filed by Vickers.

Why would the plaintiff care? Their TRO remains in effect as long as he continues to blow it off. I'm not sure what California does if they get sick of this, though. Maybe they just eventually give him one last chance and then turn it into an injunction and start moving forward with the case with or without him, defaulting him and making it a permanent injunction if he blows it off.
Gunt hasn't lifted a finger to argue about custody. This is Vickers's harassment suit, and Ralph is the defendant, as he generally is in court.
The only reason I can see for the continuances is because Ralph's lawyer is stalling to try to figure out a way to win this. He's got nothing. I'm glad Ralph won't just take the L and continues to waste his money.
My guess is Gunt thinks he's "winning" and trolling Vickers by making him show up to court only to have the case continued, assuming Vickers is even present and it's not just his lawyer there. This is typical Gunt logic though - a continuance means the TRO is still in place, which is what Vickers wants anyway.

imagine how much more youd be able to fuck with vickers if you actually contested it in an intelligent and dedicated manner including showing up gunt, you realize even if you get a few more continuances itll still be in mr vicker's lower estimates for court battles AND you look that much shittier for future stuff

That's true, but it cuts both ways. You could also get a real hardcase that makes stupidly harsh decisions. It honestly all comes down to the personality of the judge.
