At least 18 are dead after a series of explosions and shootings. There have been at least 4 separate, but coordinated incidents.

CNN also just announced that there are also 60 hostages being held in a theater.

Update: More than 128 dead. We got a new rating. Basically, everything went fucky.

It's too bad the retaliation won't be laser focused directly on putting ISIS into history's rubbish bin. A lot of innocents will suffer for this as well.

The real sticking point will be if this combines with the airliner attack a few weeks back. Both NATO and Russian troops in Syria could be a bit of an issue. Now I'm not the type of alarmist to go "this is going to kick off a general European war" because politicans aren't quite that retarded (And we've perfected this song and dance during the cold war), but the possibility for general raised tensions is an issue. A Syrian conflict could be what definitely slides us firmly into a second cold war, which we've been risking for quite awhile now.

Do you think this will help Marine Le Pen's chances in winning the next election? I feel like the more things like this happens, the more people start to lean to the right.
For sure, Front Nationale's numbers are going way up next election. They did a good job cleaning up their public image in recent years by toning down the anti-semitism (Marine even disavowed her own father's holocaust revisionism/denial) and focus on an anti-immigrant platform.

I think people may so leaning to the left with #Nothingtodowithislam. There will be bashlash, but there will also be a great preemptive backlash to the backlash. They believe that the only reason Islamic terrorism exist is because of OPPRESSION of muslims. If France and the EU has harsher crackdowns of political opponents of Islam and immigration, then the organizations that planned this will consider these attacks as a victory.

Le Pen already has a solid chance because her party has managed to make itself look like a viable alternative to the two big mainstream ones. The party in power satisfies no one, Sarkozy's right suffers both from uneending internal conflicts and various corruption scandals. Le Pen's party is justs full of clowns and crooks as the other two, plus some extremists, but they've got great PR.

This is really going to help her party. She's already harping on about immigrants 24/7/365, she's going to exploit the hell out of this.

Immigration and islamist terrorists are two different issues even if they're linked.
The terrorists who've been caught in France these past decades aren't always fresh immigrants- they're, by and large, French citizens who're children or even grandchildren of families who immigrated long ago. Most of them were born and raised in France. there's even some converts.

So immigration does play a role, but saying this is strictly an immigration issue that can be tackled by restricting immigration is myopic. It's more of an issue of integration.
France has an assimilationist system, which has shown its limits, but the multicultural system has failed as well, if Germany and the UK are any indication. Le Pen and most of the French right play on people's fears about this.

UK guy here. Our system hasn't so much failed as been badly policed over the past couple of decades. The issue is simply that we failed to instill the values of the west into the minds of the migrants that came over almost fifty years ago. There was a poll where 4/10 muslims wanted a form of Sharia Law in the UK, which is alarming to say the least. Granted, the poll sample is small, but when so many British born Muslims travel to fight for IS one must question whether or not less effort should have been spent on arguing over superficial race bullshit and focusing more on teaching kids 'Yes, you can pray five times a day, give charity and visit Mecca, but don't kill people who don't do the same!'

Encouraging the marginalisation of Muslims in Western countries is definitely part of ISIS' strategy.

The grayzone is critically endangered, rather on the brink of extinction. Its endangerment began with the blessed operations of September 11th, as these operations manifested two camps before the world for mankind to choose between, a camp of Islam – without the body of Khilāfah to represent it at the time – and a camp of kufr – the crusader coalition.

...

The presence of the Khilāfah also magnifies the political, social, economic, and emotional impact of any operation carried out by the mujāhidīn against the enraged crusaders. This magnified impact compels the crusaders to actively destroy the grayzone themselves, the zone in which many of the hypocrites and deviant innovators living in the West are hiding.

...

The Muslims in the West will quickly find themselves between one of two choices, they either apostatize and adopt the kufrī religion propagated by Bush, Obama, Blair, Cameron, Sarkozy, and Hollande in the name of Islam so as to live amongst the kuffār without hardship, or they perform hijrah to the Islamic State and thereby escape persecution from the crusader governments and citizens.

I don't even know what that tweet is trying to say anymore, just one buzzword after another.

Actually reading the article instead of trying to parse it from its headline reveals it's about the fact that the right likes to slap the word "terrorist" on everything, including protest groups that just get out of hand regularly like Black Lives, when actual terrorism like this attack exists. Which I'll conceede is a fair point. It's still incredibly autistic SJW ramblings, but not quite as retarded as the headline seems.

Never fear, Social Justice is here to remind you who the real victims are.

It's hard to imagine less apt timing.

They should come here to Europe and state it is a #mediadistraction .

Fucking SJ pieces of shit.

I seem to notice a pattern about tragedies. Existing crowds who deem themselves victims tend to downplay all other ones that come into the spotlight. I've seen people downplay Nanking claiming "the Jews had it worse," and now this. It's almost like the mainstream victims are in a constant pissing contest on appearing to be the most victimized, the sympathies of other lesser known tragedies' victims be damned.

"I mean, it's terrible that literally dozens of people were slaughtered for no reason but let's not forget that racism in the United States is literally the most important thing in the entire world right now. But that really sucks, Paris. Also, people are just going to use this to ignore racism in the US, which again is what we should all be focusing on right now instead of the victims in Paris."

Oh, go fuck yourself, OP.
