Bob certainly tried to figure something out for Chris. Problem was he was a little old and out of touch. He encouraged Chris to be mainstreamed so hard cuz I assume he thought that would give Chris the best employment opportunities... regardless of the final outcome. He tried to get a foot in the door to employment history with a job at wendy's... which ended up poorly... He tried ensure Chris learned an employable skill, regardless if it took him 3x as long to get the degree in it, and he would soon abandon any attempt at finding a job in that field. Bob actually tried pretty hard to help Chris succeed as an adult, he was just impotent and misguided at it.I think the only thing Bob could be criticized for is how he dealt with the trolling, and that was something that he shouldn't be expected to be able to handle in his old age.
That and the exceptional scheme where they took Chris to Richmond, that had to have been a strain, I'll bet you that Barb's hoarding got worse during that time.
Barb's influence on the other hand is a little more pernicious. She's fine with him being a slob who lives in squalor... because well.... She's fine with him being a TV addict who wishes to coast through life.... again cuz..... She does nothing to prevent his materialistic and non-responsible spending habits, well you see where this is going...
