2020 Oscars Discussion - complain about how Uncut Gems nor the Lighthouse weren't nominated here

Doubt it, in 2017 Kubo and the Two Strings was up for both categories
Well Kubo technically was a live action animated film (as it used physical models) with post production animation elements added. Lion King people considers an animated film outright despite Disney claiming it isn't.

#OscarsSoWhite?

Literally no black movies or actors. Was there no "black people rising to the top encountering racism along the way" this year? Lol. That's funny. Utterly based and nigpilled.

The only film of that sort I wish were up there is Dolemite is My Name. It's a black culture film that isn't preachy and up its own ass, and is genuinely entertaining by virtue of being a good comedy and both Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes knocking it out of the park. There are a couple of small stabs at Whitey, but it's not some a-logging tirade and it's reasonably self-aware.

I could talk all night about how that movie practically made me fall in love with Pattinson because his performance is so so far ahead of his acting in Twilight. Probably my favorite performances of the year. Yes, more than Joker even though that movie kinda deserves to win everything.

And my mom and sisters laughed when I called him a great actor. Boo.

I saw him in Netflix's The King recently, and his performance was stellar. I didn't even realise it was him in his first scene.

Hopefully Batman won’t keep him from doing more parts like this.

Hopefully he'll play a good Batman. I'm not worried about his Bruce Wayne, but I hope his Batman is well executed.

The woke crowd are reeeing over White people being nominated for awards in an industry that was originally pioneered by White people. So expect to see #OscarsSoWhite trending on twatter again.

I am surprised that there were no nominations for Just Mercy considering that had Oscar bait written all over it.

So many movies released in 2019 and I can see maybe 20 in the nominations.
The Academy should be forced to watch more damn movies.

My sure bets are;
- Phoenix for best actor (but Joker won't get anything else)
- Johannson for best actress (they'll give her one and then never again)
- Pitt for best supporting actor (because every other nominee already won in the past)
- Johnson for best original screenplay (no real reason but he'll win)
- Parasite for best foreign film (because it's nominated for best picture and the other movies aren't)
- Star Wars for best visual effects (because it looks great, it's dumb but it looks great)

What movie was released that appealed to women or people of color in this year other than ROS, and I'm being very generous when I put that movie in that category. There was nothing like Black Panther this year that really warrant the attention of the oscar imo.

Captain Marvel be like "Am I a joke to you?".

That was like Progressive Nirvana for those types.

My favorite part of this are the Oscar's So White rants. One person ranted about how Jennifer Lopez (LMAO) got snubbed for an Oscar for her Hustlers role.

Dykesinfilm is displeased.
(It's not like she didn't win one before.)

I'd like to see Renee Zellweger win for Judy since I thought she was phenomenal in that role, but I don't think she'll get it.

It's white privilege to give a better performance than a black person.

Also lmao at bitching about privilege in the OSCARS. It's Hollywood, they're all privileged.

She’s been the frontrunner since the fall.

and I don't know what VFX are in 1917 to really make an informed opinion on it.

1917 had some of my favorite VFX in years because it was all about stuff you didn't see: where the cuts in the "one long shot" were, and the stuff I'm sure they digitally removed from the frame. There are one or two places where they probably used CGI (the planes, and there are a few rats that are definitely digital), but overall it was really restrained, and most of the effects looked at least partially practical.

Ah, good. I figured since she was away for a while that she may not have a chance. I know she won the Golden Globe.

I seem to remember last year there were tons of wins for black people in Hollywood. Not just that- they got as much time as they wanted to make their speeches without getting the "wrap it up" music while everyone else got the music during their speeches.

I'm just glad that Queen And Slim didn't get nominated. When I saw the trailer for that film it seemed like such Oscar bait.

Overall, I think that the Best Picture nominees are a pretty solid crop of picks for this year. The Irishman is my favorite out of them, and my favorite movie of the year overall, so I’d most like to see that win, but I’d love for Joker to win as well for maximum saltage (in fact, I’d love it if Joker won as many Oscars as possible besides Best Actor and Score (which it has the best shot at IMO) for that reason alone).

I’d be happy with Pitt, Pesci, or Pacino winning Best Supporting Actor.

Parasite is a lock for Best Foreign Film IMO, and I’m glad it got a Best Picture nomination and Bong Joon-Ho got nominated for Best Director.

As for Best Original Screenplay, I’m a huge Tarantino stan so I’m rooting for him to win that award, but part of me also wants Rian Johnson to win for Knives Out just for the spergouts from salty as fuck Star Wars fans.

Come to think of it, I hope that this year’s ceremony generates as much as salt as humanly possible, as I ultimately care more about that than who wins what award at this point.
