2020 Oscars Discussion - complain about how Uncut Gems nor the Lighthouse weren't nominated here

Why do people still care about the Oscars? I stopped caring the year that Forrest Gump won Best Picture over both Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption. I should have not bothered to care at all after I heard about how Ordinary People won Best Picture over Raging Bull.

Ordinary People is a really good movie, though ... Not better than Raging Bull, mind you, but at least it's a good movie IMO.

1994 was an amazing year for movies. Pulp Fiction, Shawshank, and Forrest Gump all in the same year. Damn! Forrest Gump is my least favorite of the three, but all three movies are really good. It really makes you think about how collectively terrible movies are today.

I think that the biggest snub in Oscars history has got to be Dances With Wolves winning Best Picture over goddamn Goodfellas.

Lmaooooo Star Wars gets nominated only for sound design, visual effects, and the score. :story: I'm sad Alita: Battle Angel, Godzilla, and Detective Pikachu didn't get nominated for visual effects (fuck off, Lion King), though, but eh, I wasn't really caring much about the Oscars this year.

Toy Story 4 is most likely going to win Best Animated Feature because Disney, but I'd rather have any of the others win over it, even though the only movie I saw on that nominated list was HTTYD3 and that was still one of the better films I saw last year. 2019 honestly was kind of weak with gems here and there.

How To Train Your Dragon 3's ending surprised me so much ... It made me cry! I felt absolutely nothing when I saw Toy Story 4. It's just not a good movie ...

I know people are happy that Frozen II got "snubbed," but honestly ... Give me that movie over Toy Story 4 anyday.

Klaus is probably my favorite animated movie that I saw this year, though. I think the movie is absolutely delightful, and the animation is truly something to behold. It's a gorgeous film with a really clever story. Probably the best Christmas movie I've seen in years, honestly.

I'm glad other peeps are mentioning Klaus. I'm in that small boat that thinks Loving Vincent should've won over Coco in 2017 just because it's a truly uniquely-animated movie. Klaus is stunning and I really respect the love and effort the director and animators put towards animating it the way they did, hybridizing 2D and 3D like that.

Also for animated shorts, I've only seen Kitbull but it was adorable. I have no further input but it was pwecious.

Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan and Crash over Brokeback Mountain tho

I wish the actors from Parasite got nominations but I'm just really happy for Bong and his translator Sharon.

Where are the nominations for Awkwafina, Alfre Woodard, and Willem Dafoe?

I still think that Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas was the biggest snub, haha. I think the snubs you mentioned are definitely noteworthy, though.

I don't know why Star Wars still gets nominated. Their new work is so overrated and they need to stop with that franchise.

I thought that the all-time hindsight Best Picture winner upset is generally thought to be How Green Was My Valley over Citizen Kane?

Well, in my opinion, the bigger crime is Goodfellas getting snubbed for a piece of garbage, boring, Oscar-baity movie.

I adore How Green Was My Valley. At least Citizen Kane got "snubbed" by a movie that's good, haha.

To the people wondering, Adam Sandler is going through the same thing Eddie Murphy went through.

- good actor who stars in a few good films in his career
- both funny and charismatic
- had both of their careers made fun of because they starred in more bad movies than good

“Uncut Gems” was OK, but I wouldn’t count it as Best Actor/Best Picture worthy since there was better options.

Also, this is coming from a person who doesn’t really care for Hollywood.

To be honest, I've never seen How Green Was My Valley while Citizen Kane is a movie I appreciate from a technical innovation standpoint but it's nowhere close to being my favourite classic movie.

I've only seen Dances with Wolves once and had trouble staying awake.
