Should've known better to use the boiling frog tactic smh. This is not how you establish a dictatorship, unless your populace is already cucked to begin with.

Apparently when people protested the ban, the government gunned down the protesters. At that point the gloves came off.
 
The social media ban was introduced because citizens were using it to document government corruption - in particular, nepotism involving the children of senior politicians.

Of course, trying to suppress the information completely Streisanded it, which led to yesterday's protests, which have escalated today because of the government's response (sending the military out with live ammunition).

From looking at the /r/nepal subreddit, it seems like what is transpiring is mobs of people burning down government buildings, attacking people in the streets, stealing firearms from police offices, breaking people out of prisons, etc. There are a lot of claims and worries that anarchist and Maoist groups in Nepal are taking advantage of the chaos to use violence for their political ends, sorta hijacking the generally directionless movement.

While people here just see videos of corrupt politicians getting kicked in the streets, this seems like a volatile situation where there's a total breakdown of civil order, an inability of the police or military to do anything, mobs of subcontinentals engaging in wanton violence, and actual communists taking advantage of the situation and the mentality of mobs of young people. I don't foresee this ending well.

Hopefully this somehow leads to less persecution against Christians there. I know some who have had their houses burned down for following Christ. Seems like a Nepal tradition to chimp out and just burn people's shit down.
 
The population realizing they have nothing to lose is when the powder keg explodes. Gunning down protesters tends to do that.

Wasn't that shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine? Russia still has very strong ties to Kazakhstan, and they were probably full of hubris that they were back to being a global influence.

Yep, in January, a month before the invasion. But I'm asking if China will try and throw their weight around here, since the recently-resigned PM was in bed with them and even attended the recent military parade.
