3-D Print General - Feeding Printers Filament

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I wonder how it works. Do they use AI to detect gun shaped prints or do they take known gun files and add them to a block list?

If it's the latter, you can use CAD software to tweak the file a little (IE: imprinting "Lol Gun't" into the plastic) to change the hash of the file. Whoever came up with this should fall down a set of stairs and land on a pile of Legos.
Doesn't matter if you tweak the file if its the latter, the phone in means they keep a file of everything you print. The lifeblood of a print shop is its STL files, you never want a 3d party having control and copies of them.

Thinking of getting back into resin printing. The tech moved surprisingly fast since I left in 2022. The only concern I have is that I have nothing to print other than work stuff so it's not exactly worth it.

Kind of late to the party here but is it still worth buying a bambu? It looks like they walked back a lot of the gay shit they started and I really want multimaterial printing.

Personally, I am leaning to Bambu. I have longposts about it. Seems to have withstood the test of time.
I won't buy Prusa b/c of the price, delay, and shipping headaches. Plus it's Reddit's printer of choice.
I won't buy (another) Creality, b/c I have a full time job. If they want me to reengineer their products, they need to pay me.

Meh, Bambu will at some point just force the gay shit and call it a day.

If you're okay with buying the Apple of consumer 3D printers that's cool. Just know ahead of time.

True.
However, you can use Bambu entirely offline. And 3rd parties (BTT) as well as user groups are chipping away at that 'Walled Garden'.
But, I do believe their biz model is wrong. I was a member of the RepRap program from the 2000s. Tweaking open source info into a proprietary product is wrong and rips off the collective genius of individuals and the community.

But no company is exempt from that temptation. Even Prusa has been hiding some hardware/software behind copyright lately.
You can't run a successful open source business in a market that allows copyrights and proprietary tech.

And quite frankly, I want to PRINT, not fuck with hardware for HOURS only to get a failed print 8 hours later.

If they though that bullshit was a good idea in the first place they may eventually try adding it back slowly. I wouldn't trust them but they might learn their lesson.

I believe they will. If there is a grant available.
Biz does nothing without a potential payoff.
No money = No care.
Company I work for is in plastics. Under Obama, they started an aggressive recycling program. Paused under Trump2016. RAPID expansion under Biden and now all recycling is terminated. All due to Federal-State-Local-Industry Grants.
(plastic recycling is a fraud, btw. It makes inferior plastic products that require 2x-5x the wall thicknesses to achieve the same strength. Also the energy required to recycle is massive compared to virgin material. Additionally, you can recycle ONE time before the material is way to shitty to use again.
Don't listen to yurocucks. They lie to themselves because they enjoy paying 80% taxes)

Reuse of containers exposes a user to virus and bacteria. The surface of consumer grade plastics is porous compared to glass. The washing and chemicals required for reuse deletes all energy savings. Also, you can't thermally sterilize plastic. One case of food poisoning and all your 'energy savings' is deeply in the negative.

The only REAL way to recycle is to BURN. The energy that HDPE contains is roughly equiv to gasoline. However, you need to have vigorous scrubbers to eliminate the potential toxins by incomplete combustion. After the purchase and maintenance of scrubbers, burning waste plastic (and the post-consumer impurities) isn't worth it compared to natural gas

probably late and gay, but any recommendations for getting premium stl files, besides thingiverse?

I had a tad bit of leftover filament left in my grey roll and someone suggested something kiwifarms related...so I made this little token. Feel free to do whatever the fuck you want with it irdk

Here's a print I did on my basic bitch Ender 3 V2. The base size was tiny and I had to increase it by 1488%.

Well, I'm converting my old POS Ender 3 v2 to a Switchwire. Printed all the hardware and now I'm waiting for the shit to arrive from China.

I already own a Bambu A1 but I figured it would be cool to build another printer.

any thoughts on this new upcoming filament printer? I already own an Ender 3 V2, but I just could never get it working again after a few prints, think this one would be easier to use and manage?
I've watched a few different videos (all of which sponsored shit) and it seems like the machine has some issues with firmware/software. There seemed to be some common complaints of being unable to send files remotely, view the camera, and control the machine from the slicer completely at random. The print quality seemed fine, but there were some really noticeable VFA's in the prints, assuming that's an issue for you.

Based. I thought about building a Switchwire but it really doesn't have a place in my batch of machines. Besides, my Trident still isn't done so I shouldn't buy another printer right now.

I've finally gotten to the point of trying to use my K2 Plus. Now that I've mostly gotten PETG tuned I started trying to print the front and rear panels for my retro computer FPGA thingy. And as they're large flat panels the curved bed isn't helping matters as ABL can only help so much. So I'm trying to flatten the bed a bit and see if that helps and may look at other options. Like allowing some defects in the first layer and using high build primer and paint, but I bought fancy CF PETG that's supposed to look nice.

I love technology.

If you can nail down the shape of it I've had luck putting kapton tape on the underside of the plate I'm using to shim the difference.
