The thing is, if those pets are taken, they'll totally be put down. Maaaaybe not the cats if they're not too sick, but the dogs for sure.
If Sorbet is even still alive at this point, he
will get put down if taken away by authorities.
Put yourself in Barb's place. She's watched her entire life get engulfed in trash and now nobody but her strange tranny son even cares about her. She doesn't know about the Farms, and she's old. Her mind has probably broken under her sheer despair that all her plastic shit didn't buy her immortality. Barb is getting old and knows/knew it. She wasn't in a healthy state of mind when she was young, even.
Hard to have pity for her given that, as mentioned, this is entirely her doing. Even before she met Bob, we have confirmed stories that she was trying to steal the boyfriends of her own sisters and that she was a right piece of shit even in youth. Bob wasn't a saint himself but he kind of submitted to Barb in the end, especially after Chris was born, and he was powerless to stop her from hoarding random crap and letting Chris be spoiled for his entire childhood because he was 'special'. I mean, she pretty much
invented suicide baiting to force Chris to do things, claiming that he didn't love her enough and not doing such-and-such would let her die.
And then when the GamePlace lawsuit happened, the
only reason Bob's post-mortem nest egg of $50k was burned on Rob Bell was
not because Chris was on trial, it was because
so was Barb. She threw away all that money to try and stay out of prison (which ultimately didn't quite work anyway - didn't she spend a little time behind bars? Will need to consult the wiki again), with Chris along for the ride even though it was kind of his idiocy and egotism that led to the incident happening in the first place.
She watched her life get buried in trash because she
wanted it to, being a hoarder on the level of the ones you see on those television shows. She's never really looked out for Chris's best interest, given there is no provision to support him after her death and IIRC she's even borrowed AGAINST his life insurance. Cole may be a right asshole himself and the matter over which he severed ties with Barb still disputed to this day, but he made the right call by cutting off all contact - there is nothing to be gained with association with Barb.
His life will basically end when hers does. I know people claim he'll be better off with freedom, etc, but he'll lose all touch with reality. If you think he gets arrested a lot now, just wait.
My vote is that he eventually gets institutionalized after being found incapable of living on his own. If he was left totally on his own then MAYBE he would have been okay, but Barb's ongoing debts which will outlive her will certainly destroy Chris.
