Seven people remained unaccounted for a day after an explosion at a warehouse storing fireworks in Northern California, the authorities said on Wednesday.

A fire broke out in the warehouse just after 6 p.m. Pacific time on Tuesday, Cal Fire, the state’s firefighting agency, said in a statement on Wednesday. The fire triggered an enormous pyrotechnics display along with flames and smoke in a largely rural area of Esparto, Calif., about 30 miles northwest of Sacramento, officials said.

Officials did not immediately give any information about injuries but said that multiple structures were on fire. A cause was still unknown on Wednesday.

Cal Fire said that while the fireworks warehouse was “owned by an active pyrotechnic license holder,” investigators would work to determine whether all of its operations were in line with license requirements.

“This type of incident is very rare,” Cal Fire said in its statement.

When firefighters arrived on Tuesday evening, they found “numerous explosions and numerous wildfires throughout the area,” Curtis Lawrence, the chief of the Esparto Fire Protection District, said at a news conference on Tuesday night. The fires covered about 80 acres, he said, adding that firefighters had those under control while crews battled the main blaze.

“The fire will take time to cool, and once it does, explosive experts must safely enter the site to assess and secure the area,” the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday night. The Sheriff’s Office urged people to avoid the area for at least several days.

The Sheriff’s Office announced a one-mile evacuation zone around the warehouse and urged people to avoid the area. The evacuation order remained in effect on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office said that it was not “investigating anything criminal at this time,” and added that the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s arson and bomb unit was taking the lead in the investigation.

A joint statement from the city of Marysville, the city of Yuba City, Sutter County and Yuba County identified the operator of the warehouse as Devastating Pyrotechnics. The company’s website and social media accounts did not appear to be active on Wednesday afternoon and company officials could not be reached for comment.

The fireworks for the joint Yuba-Sutter region’s Fourth of July celebration were destroyed, according to the statement, which noted that “honoring those affected” by the explosion was the top priority. Devestating Pyrotechnics had been “a trusted partner” and a “cherished part” of past firework celebrations, according to the statement.

“This tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the many hands behind the scenes who help create joy for others,” the statement said.

Oakdale fire is the fireworks warehouse. Looks like the owner may have lived on-site.
Here is a satellite photo showing the area of the facility where the explosion occurred.

Probably a shit head owner hiring illegal beaners and told them to use a pool instead of getting AC. I'm looking at the top of the warehouse and I'm not noticing any condenser units where the shit normally would be.
If you look at the map of the place before it blew up, it's a warehouse attached to what's also someone's private property, the pool belongs to the house.

The most surprising thing is there was an operational fireworks factory in the US.

I don't think I've ever set off an American firework, and I've set off a shit ton of them.

Wonder what it was a cover for. Meth lab? Weapons pipeline to foreign countries? Mysterious.
its not a factory, just a storage warehouse, im sure all the fireworks where made in china, but i hear brazil is starting up a few factorys.

not sure if this is a 1.3(commercial grade) or 1.4 (consumer grade/tent) fireworks storage magazine, i would assume it is a 1.3 one.

they are highly regulated and difficult to get approved, usually they are shipping containers stored out in some field, funny about this one being a building because i was talking to some friends in the business about one of our distributers that got his approved in his metal building like this, as they did not think it would get approved.

You're a fuckin' tourist to my country and I'm calling ICE on you. Delaware, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Etc; You need to go outside more before saying something so ignorant retarded.

Ignoring the big pieces of debris that landed in the pool... would being underwater protect you from the explosion's shockwave?
To answer, I offer some dark naval warfare trivia from the dubya dubya the second.

The Japanese, and we in turn, used to drop depth charges in the water after very large/vicious battles, because the underwater blast could be used to give lethal seawater enema's to survivors in the water. Same thing can happen if the boiler or a magazine explodes when the ship is underwater. Easier than taking prisoners.
Survivors treading water would often be seen trying to keep their asses above water, in both cases, depth charge or boiler/magazine goin kaboom.

There’s videos showing how you can modify a construction job box to be approved for 1.3 fireworks. Kinda funny, I was trying to get a license to get them myself but I found out you need a magazine or something like it to be approved by an ATF agent, and apparently they’re more concerned about you keeping your inventory accounted for. Like the shit you buy, what you lit off, what you’re still keeping in storage. Oh and they want to make sure you aren’t an insane loon.

are they showing how to use it as a magazine, or modify it so the lid closes on its own for storing shells during a hand light shoot?
i dont think they would approve anything that can be carried away as a storage magazine and i dont know if you could fit the required clasps on a job box.

but you dont need a magazine to get into 1.3, we have been doing shows for around 15 years and just got storage a few years ago, you just have to pick it up on the day of your shoot and shoot it all,or return any extra (aka shoot it all)

or look into 1.4 pro, basically 1.3 shells that you can store wherever but you need "training" to buy them, a large amount of our show is now 1.4 pro
