Walking my dog in the woods during autumn is soothing, better than any other time of year. Going to the pumpkin patch as well, hayrides and all that. I guess being outside in autumn is the most refreshing thing for me, the air is crisp but not freezing and the smell is iconic.

Jeeze, where to even start? So many things I enjoy year round reach their peak or start their way climbing towards it during autumn.

Semi-proper chai tea; half water and half milk is so much thicker and cozier than other tea in just the texture alone, and the spices... well, you all know why that's so special.
Baking little sugared and spiced pieces of pie dough scrap that I shaped with a pumpkin cookie cutter to garnish my pumpkin pies with feels more special, especially when it's October and I get to cut little faces into them.
The house smelling of whatever I've been roasting or stewing all day is even better when stepping inside from cool, crisp air.
It's already a nice sensation to handle the laundry fresh out of the dryer, but a chilly breeze through the window elevates it to true "the little things" comfort.
Spiced wax melts, incense and candles smell so much better when paired with crisp, cool air.
And the long, hot baths... There are no words.

You'll never understand how hard you're missing out until you have yourself a slice of proper pumpkin pie. Just get yourself a can of 100% pumpkin, follow a recipe and you'll be okay. Emphasis on following the recipe and not trying to take shortcuts or skipping the temp-change phase. The ingredients are cheap, even if you do it right and use all four spices and use honey in place of sugar. Please please PLEASE, bake a pumpkin pie and share it with anyone else you want in on it. I promise that there really is a good reason for all of the fuss.

I believe I mentioned earlier in the thread that migratory birds start visiting the feeder/bath, in addition to the usual guests. Sat by the window today and saw:
A mated pair of Northern Cardinals
Carolina chickadees
Tufted Titmice
A mated pair of Carolina Wrens
A Brown Thrasher that only visits for the bird bath
A Yellow-Rumped Warbler
Mocking birds that mimic the resident hawk to scare other birds from the feeder
Blue Jays that act just like the Mocking birds
A little group of Mourning Doves that waits for scraps under the feeder
Red Bellied Woodpecker
Downey Woodpecker
White-eyed Vireo

Made my first ever butternut squash soup today and now I hate that I never had it before it's so tasty. Husband liked it too so it's in our rotation of recipes for the foreseeable future.
Then I played some Switch and drank coffee, went to work, and put a candle on to read before bed. (KF included)

that sounds like an absolutely glorious autumn evening <3

It's our first real freeze tonight. I dug out my gf's electric throw, made sure the microfiber blankets were washed and dried, and made hot cocoa on the stove. We listened to a Charles Paris mystery curled up together sipping marshmallow laden cocoa as the cat snored on top of us. A very cozy evening.

Last night, I whipped out the heating blanket for the first time in forever. Glad it still works, 'cause I had a great night's sleep. It felt toasty in the house too while I was eating some breakfast. I usually hate that shit.

Also, for the first time in a long time, I actually enjoyed the cold air on my fingertips again when I headed outside Let's see if I keep that attitude up for winter.

Wearable blankets are super cozy. This is the brand I ordered. Some come in even longer sizes for taller people. I'm 5'7 and it comes down to just above my ankles.

It's like a hug. So fluffy and cozy. The hood is absolutely huge. I love it.

Definitely feeling the warmer PJs and fuzzy socks vibe. Mr. Whale filled up our calendar with a horror movie for each night before Halloween. It feels good to cuddle on the couch with some apple cider and enjoy the spooky season this year.

While winter is my favorite season, I think fall is the time of year where I find the most avenues to be comfy. Been drinking warm apple cider with infused mulling spice a couple nights a week after work, and I'm finding it helps me sleep in on the weekends. I also recently went fishing up at this massive reservoir in the dead center of Massachusetts and as I was sitting along the banks catching nothing but lake grass, I don't think I saw a single tree that didn't have a little color to it, which always reassures me that winter and its northeastern blizzards will eventually come

I only ever use pumpkins for stew, I need to try them in some different things. I normally have stew with bread and cheese.
Have you ever tried making pumpkin (or kabocha) croquettes? They're a little finicky to make, as you have to freeze the filling or else breading is a BITCH, but they're pretty yummy.

Thai or Japanese curry is also pretty classic for seasonal pumpkin, I think. I want to throw some in my next Japanese curry, but I think I'd be the only one in the house to enjoy it, haha.

This is my favourite thing for easy home curry. Definitely gonna get some tomorrow with some of that short grain rice. There’s places in Japan where you can get this katsu kind of curry for cheap, drinking in bars seemed more expensive in Japan but I was able to eat out every day.

Yessssss, Golden Curry! Vermont Curry is also a nice brand if you like a mellow flavor profile. Or get real wild with it and mix brands... that felt like heresy, though.
