A message regarding the enemies of this website

I've definitely said over the years that people need to realize what people are getting into this sort of thing here. As others have said in this thread, people tend to underestimate the kind of people who lurk here and what they can do. I've seen people think doxxing is just things like sending unwanted pizza to your place but it looks like that people are starting to use life ruin tactics on others.

Obviously I'm no longer staff but I feel bad that people are in this situation. But I do agree that you really shouldn't use the same username everywhere else (or at least associated with IRL stuff) or in the very least, not to prod at people if you choose to neglect that. I never really wanted this place to dox users or provoke people but if people are morons on both sides and reveal personal details, I never felt it was my position to baby them either like Null feels. That's why I preferred the lolcow boards be to just discuss and laugh at people.

I'm not attacking the staff here, I think the key thing is that people sincerely don't realize what they're getting themselves into. Being active on this site isn't something you should announce to the world and it can impact you negatively in life if other people find out.

Protip: If you have a gmail or YouTube account, your information is likely available on google+, and it can easily be attained by people simply following you on there. But you can easily change it by putting in some bogus name and changing some details in settings.

No, this isn't good enough. It's not OK to have an Internet handle if you're concerned about being doxxed. I tell people explicitly, do not use a name you've used anywhere else. Even if you're super careful about what you say here and never give away any personal information, if you used your username on another forum, chances are you were more lax there and that information bleeds over.

Compartmentalize everything you do online.

People should be afraid. People should be very afraid. Once a 12 year old boy posted that his mom made him an awesome sandwich and tumblr got upset about him perpetuating gender roles so they doxed him and then a feminist showed up at his house and shot him right in the head.
What?! Jesus Christ Tumblr, the kid's mom just made him a sandwich!

I heard that tumblr has been kidnapping cis men from their beds while they sleep and taking them to underground labs where they're given involuntary sex-change operations by POC doctors who only got their medical degree because of affirmative action and not because they were the most qualified for the job.

Be warned, people.

I think we need to calm down.

Projecting panic is not a sign of strength or self-confidence. Honestly I understand warning people upon signup or directing them to a thread etc, but keeping this on the front page sends a signal that we have shit to hide.

Now, I don't personally (virtues of having a boring internet life before this place are apparent now), but as long as precautions are taken everyone will be fine.

I would read that.

It requires a certain number of messages, but not a high one. It's designed to avoid casual browsing, not be a security wall. If you're extremely uncomfortable with people seeing your photos you shouldn't be uploading them to a site full of sociopathic autismal trollkin.
Im not that paranoid and i think no one would be doxxing a fat young Brazilian man who likes cats.

How sure are you that nobody will eventually hack the site? I don't particularly care too much but I'm sure some users would be in trouble if their email and IP were revealed.
If they pulled the entire database it wouldn't matter because the software keeps track of email changes. If you've put the email up it does not come down.

holy shit its a website where we make fun of autists not some supersecret underground trolling circle where you have to use fake ids and prepaid cards

You mistake what I'm saying if you believe this is the only naughty shit I get into. What I posted was just a general rule of thumb if you are going to do something that most people frown upon. Trolling isn't that bad, but some things you can get into on the internet are. I enjoy a wide range of things and I'm careful to cover my tracks. I simply shared the rules I follow since it seemed like the right place to do so.

Is there a full "nuke" option? Like, if shit gets real and you are identified, is there a way you can delete your account and expunge everything about you on here? I know that's hella optimistic, but just asking, who knows.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Nooooooooooooo. Deleting the information here doesn't remove it from the doxxers computer....or his thumbdrive....or his portable drive....or the page he printed out and uses as a dartboard....or the hundreds of forum posts spread across the internet where they repost your dox over and over and over again.
The only thing that saves the doxed persons ass is that 4Chan is Not (the doxers) Personal Army.
With any luck the doxer is such a douche that those his 'Faggotry' annoys the 4channers so much that 4channers themselves start targeting the doxer for some Anonymous /baph/-stylee "mischief".

Luckily I had already accidentally "poisoned the Google+ database" by having so much silly nonsense in my YouTube profile that my Google+ (which I never asked for/had no use for) auto-generated half a profile full of nonsense on its own.
Youtuber's blackmetaljesus and maintainpresence still think my real name is Luther Arkwright.

or, y'know, laying low and ignoring the fuck out of it as much as possible...

Ah, but thats what makes a lolcow a lolcow: the inability to lay low and ignore the fuck out of anything.
How many lolcows come on here to "defend their honor" and end up humiliating themselves further?
Even when you tell them to their face "Every time you respond you are merely generating 'Content' for us!"
Nope, they still keep smashing their scrotum against the electric barbed wire of our contempt over and over and over again, as if it proves their point or something.

Time for a PSA.

It is always good to try and dox yourself now and then to see what people can find out about you using only a few bits of information.
