He has no interest in changing the current system nor in experiencing the glorious workers’ paradise for himself. He just thinks it’s cool and rebellious to call himself a Communist. He acts rebellious because he’s a lazy fuckup. He’s no more a Communist than a Goth is a corpse.

Phil is, I cannot emphasise this enough, actually retarded. He’s barely literate. He can parrot a line and even sound like he believes it, but he’s demonstrated on numerous occasions that he doesn’t understand any of the causes he attaches himself to beyond the surface level.

I'd have to argue that Phil would love for Communism to take over the US if that meant he was given an important and influential position within the party. Phil isn't a Capitalist so much as he is a lazy consumer who wants to enjoy a life of materialistic comfort without ever working for it. Phil and a lot (most) of the Neo-Pinko Commie Kiddies in the US believe that a Socialist/Communist Revolution in America would mean that they will be provided with housing, food, medical care, and everything else they want without having to have a job, and that as the "soldiers" who are "fighting" to bring about this Utopia, that will automatically mean they will be among the Party Elite. They think they'll be the ones calling the shots, making the rules, executing the subversives, and taking their "rightful place" as the leaders of a bright new dawn. The truth is that they're all childish idiots who believe they're too good to earn their own way in the world like every other grown-ass adult does. They are bitter, selfish, entitled, jealous have-nots who are envious of the haves who work hard for the lives they've earned. They want everything given to them because they believe they're special. Phil wants the world Marx painted in his writing as in "true, full communism", a world without government, money, religion, family etc. aka a system that has proved unattainable in the real world. Everything works in theory, it's only the regular world and normal people who suck, you know. The communist nations of the 20th century were communist in the ideological sense, but they didn't call their economic model communism, but just "real socialism", as a development phase between capitalism and "true communism".
