Clearly you can’t win with reddit. Didn’t buy Ari a birthday sash? Obviously she’s abused. $150 birthday cake? Obviously too much money was spent.Today was the day of the big party at the Smith house. Alex has not posed tons of pictures, which is kind of surprising-- or it could mean that the Smiths drew a hard line and told her not to blast it on social media.
Ari looks delightfully happy:

This was the cake:

Reddit threw a shit fit about the cake, which Alex said cost $150. People were going on about how the cake is not worth $150, in their extremely educated opinion. A few brave souls attempted to point out that it was very much a $150 cake and that prices also really vary depending on where you live. One person who said they are a cake decorater popped in and said no, $150 is about right. The Redditors rolled right over this, continued to bitch about the price, and also complained that it wasn't a smash cake (though I think that parfait thing she had was meant to be smashed?).
There's plenty to criticize Alex for, but I'm not sure this is it. Would I personally spend $150 on a first birthday cake, no matter how much it was worth it? No, but plenty of people who are not Alex choose to. It was tasteless to brag about the cost of the cake as a way to own the haters, but what's really tasteless is having a baby for internet clout and proceeding to make content out of her.

The cake is adorable, and cakes (especially if they’re custom) are expensive. You didn’t pay for it, so mind your business.
Agreed, Alex deserves criticism for so many things, but this just ain’t it.
ETA: Happy birthday, Ari!
