Here kids start kindergarten around 1-1.5 (sometimes earlier).
If you have a active kid like she seem to have you kinda want them in kindergarten to get some energy out.
Maybe get some socializing in.

Again, not a burgerfag so other rules might apply but here the schooling in starts in August the year after you're born pretty much.

Like I never seen her taken ari to open preschool or hardly interact with other kids.
Like, no shade in kindergarten preference but from what I've seen of ari I just think she would thrive in that setting.
Alex only has her on Sundays most weeks, I believe. Ari seems like a bright, engaged, healthy and happy little kid so there's a good chance Noah and his parents are giving her plenty of stimulation, love and opportunities for growth/learning the rest of the week, as well as shielding her from social media exposure as best they can. Given all of our misgivings about N's parenting abilities before she was born, this is all pretty commendable... Eventually Alex will be dead and Ari can hopefully grow up loved and out of the spotlight with her dad and grandparents.

In the US, Kindergarten starts at 5-6, although some states/districts have implemented pre-K programs that start at 4. Daycare can start right after birth if you wanna pay for it, but unless you're super poor the government isn't gonna pay to watch your kids til 4 at the earliest.

Everything people have said about US kindergarten is correct; Ari is years away from that. She does seem to go to church with her grandparents, so I hope she's getting some exposure to other kids there. It would do her some good to be with other children.

This is the rest of my Alex backlog. There's nothing really earth-shattering in this, but it's good to be complete.

Alex calls this a playground, but it looks sort of like artificial turf?

Bet the pink English sandals with solid, traction-equipped soles were from Grandma.

"Made homemade eggplant rolittini for toots"-- you and what army "made" that? I assume she means rollatini.

This is the cutest picture:

Bets that she's looking at Noah?

Some bad eyeshadow decisions:

Do you remember those 80s Barbies that had the bright blue eyeshadow all the way up to the eyebrow? That's apparently the look she's going for.

Anything from birth to 4 is just Care. I run a nursery and if anyone tried to call what I do with my 1-year olds Kindergarten, I'd laugh. Kindy/preschool would be more structured school-based learning/preparation- until then it's "play based" and more focused on care and development than academia.

I'm not 100% on the Daycares available on the US, but I would have assumed Ari entering a daycare would have been heavily suggested if not required by CPS- even if not totally needed for work/care etc. Daycare workers are mandated reporters and an easy way to monitor a child who's at risk of neglect or harm.

Ah, maybe I conflicted kindergarten w daycare?

Here it's around $300-400/month, unless you're poor then the government stept in and help you.
But then you have your kids looked after, a lot of hiking going on and socializing w other kids in a controlled environment.
The groups are usually 6 kids and 3 teachers if you school in your kid early.
I assumed pree-scool was 5-6 and then school at 6-7 isch.

My point still stand, I think ari would find it fun going on hikes, climbing trees and hang around other kids ❤️

Eta here they have curriculums even for the smallest kids and even if you don't plonk them down in little benches they still find time to interact in a meaningful way that's (hopefully) supposed to help w the learning.
❤️

Damn, I wish daycare/preschool was that cheap here. A decent daycare run by people with credentials around my parts is closer to $1,000-$1,300 a month. I am in Commifornia, though, so I acknowledge that price probably contains the 'tard tax I pay for living here.

All that aside, I wanted to marvel at how pretty Ari is. She's one of those rarities that is birthed from two boiled-cabbage looking people and comes out absolutely lovely.

I don't think it's much better here in Minnesota, either. One of my old managers would bring her baby to work because daycare for an infant was too expensive.

I’m in Commiefornia too and agree we are extra expensive-but daycare is expensive everywhere as I hear from friends all over. And it should be: They feed, change, socialize, nap kids-basically substitute parents for when parents work.

Preschool is a bit different-they are private or church run places that focus on getting a child ready for kindergarten:listen to teacher, follow rules, understand routine, learn some ABCs, read name, play with others without fighting, this usually starts at 3 and the kid needs to be potty-trained.

Then there are the official government run preschools/PreK which start at 4. They are optional and free, located at the elementary school your child will be attending, and do the same as private preschools.

Kindergarten is 5, depending on birthday so it could be 6, or if your kid is 5 but immature you can put in off for a year. This is free but not optional, and this is where learning begins. It’s usually a short day but they start to learn to read and numbers , etc.

A parent can homeschool but rules are different in every state. There are private schools too.

Then elementary, high school etc.

A kid Ari’s age doesn’t really need to socialize with other children. They don’t play with each other until about 3 anyway, before this they play side by side and can get anxious about sharing their toys. Developmentally, it’s best to be with parents until school age, although most don’t have that luxury. (And I’m not talking about a parent like Alex.)

As a mom who stayed home because fuck paying for childcare, fully agree. Ari can maybe handle a play date or museum trip, but even the park is enough for her for a bit.
Daycares in my area of Colorado are insane and were about 2k a month (7 years ago) …..hard pass.

Alex is just….there. Watching her “make lunch” video with the turkey, copious mustard and green beans was cringe and sad.

Ari is fucking adorable.

You'd be surprised. Mine are with me from as early as 6 weeks to a year and a half- I've got 9m olds who LOVE the other children in the room. They don't usually engage in cooperative or interactive play for a while, but they they follow each other around and giggle together constantly. Just because it's not the kind of play you observe in older children, doesn't mean they're not playing together in their own way or benefiting from the socialisation. Ari's a bright and cheerful toddler, given the right daycare she would very likely have an absolute blast with the other children, and you'd get the benefit of a professional and mandated reporters being able to watch over any changes in her behaviour or home situation.

You are right. I meant most kids don’t need it developmentally, if they have attentive parents who take them to parks, libraries and museums where other kids are. But I didn’t mean there is no benefit and for a child like Ari it might be helpful indeed, since her most important biological role model is barely functioning.

I do think by 3 they should be socializing, either through a gymnastics or music play class or daycare.

People are fucking retarded my god. At that point just wait to have children until you have the time to raise your literal newborn.
That's when Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) and disability payments in the US drops off and tons of Moms literally have to go back to work to feed their families. There is no guaranteed maternity leave in the US, definitely no guaranteed paid maternity leave, and disability is a crapshoot that depends on how fucked up birth left you.

I am not arguing that 6 week olds at daycare isn't objectively sad, I'm just saying that there's this group of parents in the US who have to make really tough decisions about whether to go back to work and fork over a grand or more of that earned money per month or have a parent stay home with baby and lose any income that's leftover after paying for daycare. It's fucked up, but that's the reality of having a baby in America.

Can we go back to discussing how the goblin woman is a terrible human and bad mother but has a very cute child now, please?

Have her nose piercings gotten infected yet? I still don't know how she expects them to heal well with a bipap squished up against them every night...
Agreed.

I don't even know how she can sleep honestly- during the healing stage, I couldn't even sneeze without feeling like I was just punched in the face. Her bipap pretty much is just a punch to the face.

Did I hear a request for more Goblin Woman? I've got you covered!

New grid post, showing Ari grinning at whoever is holding the camera. Alex runs over Ari's sippy cup. A+ parenting!

Only captured a few comments, because they're being monitored right now.

Your child is not "going on 16." Stop it.

NOAH WATCH: present in some photos, hands also present in some cooking content. At least he's wearing a shirt this time.

One of my favourite games to play is looking at the difference in Ari's expression in the pictures taken from wheelchair height, like the new table and chairs one, and the ones taken from higher up, like the Minnie Mouse and denim vest ones...wr_04.pngwr_06.pngwr_07.pngwr_15.png
