So... Alex is miffed that CPS keeps a-knockin' because clearly it's nothing more than ableism and discrimination.

It couldn't possibly be because Alex is so physically disabled that she can barely hold up her own head--nevermind Ari's. It couldn't possibly be because her caregivers are a revolving door of likely unlicensed and unskilled randos she finds on fucking craigslist of all places and/or her ticking time bomb baby daddy. It couldn't possibly be because said baby daddy is a barely sentient "sober" personality-disordered fuck-up whose addled brain isn't finished developing. It couldn't possibly be because the NICU docs and nurses were watching Alex and Noah like hawks and taking notes because they're mandatory reporters and it's their job to keep babies alive and well enough to thrive. It couldn't possibly be because Alex is an incredibly naive and completely inexperienced "caregiver" who is statistically vulnerable to abuse and neglect herself due to her disabilities--how could she possibly protect her own child if something bad were to happen? It couldn't possibly be because Ari is failing to gain weight and will likely struggle to achieve milestones on schedule. It couldn't possibly be because Noah is a proven flight risk. No, no, no.

Look, you ableist bastards... Ari has every heinously salmon-coloured outfit they make, okay? She has that doctor-approved death-trap bassinet canopy. She lives in a wildly expensive stylin' Instagram-able downtown Chicago apartment with a rooftop hot tub. She has books about BPD on her bookshelf. Everyone knows that's all you need to raise a child you had no business having.

Instead of being grateful and accepting of all the help and support and resources she can get for Ari, this self-absorbed dumbass is pissy and petulant. Go ahead and post as many strategically posed family portraits with your unshowered baby daddy as you want but it still doesn't negate the fact that your innocent child is at risk of myriad lifelong issues be it failure to thrive or something more dark and sinister like child abuse/neglect.

A lot of people assume the goal is to take children away, but it's actually to keep families together. The system absolutely has its problems though. Noah and Alex need all of the resources they can get, hopefully they aren't rejecting help out of pride
I wish people would understand this! Most cases they’d like to keep families together, even if children are temporarily removed they usually have reunification as the end goal. They have so many resources and programs available to help support parents.

DCFS stands for department of children and family services. I also mentioned CPS which stands for Child Protective Services.

I think the titles vary by state

ETA, the comment I replied to is gone, the comment asked what DCFS stands for
Yeah I deleted my comment because it looked weird to me even though I had edited it, but thanks for the clarification. I was suspecting it was like the CPS. 🫶🏼

Illinois calls it DCFS. CPS in Illinois refers to Chicago Public Schools.

24C is... actually on the cool side where I am. I don't doubt that high temperatures are distressing for a newborn, but millions of babies are born all around the world every year in extremes of hot and cold, without the benefit of air conditioning, and thrive regardless. The low twenties are very mild for the most part, I can't see how anyone could complain.

These Reddit people are insane.

The Reddit posters are so concerned about the weirdest shit that doesn’t compare to what’s actually going on. I don’t even know what to call it other then Reddit retardism
Alex and Noah aren't killing the baby fast enough for them so they have to fabricate crises to snark on.
Snark subs go like this when there isn't any snark to snark on. Hilaria Baldwin for example is currently quiet due to the Alec Baldwin court case so her snark sub is re running her greatest hits right now for her anti-fans to hate on. Now I love to observe this madwoman do her thing but....she's not doing anything right now. Reddit needs to keep the snark levels pumped up to 11 at all times so they have the 'memberberries out for that time she got her tits out in a family photo in 2021 etc etc.

Alex does an Instagram Q&A.
Predictably, a lot of questions are about the DCFS visit. She answers a few.

It's all bogus reports from haydurs and the redditors.

But don't worry, their legal eagles are on the case.

Someone asked how Alex is doing and she gave a meh answer considering she is not caring for a newborn at all, just doubling her caregiver's workload.

FINALLY, LOOK AWAY NOW THOSE OF A SENSITIVE DISPOSITION
(Yes, this is the orientation she chose. Yes, it vexed me too.)

They had better keep a good eye on that doggo. I know they said it's "warming up" to the baby (or something similar), but it looks more concerned than curious. Hard to know whether a wary dog is feeling threatened or protective sometimes.

Then again, the dog might be the least dangerous occupant of the apartment for that baby.

And ffs, would he ever wear some clothes. The two of them gross me out, always underdressed.

You can make an anonymous report to child protective services, I'm not sure how it works with mandated reporters though.

In my experience, the claims have been read to the parents, even word for word (like when Alex said the report said she was "very, very disabled", it sounded like a direct quote from the complaint)

So even if your name isn't given to the parents, if you are reporting things that only you would know, or someone close to the family would know, it can be easy to narrow down who made the call. Again, this might vary by state, and I'm not sure if mandated reporters can do anonymous reports, or if the claims are read in every state, or even in every scenario.

Also, yeah you can't make false claims and people use the system to retaliate against others, or to go after people they don't like, just because.

In this case though, the complaint isn't wrong. She's severely disabled and Noah is a recovering addict. So even if the report closes and everything is fine, the report wasn't false, the concerns were valid even if they are deemed unfounded. I doubt there would be any legal means to go after the reporter.

ETA, no one should be reporting her, just as a reminder.

You clocked that too.
Doggo's stance does have me a little nervous, it seems to be holding a lot of tension in its shoulders.

To be fair so would I if I lived in that madhouse.
