Amazon's Invincible - thoughts?

First episode of S2 was decent. Glad to hear the multiverse shit doesn't hang around too long, there's already a surplus of that as is in the genre right now.
 
So far along the path, I can't figure out why Viltrum wants Earth. I mean, the place gets besieged by supervillains almost every fucking day. I doubt a change in authority would convince them to stop. They won't just lay down their arms if Earth surrenders or joins Viltrum, they'll just experiment to try and figure out how to kill Viltrumites. Hell, one of Earth's crime bosses hired Battle Beast, a being powerful enough to pose enough of a threat that only the Viltrumite ruler Thragg managed to put him down. If Cecil hired him to slow Omni-Man down, BB would've likely killed the guy. Given that those robot-zombies Cecil used gave Mark and Nolan a decent workout, just improving and refining that tech would lead to them creating warriors that can go full Android 18 on someone like Omni-Man and break his limbs.

At least in Dragon Ball, Earth was considered fucking worthless by the Freeza Force and their empire; there's no resources there for them to exploit, and it isn't the best real estate out there, so they sent a low-level chump like Kakarot to conquer it because they didn't even care. But the Viltrumites sent one of their trusted officers-Nolan-to conquer Earth, which means they want it bad. But why they do, I can't figure out why. It's like taking control of a shithole that you'll probably lose men trying to defend, all to gain nothing of import. Nothing that the story has told us, anyways.

I can imagine a scenario where the governments of Earth are so overwhelmed by supervillain activity that they actually go ahead and surrender to the Viltrum Empire in order to gain their support, except the Viltrumite reinforcements sent by Thragg to claim the planet for the Empire get slaughtered by some forward-thinking supervillains who've already captured Mark Grayson and experimented on him enough to figure out how to kill Viltrumites. Thragg comes to claim the planet himself, but then the bad guys hired Battle Beast, and after Thragg exhausts himself killing the overgrown cat and destroying a city in the process, the criminals unleash some souped-up robot zombies who kill Thragg when he's down. They send his head back to Viltrum as a warning while they turn Earth into a crime-ridden hellhole.

Actually they sent Goku to Earth not because Earth didn’t have resources worth taking but because according to them there was no one and nothing on the planet strong enough to stop a baby saiyan especially when it goes monkey mode.

It was basically a worthless planet, and they sent a worthless mook to take it. Meanwhile, I can't figure why the Viltrumites would send a high-ranking officer to a shithole like Earth. Even if he did do his job and got the Earth to join Viltrum willingly, with the governments of the Earth even supporting the union, they'd still probably lose men trying to hold that dirtball; Viltrum would be better off leaving that place free and letting whatever mooks Cecil gets a hold of to patrol that place. The fact that one of its minor crime bosses can hire someone who can make 99.99999% of Viltrum look like they're pussies shows that it's the kind of place that would get Viltrumites killed trying to hold it.

It wasn’t about being worthless, it wasn’t at all considering Frieza found worth in a planet for how much he can sell it for/or get from it, AFTER the Saiyans are sent in to take shit over. Saiyans we’re used as a force to conquer planets so they could be ready for purchase and they were sent based on the threat level of the planet they were taking over. Earth had a low level of threat based on what they were aware of since the planet was located in a part of the galaxy they considered backwater. Besides Frieza would see a lot of value in a planet with lots of water and land, you think he wouldn’t find a buyer fast and for a shit ton? Seriously go re-read/watch, Saiyans we’re never sent in based on value of a world but the threat the world would be for the Frieza Force to take.

But like I said, I can't figure out why Nolan would be sent to Earth when it has nothing of value for the Viltrumites and holding it would be more trouble than it's worth. Local Earth criminals can hire heavy-hitters like the Battle Beast who can probably rip Viltrumites in two, and we've seen no shortage of enemies who can hurt Viltrumites; meanwhile, I can't really see anything Viltrum gets from conquering Earth. It's not like it's got space fuel or some resource that would be worth sending a high-ranking officer in to infiltrate.

Idk man never read or watched the show just posted because you said something about Goku and I like me some Dragon Ball!

Though reading your post I actually have to agree with you that it doesn’t make much sense in the context of what you’ve said about these aliens. Kinda seemed like Kirkman just wanted to rip off Dragon Ball without understanding why Frieza does what he do. I mean Frieza would just glass a planet if it took a second to long and he didn’t care much about it. On top of that Frieza, up until he met Goku, was the Apex predator of the whole universe and nothing besides Beerus was a threat to him, even the the race that Kirkman ripped off from. So he had no enemies that could match him so he was free to conquer as he pleased. But if this Viltrum people are surrounded by enemies, even ones that can beat them, like you said, what’s the point of wasting time with Earth? Maybe it’s explained in the comic later on why? Again idk I’ve never read it and haven’t watched the series just saw Goku so I posted lol.

Freeza at least is in the real estate business; even a dirtball like Earth populated by low-level freaks has some value to him because he'd clean that place out and then sell it to the highest bidder. Earth has no strategic value to a galactic race of would-be conquerors; their tech is laughably primitive when compared to Viltrum standards, to the point where Nolan says Viltrum medicine is centuries ahead of what the humans have. Given how powerful Viltrumites are, human slave soldiers would be poor assistants, outside of the metahumans who might be useful as training dummies. Even if they do conquer the place, the villains who regularly besiege the planet won't give a shit and would just experiment to try and find a way to kill the Viltrumites.

The only possible value I can find is that humans and Viltrumites are genetically compatible, so maybe the planet would have value if the Viltrumites wanted to just start harems to breed more Viltrumites, and in that respect, they wouldn't need to conquer the planet, just pay Earth women to get plowed by Viltrumite men and just pay Earth men to get plowed by Viltrum's women, and you're good to go. No need to conquer them when you can just pay the fuckers to be breeding stock.

Spoilers (Unless I'm an idiot and misremembering) :
I have two answers rattling around in my head. I finished the comics a few years back so it's possible I'm wrong but it's either: Omni-man is the actual heir to the viltrumite empire and the current ruler sent him to Earth to get him out of the picture, or Earthlings are highly compatible with viltrumite DNA and thus a mixed-Viltrumite/Human baby can reach the same potential power level as a full-blooded Viltrumite. Edit: The reason why that's important is that there's less than a hundred viltrumites left, I think.

How the fuck can you have a galactic empire with so little rulers? Also you could always justify in scifi conquering earth with "yeah it's nothing special but it's in a good strategic position".

It's because the viltrimites have extreme hubris that prevents them from seeing the big picture.

There's some bits and pieces I don't remember but I think they're hiding how few of them there are from the galaxy at large, and since 1 alone is enough to completely merc a civilisation (Omni-man wrecking those dimension hopping aliens being an example of that) they're able to keep to keep their subjects in line with just one or two dudes. Earth is also rather special in the setting since I think it having tons of super powered people all in one place whilst outside of Earth you got Beast Master and Seth Rogan alien who - to my memory - are the only people capable of actually fighting a viltrumite. That's also the reason why they don't just go to Earth on masse and destroy it since it wraps back to humans being the only species they can breed with who can match a full-blood viltrumite. Viltrumites can actually have kids with anything btw. I have no idea if they'll keep in a certain scene with Omni-man and a bug lady but you'll see what I mean if they do.

Uh....no. Its because there population was wiped out from a virus reducing their numbers to just 50. They are projecting they have more for the sake of keeping power (and honestly, all you need is an occasional visit by one viltrumite to do this when they are so strong), but realistically there is no coming back from what the plague has done to them.

Then they would've been better off pulling an Omni-Man to showboat on Earth as superheroes while opening a brothel. Give it 18 years, they'll have rebuilt their numbers to at least a few thousands.

I agree. This comic is pretty bad and doesn't really think about this shit.

As I said earlier in this thread, its just another watchmen off shoot that thinks its deconstructing the genre when its really just another bad addition to it.
