I feel like the only way that's really gonna happen is if I don't follow a program and I fully just choose healthier options, if that makes sense."
A huge issue is that what's sold as "healthier" food is not actually "better for you". Vegetables still have carbs, fruit has a lot of sugar. But dietary fiber keeps you full and raw leafy greens are incredibly low calorie to the point where 2 cups is 20-40 calories. In terms of weight, calories in, calories out. Health food has vitamins, minerals, it's all part of a balanced diet, but things that are toted as health food is notoriously calories dense. A 1/4 cup of nuts is like 200 calories. Trail mix and protein bars are too fat- and calorie-dense if you arent actually active and burning calories/fat/dont need the energy. And Ive seen fat people eat them and act like "Oh I ate a half cup of nuts as a snack instead of a bag of potato chips, I made the healthier choice!" No, not really.
Calorie counting is really important, and also the only way youre going to lose weight. Havent people made digs at this type of stuff by comparing it to someone saying "I dont like to balance my checkbook because I'm irresponsible with money and it makes me feel bad, I need a healthy relationship with finances so I consider myself rich all the time! #WealthAtEverySize(of paycheck)!"
