PL, but I used to work in tax and US IRS forms are HORRENDOUS. And judging what is/isn't allowable expenditure, capital elements, depreciation calculations on equipment etc etc can all get you deep in the shit as Onion found out. We're all from different parts of the world but the US system isn't set up the same way as the UK system even for straightforward employed people.

It may have changed in the years but the IRS makes other tax authorities look like widdle fluffy bunnies. AL is likely classed as a freelance contributor/contractor and if she's not been filing taxes god help her when the IRS find her - didn't she witter something about YT taking taxes, as if they were her employer? No, you ridiculous pachyderm. And she'll have barely any allowable expenditure to offset, and what little there is will only be offset (or partially) if she's kept every single receipt and written details on it. And we all know she's done that, neatly sorted, logged and filed in her mounds of crap. Not. The IRS do not miss one cent.

TL;DR Lots of YTers are fucked and I'd guess our gorl is in their ranks. E&R may not need help with their taxes but they're at least erring on the side of caution. AL is buying wax melts.

I very much doubt that Eric and Ricky's tax is that complicated. They are, at best, lower middle class, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were at, or below, the poverty line. Ricky isn't self-employed, nor has multiple sources of income. IF there is some kind of money being put away, it's probably a retirement account set up by the employer.

Ricky doesn't come across as the kind of person who is investing in the market, and Eric probably doesn't have enough brain power to play with shares/metals/bonds/what-have-you.

Frankly, most people in similar situation to them could do taxes on their own, but there is such a huge ado about taxes that some prefer to have an accountant do it for them.

As for Amber, she doesn't file taxes, period. I'll go ahead and start a thread on her financial situation, but I suspect it will mostly be speculation since she doesn't give us many clues about the matter.

I don't think so either. But the IRS is feared - a tax specialist gives peace of mind and avoids penalties, which can be brutal. It tends to be a diminishing returns thing; the richer you are the more wiggle-room and the earliest years save you more. Tho a lot of tax work is for tradesmen and manual workers, for the allowable expenses, equipment depreciation and all that blah.

They don't seem like the sharpest tools in the shed, and AL definitely needs a tax specialist - even if she has dodged the IRS up to now, an accountant will negotiate a deal and payment plan. I hear so many Americans talk about places like H&R Block that I guess big places like that probably have a set fee for a simple return? Guess its a better-safe-than-sorry thing.

(I'll stick anything else that might be pertinent in an appropriate thread, if there is one. Don't want to derail. But her finances are something we all speculate on...there MUST be something else bringing in $$$...)

Not to backtrack too far and correct me if I'm wrong but my own experience with Wellbutrin is that it's capable of making people aggro; gives people that little bit of edge they lose when depressed, particularly it does well when coupled with other anti depressants that make people feel emotionless. Some people don't like how quick to anger they can feel on the stuff, I wonder if our graceful queen will notice a difference in her already Ursula-like personality. Godspeed, gay house.

The fee for HR Block is actually quite significant for what it is. The people working there aren't necessarily very qualified. Last year they fucked up my taxes and wanted me to pay for the amendment.

I’m not sure the physiological effects of psychiatric medications are effected by weight. It could be a thing, but if it’s something make to target brain function it doesn’t seem likely. Keep in mind that this wasn’t someone in the psychiatric field prescribing these meds so maybe they were specifically zeroing in on the “benefits” of appetite surpression vs depression.

All I’m saying is the situation is shady af, but I have to remember that this is not only Amber, but the state of healthcare in a bumblefuck part of this country.
