To this day, Amberlynn gets hundreds if not thousands of comments per week from oblivious people that are horrified by all the "hate" she gets. Most of them mention cyberbullying if not suicide. And if Becky targeted Amberlynn and was purposefully fishing for a sugar mama, why did BECKY insist the relationship progress at a much slower pace than Amberlynn was comfortable with? I do think that AL has an eating disorder. She compulsively eats large portions of food. She can't have one bag of chips with her footloog Subway, she has to have two. She can't have a small serving of potatoes and sausage she has to have a huge plate. Compulsive overeating is an eating disorder, just as Eugenia has an eating disorder on the opposite spectrum.

The difference is that Eugenia got help for hers and seems to understand that it was a problem and is working on fixing it. She wanted help, she wants to be better. I hope she continues helping herself into a better her. She seems really sweet and nice.

The main difference between the two of them (and why they're incomparable imo) is that beyond body checking occasionally, Eugenia never outwardly disclosed her eating behaviors. She never made it an aspect of her content (others did, but that's besides the point). Whatever she did, whatever demons she faced, she faced alone and didn't knowingly/intentionally drag anyone with her. Since she never addressed it, it wasn't really her responsibility to update her viewers on it.

Amber made her entire channel about her "disorder," made multiple videos about it, sucked everyone in emotionally, but doesn't take steps on her own to help her situation or even update people on the things she constantly mopes about. I agree that both Eugenia and Amber are similar in that they were driven to where they were by mental health. Amber's obsession to have many of the same thing are likely because she was stuck in the foster care system as a child, and did not have access to these things. Now that she does, she acts like there's no tomorrow and cannot stop buying more things that she clearly doesn't need. I think she could definitely get better if she was serious about going to therapy and improving her mental health but she clearly doesn't think anything is actually wrong with her. Going to a psychiatrist just to get prescribed some pills is not going to help her with this issue.. (not that I think she even went).

This is exactly what I was thinking myself. This poor girl took all of the hatred thrown at her and still continued to act positive and ignore commenting about food or her obvious eating disorder. Amber is a simple bitch that likes to repeat words or phrases (or attempt to) that she hears without truly grasping what the meaning behind the word is. I have little doubt that “binge eating disorder” is something she read or heard and decided to co-opt it into her vocabulary. The term is useful for her in a couple of ways:

1) it allows her to do what every other vapid Youtubers does and talk about their mental health problems with their audience. It’s a manipulative tactic that some of these people use try to humanize themselves to their audience and also doubles as sympathy points
2) it’s a “soft” term for her to redirect all he blame to instead of back at herself. If she has something to blame, then she loses accountability and can default to blaming a disorder, not understanding that whole part of the diagnosis that explicitly states it’s a “disorder” (read: a behavior that is not normal).

Amber’s not a complicated gorl. She eats because she likes it and she does it in excess because she has no self-control. It’s an addiction to excess. The same with her shopping addiction. She’s doing what addicts do by trying to cover the holes in her life that make her miserable with temporary bandaids. And when the high wears off, she’s back to being miserable.

Spoiler: If I was going to play arm chair psychologist

...then I’d gamble on her bigger issue being what most victims of dysfunctional families suffer from—CPTSD. It’d further gamble on her being what Pete Walker calls a Fight or Freeze-type (or a hybrid of both because that is apparently also a thing) from the 4Fs of Trauma (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and that her coping mechanisms (eating and splurging) are simply a result of being neglected as a child and not being given the love she needed.

She cries for food because it gives her attention, thus she is loved. When she isn’t being fed, or given attention, she is unloved. She spends money on pointless shit that makes her happy, and makes some repressed part of her psyche happy, but it’s short-lived happiness. Her coping mechanisms don’t address the bigger problem, and thus she stays in a perpetual state of fat, bitter, misery.

Regardless, I think we all agree Amber’s eating is “disordered.” I think where we all disagree on what came first—the disorder or the eating; Is she fat because she has issues, or does she have issues because she’s fat? Who fuckin’ knows. She lies about whether or not the sun is out.
