I have a Luddite question. Instead of creating these big sites that die every few months, why doesn't somebody just develop a software based twitter-like RSS feed reader, and a website plugin that lets every asshole generate their own feed on their own domain? That way, it can't be toppled, and boomers and 14 year olds are btfo.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Torba, tbh. He invited this on himself by touting his platform as a "bastion" for free speech, and in the process, courting the types of people who want to say all the racial and religious epithets they want without retaliation. And even if Torba knew that something like this would have happened, he should have been damn well prepared ahead of time to reap the consequences.
Free speech, like many concepts in regards to government and civil discourse, sounds good in theory. However, if you truly want to stand up for free speech, you have to accept -not like or support, just accept- the fact that everyone has a right to say what they want: be it crazed lunatics who want to murder Jews, blacks who want to murder white people, troons who want to bash in the heads of cis people, and people who express their desires to fuck animals and/or diddle kids. I find all of those views abhorrent, but sometimes, being able to say those things and getting them off their chest is enough for most people. Now, whether or not they act out on those opinions/beliefs/sentiments... that’s another matter altogether.

I haven't seen his rants, but I don't think it's right to hate on Torba for his efforts. Gab proved that a hugboxes are boring as fuck and may make you hate the people you agree with more than the ones you disagree with. Free Speech is great, but it's boring when it is literally all the angry rants about blacks, muslims, mexicans and jews without any of the humor of pull. Everyone on there just seems really fucking mad and wants to signal how hardcore they are.
Gab was successful in creating an atmosphere of pure free speech, and it sounded like "nigger nigger nigger!" Maybe having some restriction is a good thing? (But not to the extent of Twitter is like now).

It's troubling to see how much speech is being restricted by monopolistic corporations that want to prevent unpopular views from being disseminated via anything that could be considered connected to them (KF has faced its own problems with this). Mostly because there's almost no other way to express such views in the current information infrastructure but to rely on certain large corporations. That said, this guy praying to Trump is hilarious. Maybe the problem with free speech advocates, like many libertarians, is that they tend to be a bit off. Most people are too worried about getting paid, laid, or flayed (if you're in the wrong part of the world) to be someone who spends their time worrying about the boundries of what is acceptable. So you get your Gary Johnsons.

Why do I think it's good they got deplatformed (at least temporarily)? Because they were banning people for speech and things they didn't agree with while saying they were a free speech platform. Generally, I enjoy the whole getting bit in the ass by what you start doing or actually do.
Why would I defend loli pictures? Because people are so exceptional that they don't look at history. Remember when the right were the moral police? When couples couldn't sleep in a bed together on television?
As soon as you give anyone an inch in regulating -anything- they aren't going to stop there. However, if you let something you hate (under the definition of free speech) get banned, removed, etc. the next thing is going to go, then the next thing. And, eventually, look where we are with the left. They're trying to get anime censored and banned.
Frankly, I want there to be as many front-lines to censorship of my own speech as there can be. Because if there are front lines between me and being censored? All the better. I'm not some damn moral-fag. I'm just someone who wants to be left the fuck alone. When Gab (a predominantly right wing platform) is starting to do the same shit I see on predominantly left platforms? I, immediately, am not happy. "Yeah, ban the lolis!" Few years later. "Ban the lewd pictures." Few years later. "Ban this thing I don't agree with." And the cycle just fucking repeats. You don't let them ban -anything- that is legal within the standards of free speech in the United States (where Gab's from) - period. The second you do, it will fuck you in a few years.
One reason why it pisses me off so much is I had something I grew up with that was primarily free-speech and gamer oriented just turn into an SJW circle-jerk fest because they thought they could make more money. Now the game is hemorrhaging and dying. So, yeah, censorship is the kiss of death. For fucking anything.
