His network Polaris/Maker hilariously elected to keep him at affiliate status, where he has since remained. Ironic that he railed against entities for only caring about cold hard cash above all else back then in 2013.
A moderate amount of fickle online personality success really did turn Joe into Corporate Commander.

It's really sad to see joe becoming a corporate pr guy since he was one of the very few big YouTubers that called out bullshit like destiny.

I understand that he's tired of the same video style he's making since 2007, but he should have more tact and ignore comments.

Avgn got himself thrown against the entire internet when he shat on Ghostbusters but he completely ignored it and it was forgotten in a month.

I never understood the appeal of Joe. He was always an AVGN clone to me, except Joe was more boring. I think if it weren't for TGWTG, he'd be lost in the shuffle. And his "Angry Joe Army" are more like autists than an army.

I think the toughest thing about documenting Joe as a cow is that nobody wants to really sift through his videos to pull up evidence. That's one of the big thing that separates Joe from DSP. They both do a lot of the same exact things, but there's SoK and other people willing to make compilations and stuff for Phil, or people with twitter accounts dedicated to reposting his idiocy.

A big difference is that DSP can fall into so bad it's good territory, while Joe's content is long, drawn out boring commentary interspliced with cowish behavior, but nobody has the stomach to sit through all that boring commentary to point out the funny parts. That's largely why the fans are so upset with Joe trying to switch into movie reviews and fucking trailer reviews. He'll stretch out a minute long trailer into a 20+ minute video. Some reviewers can actually pull this off, especially if they delve more into the franchise and find other things to talk about. But Joe has no improv skills whatsoever, and he is very bad with on the spot critical thinking and analysis. Just check out his interview with Geoff on (I think) page three to see that on display. To be fair, at least part of that was the environment, but he also just acts like that anytime he does anything unscripted.

That's why people liked his video game reviews so much, he actually sat down and scripted what he said. But like Joe said, that took hours of work. And that's Joe's problem, he doesn't want to treat YouTube like his job...but he is no way willing to get an actual job so YouTube can just go back to being a hobby. And that's where him being an entitled cow comes into play. He wants fans to give the exact same views and support to his unscripted movie/trailer/twitch streams that he himself have admitted take no effort and just involve him turning on a camera and struggling to come up with content to fill the time.

I think Joe has fallen into the same boat as DSP. He doesn't actually enjoy playing games anymore because it's become his job. Unlike DSP, he's actually trying to fix that by shifting into movie reviews. The weird thing is, I don't think he actually cares about those either. I think he likes watching movies and shows, but he doesn't appear to like talking about them because his content is shit. That's the biggest difference between his movie reviews versus Brad's midnight screenings. Everyone on Midnight Screenings loves talking about movies and they can actually analyze and apply some critical thinking. Even if you disagree, there's at least content there, while Joe's crap is basically just a synopsis of what happened, with little analysis beyond "this scene was cool" or "this scene was dumb." There's no substance because Joe just cannot do off the cuff commentary, he needs a script to be even remotely successful or entertaining.

You can easily make the argument that Angry Joe really didn't have a choice.

TGWTG threw in behind the Anti-GGers basically immediately, with pretty much everyone involved in Team Nostalgia Chick turning out to be gigantic direct supporters of Quinn and friends. Many on TGWTG supported and/or still support these clowns financially in the great incestual patreon donation circlejerk, and a large number can be found carrying the water of CON and the Rat Kings for good measure. While most know about Dan Olson's ill-starred attempt to plant CP on 8chan and Lindsay's shameless cheerleading of her fellow professional victims, it wound up hitting full burn with the like of Todd in the Shadows, who would go on to white knight Nyberg.

He was absolutely surrounded by Quinn's supporters, several of which were openly involved in the very doxing, harassment, and so on they were bitching about, is what I'm getting at here. You decide if you think that effected his judgment or not.

I, for one, am still laughing at his autistic squabbling with Bro Team Pill at the time. It made Nyberg rush to his defense.

I never got the appeal of his videos in the first place. It was just Channel Autism's knockoff of AVGN, but full of cringy skits, pointless cross-overs, and Joe himself acting more preachy-douchebag than legitimately angry.

Yeah, he would call out bad games and devs. But so would almost all other game reviewers. And they'd do it with a lot more thoughtfulness and/or humor.

And he kinda ruined his creditability when he started blatantly shilling for games that "Sponsor" him (Witcher 3 and Destiny 2 are the best examples of this, even though Witcher 3 is legit good).


Right now, it looks like he got "Scarlette'd", a-la Spoony. The similarities are amazing.

Some big-titted E-Nobody hooked up with him to boost her own career/get attention/leech money. Bloats his ego, decreasescontent quality, makes him lazy, pisses off his fans. Then she leaves when she realizes he's peaked and she's not getting anything else out of it.

Right now, he's doing the EXACT shit spoony did, refusing to make traditional reviews, preferring lazier, shittier stuff. Spoony did it via endless wrestling/current movie vlogs. Joe is doing it with Twitch Streams and...movie vlogs.

At this rate, we're a few months to a year away from a Spoony-style implosion. But where Spoony had a few hundred thousand fans, Joe (Somehow) has over 3 MILLION. So this implosion would be on a completely different level...

I am noticing with alot of these careercows that once they get tired of doing something they simply try to weasel their way towards something easier and lazier rather than simply quit while you have dignity. I would have no problem if Joe would say the hell with it and pulled the plug if he would retire with grace, but all these Youtubers want to have their cake and eat it and have failed to realize that it doesn't work that way, especially for some internet guy is a nobody in all practical terms.

On a side note, the shilling of Joe is what really made me take his reviews with a grain of salt, especially with Witcher 3. I also noticed the laziness when there wasn't a 2015 gaming controversies video when that year was ripe with them. Ultimately, I believe Joe to be a lazy hypocrite that wants a few more Denarii before his empire collapses and one hell of a collapse it will be.

One of the standout cow moments for me was a video Joe made near the end of 2016 talking about the state of his videos. He mentioned that people have suggested he removes the skits from the videos, because he had previously used the excuse of how long the skits take/how expensive the costuming is as a reason he doesn't do more videogame reviews. For anyone wondering, the skits suck, but they're generally short and only come up once or twice in the video, so they're very easy to skip over. Anyway, his excuse for keeping the skits is because if he took them out, there would be nothing for Other Joe to do in the videos. That was it. Not that he enjoyed making the skits or thought that they were funny, but it was apparently the only thing he could think of to justify keeping his friend on payroll.

Another one of the big failures of Joe's content is his...co-hosts I guess? I'm not even sure what to really call them because, in the videos I saw at least, they barely contribute anything. If they disagree with Joe, he just talks over them. All I ever saw them do in the few movie reviews was nod, and then seem very uncomfortable and put on the spot the moment that Joe did ask them for their opinion, in which case they would just agree with what he said, usually repeating word for word what Joe just got done saying.

I obviously can't confirm this, but I always got the impression that Joe and co. would see a movie, then discuss it among themselves afterwards/on the way back to Joe's to then record an episode. So effectively, they're having the same conversation twice which naturally makes it weaker because people don't like being that repetitive. Oh yeah, another thing for those unfamiliar with his style, he does two videos. One is with spoilers, and one is without. And it's not just him editing the review to take out spoilers, they film two completely different versions. So, again, they're having a repeated conversation among themselves which makes it feel even lower energy and effortless. You could also make an argument that splitting it up into two videos like that is blatantly an attempt to get more channel views, especially since the videos are really framed in a way where you watch the spoiler free one for a synopsis, then watch the spoiler one for more in depth content...except he never actually provides the in depth content and it's just more of an in-depth synopsis reading.

Well laziness is what happens when complacency sets in. Alot of these CA contributors that have earned audiences believe they are entitled to whatever they want for the prior work they put in, when they don't realize that entertainment is the line of work where you can sit on your mound of gold and do jack shit like some dragon. Greed, Social Justice, Sloth, and Pride seem to be the downfall of so many of these contributors.
