Looks like Nathaniel has deleted his X account. :story:

I wonder if it has anything to do with this recent situation of their fellow lolicon being sent real CP.
His other account is still up though and has recently been active on it, with him changing his profile picture and reposting pro-troon tweets.

UPDATE 3/15/25:
Apparently a day later, Nathaniel reactivated and went back to doing what he always does.

Recently he has been getting into Twitter-spats with randos regarding the recent Texas SB 20 that caused the Anime Pedophile Community to erupt in anger.

As someone who uses anilist, can't say I follow the mod or admin team, but it does not surprise me they're all troon loving benders.

What's super infuriating about the site is that it's the only modern replacement for MAL, which is a completely dogshit site with an archaic UI. AniDB also has an impenetrable UI. You have to ignore almost every social aspect of the site and just use it as a personal database. The forum are cancer, the users are all zoomer retards (In fact I got warned for calling something retarded). The good side effect of all of this though is how many of the users are degenerates who add everything to their list. You can find many people who actively update what porn they're consuming and see their rating/reviews. It's fascinating and hilarious.

Obviously the argument of "don't use these sites anime is gay" stands as a solid answer to all of this

Also, what's the point of Kitsu, since it appears to be only for making short reactions to anime? Anime-Planet also looks cleaner than AniList and MAL, and lists show and character tags, but I'm not sure how the features compare either. The lack of reviews on sites not called MAL is also a bummer too, but least that's part of why MAL is still going even with it's ancient backbones.

Am I an old fag or new fag that I never once thought to catalog the animes I've watched in a personal list. While I appreciate the website as a resources for production information on anime, never got why keeping a list like that is such a large part of the fandom. I know imdb and letterbox essentially does the same thing but they seem like such a niche culture compared to the anime space.

MAL keeps trucking through sheer spite. It's a Web 1.0 forum/list maker forced into the Web 2.0 format. It knows exactly what it is. It's old and cranky. Under the hood you KNOW it's code is kept together with duct tape and bubblegum. But it endurs because it's competition simply lacks features it's always had.

Personally, I want to be able to remember what I've seen or haven't seen (especially if I plan on getting a physical copy one day), and what episode I'm on for X show since I'm not going to always binge or be on a weekly schedule. Some people have kept a document open on their computer/phone for that reason, but it's convenient to just have something already at the ready for one or two clicks.

Also since I've seen a shit-ton of anime at this point, it's very helpful to just look back through the ratings and go "Oh yeah, this was shit", or "Huh, I apparently liked this odd obscure title back then, let's see if it still holds up". Most autists use it as a dick-measuring contest, though, which then makes you question if they're even being serious anime fans or just have a mean competitive streak. It gets even more pathetic if it's a coomer account (yes, there's a thousand titles of hentai).

Personally the reason I've used MAL/AniList was because it makes it easier to transfer progression across different piracy sites. A lot of piracy apps and website even have ways to link your account to one of these tracker websites and automatically update progression. So if their site ever gets shutdown because of DMCA then all you need to do is link your account to a new site and pickup your progress from there.

That being said, I really don't get the need to broadcast your entire watch history to random people on the internet.

Any weebnigger here using AniDb, or is everyone a zoomer or MALfaggot?

OK this is the most reasonable answer. I totally get why people do this, especially with how robust piracy is in anime.

Jesus Christ it took like a minute to scroll through those attachments on mobile, and I've got a wider phone than most. Good thread otherwise

i generally don't like anime or anything that has a similar aesthetic, idk it's just kinda offputting to me

if i need to remember what episode im on on a certsin show, i just memorize it, if i forget, then the show was trash anyway cuz it couldnt catch my attention

Kitsu was essentially the same thing as AniList, an alternative to MAL, but is now a barely functional shell of its former self. It even came out around the same time AniChart did (was called Hummingbird initally), and both partnered together.

Funny enough, the owner is also named Josh, this time a brown.

Viz Media and some Filipino named Bernard Chong would invest into the site, the latter who later would be involved in a drug smuggling case.
Josh would start up a new site called Metafy where you can pay to be coached by top ESports players. Metafy would get into controversy after releasing a documentary that featured notorious Smash-pedo Nairo. Josh would get into a Xitter-spat with Technicals over this, which resulted in him making a video on it.

MAL has an option to set your watch history as private, I think, but I'm not sure if the other tracking sites have that option.
AniList does too but I think it's public by default, don't know about the other ones but assume their the same as well. I only found out after I saw my username appear on their dumb social feed.
