💼 Careercow Anthony Cumia - A once successful radio host crashes and burns, turning on all his fans and the drama around it

Has anyone (Sam more specifically since I guess he's the only one left) done Jocktober the last few years? I think the one clip I ever saw from Jim and Sam was them debating if they should do it, or maybe they ended up doing it for the day as an excuse to bring up Opie or someone else close to the show, but I couldn't be bothered to finish the clip or look for any more. I know Karl from WATP rips it off and focuses on radio shows in October, but 1 show a week ain't good enough even if he wasn't a complete douche.
Jim and Sam couldn't do a Jocktober because they couldn't find any clips more unlistenable than what they were already putting out on the air.

Jocktober has become one of the more poorly aged bits from ONA. One of the issues with it is that it suffered from what you see in a lot of online drama today. It is fun to dunk on somebody when they actually deserve to be taken down a notch and are assholes. It is a lot less funny when you are trying to start shit with people who never before interacted with you or are relatively normal human beings. You instead come across looking like the aggressor in the situation and are starting drama for no other reason than for content purposes.

It isn't like there are absolutely zero funny moments from these segments over the years, but looking back now I just don't find a lot of it to be entertaining. It was especially ironic given how they lectured people on how to put on an entertaining radio show when in real life their own show collapsed due to all the backstage drama and none of them can produce a funny show now and days to save their life.
Jocktober also doesn't hold up because broadcasting has largely become an amateur pursuit - it's an alien concept now to think of "broadcasters" as "real professionals" when 99.9% of consumed content these days (Twitch, Youtube, Spotify) is done in a dingy makeshift studio or a bedroom contained in a house.

It's not quite true because there are still some radio programs that have not yet translated into streaming/podcasting. Sports talk shows are still big on FM. Conservative talk radio is still huge, which is not helped by the absolute retardation of right-wing podcasters (e.g. Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, etc). Even stuff like NPR has a niche because their staff finds unique stuff and has meaningful connections in the business (especially indie music) to that end. I am pro-Trump but listen to NPR and its affiliates (especially KEXP) for indie music.

In a very real way, terrestrial radio gatekeeps retards who flourish, crash, and then burn in the streaming/podcasting/influencer industry all the time. You have to be able to hold down a regular job to exist in regular radio and that means not doing shit like drinking 24/7, talking about your fetishes on social media every day, shouting gamer words, or saying outlandish stuff like "Erika Kirk killed her own husband."

Also: radio is free. We have now entered the retardo realm where online people want your money and that is enough to deter some potential listeners.

think all your points are valid, but I still listen to and enjoy Jocktober. Some were better than others, for sure, but I think they're funny because of how unreasonable and mean O&A and the Pests were
Let's not forget how mean they were to Terry Clifford, whose son was the O&A Reddit moderator who reported that she was abused online so badly that she would come home in tears.

I remember being 18 around that time, listening to it on the air, at the height of my immaturity and rudeness, and even I thought they were being too much. Though it was hilarious in hindsight.

I felt the worst for the Terry Clifford Beatings because their show was not bad. They didn't do prepburger, they didn't have dead air, they didn't do fugitive bits, they didn't do retarded bits at all (no gender wars, no trivia contests for Annie Jr tickets), and they didn't do stunts. Everyone on the show liked each other and would even rib each other. I remember their Shelby clone making quite a few jokes at Terry's expense.

But the Terry Clifford Beatings were also savage and funny. Even Patrice said it was unreasonable. At least Terry survived and got to retire, unlike Opie & Anthony. The Pests also gave her a nice send-off by mass nominating her for the Country Radio Hall of Fame. She didn't win, but she was in the running and thanked everyone who nominated her.

Her son being a mod on the subreddit was fucking insane. Wease did get through to Opie and, in later beatings, he would sit out or try to defend her a little bit.

The Bee Morning Coffee Club caught the attention of O&A because they beat the O&A show in some local radio popularity contest that was put on by some Rochester newspaper. But the contest was rigged as the pests had O&A leading by ten times as many votes. The newspaper editor was clearly not an O&A fan so he just declared that the O&A show lost the vote. The revenge for this was beating the shit out of Terry Clifford (and this was before Jocktober was a thing).

It's sort of fitting. Every young person, at least men, who grew up with parents who worked in radio probably listened to Opie and Anthony.

O&A site down for everyone else?

Yes

THE FUCKING THING SUCKS

on the day that DAHNNNN MULLENS posted some legit kino, I had no place to shitpost

I actually had to work at my johb
I was talking with nastytwp about the Anthony / StuJo lolsuit during his gaming stream and then Emily popped up with another delusional "HI OPIE! 😂" post. Site went down then after.

Their pay cheque must be fucking light to still be on the radio in 2026.
If they are a heritage morning show in a decently sized market like Cincinnati, and are #1 in the ratings or at least in the top 5, they are probably making decent money, even in 2026. For example, look at Milwaukee, which is only a little bit smaller than Cincinnati. Bob and Brian have been #1 in the morning for, I think, almost the entire nearly 40 years that they have been on the air. Everybody and their mother listens to those guys in that market, it's just part of the routine. I heard from a reliable source that they are both millionaires and I believe it.

Sam is corporate enough to avoid doing anything fun that could get him fired, which is part of why his show isn’t worth listening to. Sirius was tired of the Bbboys and the headaches they caused between Opie’s whining about management and not signing his contracts until the 11th hour and Anthony’s open and honest discussions on race. They were looking for any reason to get rid of the show. Sam, from what I’ve seen, keeps it nice and PG-13 so all the celebrities can do his show, and he does whatever they tell him to do at a fraction of the price. Let’s be honest though, O&A were about done anyways. Even if Anthony hadn’t fought a black prostitute that fateful evening, they resented each other and weren’t able or willing to pull a Stern. “Hoohoo, Robin I was playing a character for the last three decades. I’ve always been woke.”

It was also really funny how Sam would torture Opie and Anthony by doing constant fugitive bits
I don't know what's more torturous, the fugitive bits themselves or Opie saying "Fugchewtive"

Speaking of...
