They used to do the same in the states 10-15 years ago or so, at least in some states. I don't know why they changed that, it's all kinds of sad.

It's part of the general anti-intellectualism that has been part of the US since it's founding. Science and education are looked upon by a good chunk of the population with suspicion and hostility, sometimes religious-based and sometimes not. It's only gotten worse with the arrival of the "Mah Feelz!" generation.

It's easy to see it when it's religious-based and literally expressed as actual hostility to science and education. It's perhaps even more pernicious when it's dressed up as being "scientific" itself, while actually being hogwash.

If you are having second thoughts about vaccinating your child:

Go speak to every doctor you know. Not just your own doctor. Your friends, family, neighbours who are doctors. People on Facebook. Friends of friends on Facebook. Every doctor you can track down somehow. Speak to them all. Ask them just the one question - "Did you vaccinate your children?"

That should settle the question for you.

If you still have doubts, get in touch with me. I will put you in touch with my grandmother. She will show you the only pictures she has of her two little brothers, dead at two and four from measles. Then she will smack you round the ear and explain to you how fucking lucky you are to live in a time and place where common, highly infectious viral diseases don't kill your little children, or leave them deaf and blind, or paralysed. This happened within living memory. How quickly we have forgotten.

It won't work. They'll just say the doctors are puppets of big pharma/the NWO/Satan, and that the boys died from lack of vitamins/colonic cleansing/prayers. Reason doesn't work on those who are by definition unreasonable.

I also fear that they'll also use adult lolcows, i.e. ADF, CWC, Nick Bate, or StrikerWolf1, as an example of the "dark side" of getting vaccinated. Then again, I don't know how effect an anti-vax campaign based around those sick individuals would be, given that they aren't that known outside of the internet. Maybe they would use an infamous person in history or currently, maybe citing Osama Bin Laden's terrorism from autism "caused" by a vaccine.

The anti-vax movement is driving many parents who can afford it straight into private schools. With these comparatively richer parents who otherwise would not have gone to private schools gone, the public school system gets a little bit worse. So you could say that even if their kids don't infect anyone, they're still making the world a worse place.

I recently had to deal with an idiot relative who was refusing to vaccinate her 1 year old (the relative is also a vegetarian, feeds her cat a vegetarian diet, and thinks Hillary and Tumblr are the best things since sliced bread, but that's another story). Everyone in my family who went to college insisted that she get the child immunized, but she still refused.

I'd known she was dumb, but I had no idea she was that dumb until recently, so I showed her this NOVA documentary.

There's a few scenes of an infant coughing uncontrollably due to a preventable disease. That changed her mind about vaccinations real quick. I'd recommend showing this to anyone you know who is this dumb.
Even if it's just watching a documentary, it's a good idea to get the people you care about educated on these subjects. A little knowledge is better than none.

A genuine tard cultist wouldn't be convinced by anything at all, so she's a cut above that.

It basically required the combined pressure of everyone in the family (including her husband) to get her to cave. The documentary just contributed to her education, and helped push her over the edge, because, like most morons, she'll believe anything on a TV. But, sometimes you really can get a moron to change their mind. It just takes a lot of work, and you really have to care.

Nice job changing her mind on vaccinations! Good for you.
Now, inform her that cats are strict carnivores and if they don't eat meat, they will go blind before dying a horrible death. What she is doing is actually classified as animal abuse.

It's alright. I can predict every anti-vaxxers response for you right now:

"The results were forged by the medical-industrial complex* to humiliate people who just want to see the truth and to discredit our beliefs."

*actual phrase once used to describe the big bad conspiracy behind vaccinations

They'll probably blame GamerGate for causing a chain reaction (as in Final Destination series chain reactions that cause deaths) that incidentally led to that finding. Whether the anti-GG movement is also Anti-Vax is another story though.

Nah, even fat activists hate anti-vaxxers, so Anti-GG probably supports vaccinations too.

Oops, posted a link to a different article about the same study the anti-vax group didn't like the answer to. Sorry about that.

That flow chart thing posted earlier this page made me lol. "Why do I has to get flu shotted each year?" with literally no response.

Lol. Because the flu virus mutates constantly? The strain you caught last year will almost never be the same strain you catch next year, and scientists are trying to cover a wider and wider range of mutations whilst also being on top of which are the most common/dangerous and trying to make vaccines safer for the tiny minority of people who have adverse reactions to them.

And yes, vaccines absolutely HAVE eradicated several diseases, in the countries where they were widely vaccinated against. You can't eradicate a disease completely if people don't vaccinate, unless so many people do that herd immunity completely destroys it.

Their definition of 'vaccine' seems to be 'miracle cure to a widespread disease that you only ever need one time and will never need ever, ever again because your body produces sufficient antibodies the first time'. Apparently the failure to find a cure for the flu or common cold isn't that they're constantly mutating and not everyone gets inoculated, it's because Big Pharma and they WANT you sick!

Finally, the reason this generation's life expectancy has dropped slightly is because of an increase in obesity and all the issues that come with it. Might want to mention that. But sure. If a guy has a measles shot and later gets hit by a car and dies it means vaccinations don't work and make you sick.

Yes I heard about that. This generation will be the first in the history of the world that has a shorter life expectancy than their parents. Convenience, constant entertainment at the click of a button, and all the food you can eat with little to no effort is what's causing it. Basically, sitting around watching TV for hours on end and constantly munching on snacks.

Oh noes, Sesame Street has been taken over by Big Pharma!!!! The show is going to have a new character with Aspergers Disorder. (Not big deal, it's not like the show hasn't had people with various ailments over the years. Even when I was a kid there was Linda, who was deaf. And that was over thirty years ago.)

Okay, we make fun of people with autism but mostly adults who act like asshats, not people with autism in general. And Sesame Street has always done this kind of thing, so it's nothing new. And even if that is stupid, who the hell freaks out over a freaking puppet? I swear, these people want to go back to the days when we shuffled our disabled relatives away into the attic, and told people they were dead.

Not actually true.
