Are things just slow around here regarding lolcows and lolcow based activity right now, or is it just me?

Site traffic is definitely down since #DropKiwiFarms. It used to be 5000-6000 active users (both lurkers and logged in accounts) any time I was logged in before the campaign.
I suspect part of this decline was due all the people who got locked out of their accounts during the password reset and when new registrations were disabled following the hack. #DropKiwiFarms predicted that KF would lose 75% of users because of that. It was more like 50% but still a good chunk. #DropKiwiFarms knew that KF had lost a number of its users during the previous hack&leak, so that was their intent with the hack: to scare people away.
You are right in the lower traffic angle, but I think the issue is larger.

The website was 503'd for a very significant amount of time, and pages lost positions or were taken out of the index altogether. This combined with the fact that Google is increasingly pro active about defamation, disinformation and privacy rights (especially in the EU). I see a very bleak SEO future for the farms, unfortunately. No amount of optimization or engagement can circumvent a blacklisting.

Although this is an estimation, and @Null probably has more accurate data on Search Console, the tools I used estimated the organic traffic on KF to have collapsed from 300K/month to barely 70K today.

People seeing threads in Google about cows they know must be a significant driver, if anything, just to reignite interest in threads. When this is lost, even the most active user base starts to get bored.

I feel a lot of it is because the atmosphere is a lot angrier on the site nowadays and Keffals attempting to wipe the Farms off the face of the planet didn't help. The Thunderdome aside a lot of cows are more known for the heinous shit they've done rather than the funny autistic flailing cows are known for. In fact you could say some lolcows have become Serious Business. Is it possible to return to the more "hey look at this retard let's laugh at them" mindset the old internet had? Possibly, but it's tricky in this climate.

My advice is to go find an older lolcow thread and remember all the funny things they did for the sake of arrogance over the years. It won't fix the problem but you'll have a good time.

There has also been a continuing FUD campaign on Twatter itself, with many active #DropKiwiFarms making it seem like LE is on the verge of cracking down on KF, arresting Joshua Moon, arresting KF users. Keffals openly threatened to get young KFers kicked out of school for participating here and personally targeted and failfoxxed a young KF. This coupled with all the open threats from #DropKiwiFarms to target KFers IRL, open threats which continue to this day (this was the most recent one I archived):

Understandably, all these continued threats levelled at KFers have made some of them reluctant to return to the site. Which is exactly what #DropKiwiFarms set out to achieve.

I suspect a lot of the TERFs who were active on Twatter have since moved back to Twatter now that it's more amendable to them. I am saying this based on reduced activity in both the TERFs thread itself and the Trannie Social Media thread.

Until the cabin fever sets in.

I think a lot of kids will end up here during their Christmas vacation when they're free from school.
The issue for these retards wanting to create their own “Kiwifarm” is that that would require us to humiliate ourselves and post it on the internet. They’d also have to develop a sense of humor.

I've heard the theory that lolcows are a "Web 1.0 phenomenon", which is why it seems they're going the way of "bronies" and/or the fedora'd neckbeard "euphoric" atheists.

(the "Millennial" lolcows who gained noteriety in the 00s and early 10s at least)
That theory kinda falls apart when you consider most lolcows are known from their YouTube channels. Even Chris-chan was discovered by way of a video

Why can't we just go back to the way the internet was 10 years ago?
To get that back, "social media" would have to not be a huge thing anymore.

YT started in 2005. But I still doubt that there will never be any more lolcows ever again.

Winter is a time where it's harder to go outside. Southern lolcows may still be active, but most are fat and hibernating until the very end of the year, where family drama and Christmas specials create fun dumb events. Then the New Year rolls around, and someone decides it is time for a change and reveals someone causing drama behind the scenes and people come home from vacations with retarded stories and renewed vigor.

For now, muh mentals for all cows are lowered, stress happens as those with jobs (both cows AND farmers) work twice as hard due to retail crunch/holiday work/weather, and we all take the time to focus off site a little. Once Christmas proper happens and we have more of a break, college assholes and few others will sign up and usually things pick up a little before relaxing a bit again mid January-February.

You also have to remember people don't realize the site is even alive. Literally, check any twitter thread and some people will be surprised we never left. There's only now members signing back up after the great reset too. Some won't come back because they realize they don't feel like being on anymore, and that's not a bad thing either, just humans moving on.

Man I miss the TERFs that would frequent the threads. It was great having that kind of diversity you don't get elsewhere
We'll probably have another great TERFening, nothing too radical has happened for women and troons right now. The more accessible spaces there are for normies, the better for now, so it's not a complete loss and they'll have tweet to tweet combat instead.

To be fair, there's always been a-logs. OrdonZedd outing himself as an oldfag who likes keffals was a good reminder that we always had serious business tards who trollshielded. I'd say Null takes his time banning people now and lets the autism thunderdome fester since it brings in some really bizarre people to argue and laugh at and arguing over people tardraging is one fun aspect of cowdom for some people.

That's the spirit.

Classic lolcows interest changes, even Chris changed when you think about it. So we'll get different patterns as people are raised throughout the years when you think about it.

OrsonZedd was the most fun cow of the year for me, but he's getting to be a rare breed. It takes a remarkably stupid person to have an internet history going back 20 years that never learned that maybe, Maybe, MAAAAAAYBE it's a bad idea to use an identity tied to your real one for your creepy underage hentai. On top of him plastering his fat face all over his social media, and sperging out RIGHT HERE ON KIWI FARMS over fuckin' Keffals, of all people.

To anyone reading this who missed the OrsonZedd thread, it's right here, and it's a great time.

We never had consistent 5000 user days. We were breaking 4000 consistently before downtime. We've lost about 33% of traffic and post velocity.

The site is always slower at the end of the year. Always.
Not sure if that's TMI, but can you share how the SEO was affected, if it was?

From what I am seeing these past few months when it comes to updates, I imagine KF is suffering quite a bit on this front. Am I wrong?

It's probably been said a bunch of times before, but I think multiple outages during September/October, the forced password reset, and restricting registrations all contributed to a decrease in site activity.

I use Similarweb to view statistics for websites. It does show interesting statistics, I'm not sure if all of it is completely accurate.

Well, there's been the normal attrition of members simply moving on, and then the Keffals kerfuffle forcibly locking some members out, or putting some off. If you couple this with the fact that registrations have been closed for significant periods over the year, then you can see that most movement has been one way, and the Farms has a weird year for normal website member churn, as it were.
When registrations open up the injection of new blood will be turbulent, but with any luck fun as well, and hopefully after that everything will be able to settle back to some sort of normal, as long as everyone has a bit of patience.

Most of the popular lolcows are just on hiatus right now. Chris is in jail, Ethan Ralph fucked off to somewhere in Mexico, DSP and Wings have been stale for years, Keffals finally got chased off the Internet, Yaniv has been inactive, Breadtube hasn't done anything too entertaining lately, etc...

Some cows are producing decent milk though. Chantal's Kuwait Adventures are pretty entertaining. Ethan Klein and Fatrick can always be trusted to say something retarded. Nick's board has been very active lately and the Kanye arc is hilarious, but the threads there are infested by A&H wignats alogging.

TikTok is a thing and the crazies there are something else. We might not have quality Lolcows like Chris anymore but well make up with it in quantity
There is so much untapped potential in Tiktok cows. I'm not a huge user of Tiktok, yet I can see that there is so much milk to be had. Too bad not too many here use Tiktok. Also, many prominent Tiktok lolcows are under 18.
