The only reason 1976 was so bad is that the US prevented the virus from actually spreading in the country. If the virus actually got a foothold, it probably would have saved lives. The inactivated virus used in that vaccine can't cause any more damage than the actual replicating virus, so if everyone was going to infected without the vaccine, the vaccine would be a good idea, because it would at least prevent some pneumonia and things like that.

They could have just worked harder on a vaccine that wasn't so dangerous or, in the least, should have told people of the risk.
They did neither, and let's not forget that vaccines aren't just pro bono work. I'm pretty sure it was the same for '76 as it is today: vaccines are a business, and while that isn't bad in itself, the way BigPharma and the Gov. runs its business is.

Well, sure, but they now have an actual consent form and information about GBS and have implemented a compensation program. The problem of GBS varies from year to year, but they never eliminated it. I don't think the compensation program *currently* covers the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, but that's only on a technicality due to recommendations on non-emergency use not being fully worked out yet. If there was a major problem years later, I think it would retroactively apply.

The flu which was brought up by some shithead in this topic have a different variations. Mentioned viruses by me are more/less deadly than COVID-19. Research shows that not properly treated flu can lead to heart issues. Would you classify this death for flu or heart problems?

Again, even if 10% of infected 30.000 are having respiratory issues and requires medical aid it makes 3.000 people per day landing in hospital beds. Make it even less. Let it be 2-3% and still you get additional 600-700 people in need in contrary to regular day in world without COVID-19. We are talking about people who need oxygen, ventilators or in the most grievous cases ECMO.
