Jon never would have lasted doing let's plays. He doesn't like making quick garbage like Arin, he would rather take his time. A stoner works pretty well, Dan can at least be counted on to sit there and laugh at everything.
Jon was also aware that he is not good at improv and being entertaining on the fly. He knows he's better at scripted comedy.

I dunno how off the cuff this was but it was pretty funny
I'd probably have watched a show of Jon just drunkenly trying to play games

But yeah, it became readily apparent that there was a difference in ethos between Jon and Arin. Jon's always said that he aims to make every episode of JonTron better than the last one, whereas Arin's shit has always been pretty low effort. I think if going full retard hadn't already upset the Sequelitis apple cart he would've abandoned it eventually anyway. Arin once said that the reason he did the animated asides was because he wanted to get on camera, but he didn't have a good enough camera and didn't like the way he looked when he filmed himself. So he said to himself 'I'll just draw me' and then complained this added like a month of work to the whole thing.

Jon was 22-23 and arin was 25-26.
You're right, as far Jon is concerned. But Arin, who I was mostly thinking of, was in his mid-to-late twenties. Also, isn't Dan even older than those two? He's even worse

In any case, I concede your point that I probably find them hard to rewatch because I outgrew them. But it isn't because they act like people in their early twenties and I no longer am. Look at their humour: loud noises, yelling, burping, farting, the nigger word, jokes/anecdotes about piss and shit. It's because these are a pair of children. Then when Jon left, Dan took over and Arin started bowing to the SJW mob and putting trigger warnings about the place and going 'oh, sorry if that offended you', they got even worse, because the only type of humour you're allowed to do that won't offend the SJW mob is jokes involving bodily functions

If thats true about Jon, he's gonna need to explain like the last 10 videos hes made because all of those are pretty low effort.

I'd disagree that they went downhill. See, talking about how Arin went full retard for his Ocarina Sequelitis led me to rewatch it, which in turn led me to thinking 'Holy shit, he'd really hate Dark Souls or something like that' when he complained that Ocarina's combat requires you to wait.

So, I looked up whether or not he'd ever played it on Game Grumps and I came across him and Jon playing Demon's Souls. After not watching them for many, many years, I watched it and thought to myself 'Holy shit, this was never good. Even with Jon'. Watching them play Demon's Souls was so painful and so annoying that I honestly started to wonder how it was that I managed to stomach them night after night whenever it was (ten years ago?)
I haven't watched GG in years and I kind of don't want to revisit them now because I don't know what would be worse: if I didn't find them funny anymore, or if I still found them funny. The former might not be as bad but honestly, as corny as it sounds, the Sonic 06 playthrough will always have a special place in my heart. I used to rewatch the whole series every year, even years after unsubbing, until they started deleting videos and I didn't want to support them anymore. The video they did on the Deadspace 3 demo is still the funniest sponsored video I've ever seen. Nickelodeon Guts sparked the debate of a generation. So I choose to live in my land of delusion and just say that everything was better 11(!!) years ago.

I will say that even though they might have always been immature, there's no way late 2016-2018 GG was comparable to Jon/Arin GG. There's a fine difference between calling their viewers cumfaggots once at the end of a video and Arin screaming MAY PUSSAYYY every single video of every playthrough ever.

He was pretty funny in both videos he had with Internet Historian, and those were both improv vids. He just needs to be put with someone who he has good chemistry with, I guess.

Got bored at work and started listening to old GG stuff when Jon was there. It's sort of fun because now I'm noticing all the little uncomfortable moments. Weird little arguments, not getting each others jokes, things like that. They don't happen all the time, but they are consistent. Usually they yell something random and funny to break the tension. I do wonder when exactly Jon decided he was done with this crap and ready to jump on a plane.

Makes me think of this moment from Sonic '06, paraphrased because it's from memory:
J: "Remember when we used to be friends... outside of... [Game Grumps]?"
A: "Woah, that's too real!"
J: "I meant to make a different joke, I swear *furiously backpedals*"

I've watched a lot of people who do scripted reviews try to branch out into streaming or other formats and Jon's easily one of the better ones.

Apparently the gayretardedniggerfaggot animated .5 seconds in a Dragon Ball Z animation jam based on the American/Canadian "Rock the Dragon" intro after nearly a decade of sucking his own dick on a microphone while shitting up several Way forward-developed games. (At around 0:49-0:50 seconds into the video)

And yes, that animation sticks out a fucking mile long compared to everyone else's, with the comments section on the video predictably riding Arin's dick for less than a second of shitty animation of Goku running towards the one edge of the screen like in the original intro.

Lol. Everyone else is doing a little sequence but Arin's animation genuinely feels unfinished. Goku is running, for no reason, and then before we find out where he's going it just cuts off.
For comparison, Rubber Ross also seemed to contribute to this as well (14 seconds in), and while it's probably just as short, it completes the whole sequence of Krillin firing a destructo disc.

It's retraced from a shot from the third DBZ movie, "Tree of Might", which was when he was knocked back from a strike from a rampaging Oozaru Gohan while also fighting Turles at the base of the aforementioned tree.

... Though, Arin's animation looks even fucking worse than the film's, oops.

I'm not sure if anyone here noticed this but semi-popular Youtuber GillyTheKid just randomly posted this meme fairly lightly poking fun at Arin and, he urged people not to run with it but, people have just fucking run with it super hard.

I'm anticipating a forced apology after some Game Grumps ninjas attack his home
