Thanks to @OmnipotentStupidity for updating this thread so much and with such quality posts. I read all your 2020 round up stuff, it's great.
Thanks, but in this particular case: the Game Grumps Summary was not done by me. I just reposted NotBlarg's stuff for easier reading/archival purposes. He's the guy you should be thanking. Now if only he wasn't on Plebbit, then we'd be in business.

I started watching GG from the beginning, being both a fan of Jon and a fan of Ego from his Newgrounds days. As for when I stopped watching... I remember going away for a bit (Around 2016-2017) and coming back to like two weeks worth of uploads but when i put them on it was borderline unwatchable. Not out of terribleness, it was just bland and uninteresting. It was like that for a whle afterwards, just painully boring series playing games I had no interst in. Doodle doods was the only thing I went out of my way to watch and after that was over it was back to more sub-feed clogging. What made me finally unsubscribe was getting in an argument on the subreddit over the paper mario game and Arin's attitude which resulting in me getting banned and me ultimately unsubscribing.
From what I can gather regularly moniotirng this thread, It only got worse since.

Question for everyone in the thread: do you still watch Game Grumps?

If not, when did you stop and when was it made apparent to you they've declined in quality? Ever watch any old episodes? If you had to, which ones? As a fun bonus question, why do you check in on this thread?
Not anymore. The first few months of Jon Era Grumps I was invested, but only with Goof Troop, Megaman 7, ALTTP, some GG Vs. and about half of the Sonic '06 playthroughs until just checking in on occasion. Currently rewatching Goof Troop.
It wasn't until Jon left is when I just checked out completely. A few years later a friend mentioned they were doing a OoT playthrough and since the Zelda Sequelitis left a bad taste in my mouth I had to watch it. Lo' and behold, in a shocking twist surprising no one with common sense, Arin embarrassed, contradicted, and destroyed the absolute fuck out of himself. Haven't watched anything from them since. Couple years later after that I heard they were doing a Majora's Mask playthrough and it was eye-rolling at that point.

The only noticeable decline in GG's quality, not as a """company""", but entertainment-wise, to me, is Dan's chemistry with Arin compared with Jon's is...dull, for a lack of a better term. Dan's reserved, Yes-man attitude is just a turn-off though his roasts towards Arin's retardation are "DAY-UM!" inducing, they're few and far between.
I got curious if the Farms had a thread on him since I've recently felt a bit depressed 🌸👓nostalgic👓🌸 when going back and watching Girlchan in Paradise (RIP in peace) and watching Arin's old livestreams. Reading through about 200 pages of this thread, reading GG's mishaps, contradictions, DingDong's doxxing over a damn opinion and what a bootlicking, corporatist cuck Arin has become is just downright soul crushing. I had a feeling since witnessing the Sr.Pelo drama a couple years ago and getting ripped on by Oney, Spazzkid, etc. that Arin had changed, but this thread, man...*sigh*

I guess the only reason I check in is to see how far Arin can drag himself down further and hoping maybe, just maybe he'll come back around. Though by then, if he did, and assuming GG dies and he won't bother to touch animation/artwork ever again, it'd be much too late and he'll most likely fade into obscurity.

Since we're discussing it anyways, might as well post both parts of the Game Grumps 2020 Summary here as a refresher for those just joining the thread.
I was also gonna spoiler the posts themselves and add them in here but they were apparently so long that it actually exceeded the Farms' word limit, so apologies if I have to doublepost with JUST the summaries, but in this case it's actually necessary in order for it to go through.
EDIT: Never mind, I have to triple post, because even just uploading the two of them together is causing issues. FUCK me.

NotBlarg has also said that they're hesitant in doing another summary for next year or for future years due to getting completely burnt out on things from the Grumps and no longer finding Grumps hlding his interest as much as they did. However, he did note that he may end up coming back if things get really fucking crazy. But if he's gone for good, then all I can say is: Semper Fi, NotBlarg, your no-bullshit non-autistic cataloging helped this thread more than you could ever know.
:semperfidelis:

On a related note: he also revealed that he'd been keeping screenshots from years back of this old 4chan AMA with someone who people thought to be RicePirate. No one 100% confirmed it was him, and I don't remember if this was posted already, but adding it to the thread for posterity can't hurt.

This entire /v/ AMA really hits a lot different given everything that's happened in the past 2 years, and how spot on some of that guy's predictions were. If it wasn't RicePirate or anyone else within their friend group then they had the foresight of a fucking god. Because holy shit.

EDIT: Added the posts and archives, spoilering below in case both happen to go down, so it's cataloged in the actual thread.

It's strangely reassuring that this AMA person (assuming they're telling the truth) confirms that Suzy is just as awful a person as people assume she is and it's not just a misconception based off of a couple of ill phrased tweets/that etsy scandal.

I would also be genuinely curious what AMA person would think of Dan currently (seeing as they saw him as being very humble at the time of that AMA).

Thinking on this, I think part of what made the Grumps work back then was the lack of competition. I'm sure it existed, and I can safely say some of the channels/personalities that were probably around then but were much smaller are now significantly larger than the Grumps themselves. I think Twitch taking off especially killed my interest in Grumps. It opened up the floodgate of "people having fun while playing games as a backdrop". But, unlike Grumps, the conversation wasn't stale, and they were playing games they were legit interested in and didn't just spend 30 minutes failing to grasp basic gaming concepts.

Honestly don't think it was 100% intentional but starting GG was pretty ingenius. Take two popular internet personalities, have them play largely nostalgia-bait games, format it so it pleases the YouTube algorithm at the time - not to mention better AdSense during that era... If they'd made it only a few years later and Arin was able to convincingly appear smart I'd call it a blatant, pandering cash-in. But since they were early enough and both (? IIRC) claimed to want to use the channel to fund their other projects, they got a pass and then some.

It's so easy to see an alternate timeline where Arin's just a little bit less retarded, retires Game Grumps once Jon leaves and goes back to animating (or at least doing art), takes cushy VA jobs and ends up sitting pretty on a pile of money and long-time internet respect, living a humble, artistically fulfilling life. Kinda like literally all the other big name Newgrounds peeps.
Guess you gotta know when to hold em and fold em instead of milking a cow until its udders go necrotic.

Lack of competition and the sheer amount of content they produced every day. They used to put out three videos every day for like, three or four years. I ended up watching Game Grumps by default, just because I had tapped out the other channels I enjoyed. They weren't always winners, even in their heyday, but 30+ minutes of new content every single day was enough to keep me watching.

Oh yeah, this was a big part of it too. Now that you mention it, I think when I finally stopped watching them, part of the reason was I realized I was just watching every day because I had naturally worked it into my schedule as opposed to actually wanting to see the next video. From what I've seen of other people posting video links, it looks like they moved away from the daily 10-15ish minute videos and started doing longer stuff, which I also think works against them. Part of why it was so easy to schedule in their older videos was the short length. It was good to throw on when you just needed to decompress and figure out what you actually wanted to do with the rest of your evening.

My only major takeaway from this thread is that GG has some semi decent anime artists who could have successful careers outside of GG drawing hentai or sfw stuff but are stuck drawing "Female versions" of their bosses for horny teens and the occasional 20 to 30 year old guy to beat off too and make r34 of.

EDIT: I am 100% sure if their fanbase was on average over the age 16 and mostly male they would sell sex toys with lewd art of their "female versions" on the boxes , they already sell boobie mouse pads which are just entry level sex toys.

It's been a few years since I watched them regularly, but it was only within the last year or so that I finally got around to unsubscribing. I think the Grumps Dream Course series was the last one that I enjoyed.

Despite that, I still get videos on my front page from their GrumpOut channel, which apparently now serves as a "Best Of" clip show of bits that a hundred other channels have uploaded before.

Is the break over now? (Arin replying to the vid of Trump telling everyone to go home yesterday)

Also stole it from seeing it on my twitter feed from this guy

Naturally he pops out from his self-imposed time off to virtue signal. Can't have that someone might think he has something other than the popular opinion!

I'm so glad we got the token Arin mad response from all of this. The dude is absolutely so predictable.

Didn't need to second guess about posting this one since it's not about Black people, right Arin?

Oh-no, internet personality man said orange man bad on twitter, that will fix everything.
The world would be an infinitely better place if people in entertainment, professional and internet, would just shut the fuck up and make content.
