fair, personally i think he animates better than most people who call themselves animators moving the white blobs around at 2 frames a second, and id rather 4chan humor then reddit and arins style of shit fart dicks every 10 seconds.

I heard the news and wanted to see what kind of stretch goals they are offering. But it turns out they didn't they don't have any.

I know it's on brand for them to half ass shit, but when it's your future income, maybe come with ideas first before pitching yourself.
 
Why is it not surprising that they've completely hidden how much money is being gained? (I mean, I know why. People are less inclined to give money when they see you're making a shit ton already)

Only after they start gaining sub-200k views and losing so much money did they decide to finally open up a Patreon. …Still half-assing it to the bitter end.

It's not unique to them, most content creators that have a Patreon do the same. I'm more interested as to why they decided to hide the amount of patrons they have?

Likely for the same reason. Given they can't hide what amounts you can donate, knowing they have Y donors infers they make at least Y×1.00$. It's all scummy shit being done to maximize how much they earn.

Don't donate to any patreon that doesn't tell you how much they make. If they're hiding it it means they make sufficient money already.
 
Hiding the Patreon total is typically counterproductive because people making voluntary donations to YouTubers value transparency, but in the Grumps' case it'll just make it obvious that Arin's pissing it all away somewhere.

The channel is big enough they shouldn't need a Patreon; Let's Plays are cheap to make because realistically the only people who should need a cut are the talent appearing in the videos, and -maybe- an editor if you're really too fucking lazy to sync up some audio and cut out the odd bit of dead air. If Arin didn't insist on hiring everyone he knows to do nothing jobs and investing business money in his dead-end projects no-one cares about like Soviet Jump Game and his book they'd be set for years to come.

This is what I don't understand financially with Game Grumps. I know the comparison has been made several times, but I look at Oney Plays and wonder what the difference is.

Chris has Tomar and Lyle as cohosts, with Zack coming in when he has time, and we've seen a return of Ding Dong and Julian, he's got about four or five editors that he cycles through for videos with another doing compilations, a general manager to keep everything organized, and a couple artists to create thumbnails. Not including the artists, you're looking at about ten people total, on top of all the people Chris is paying to work on Bowlbo. Oney Plays gets about half the amount of views that Game Grumps gets, so they probably make about half as much. But Oney Plays doesn't take sponsorships, they don't take brand deals, and outside of maybe two small videos a year, they don't constantly push their merch, nor do they push out new weekly merch.

So why is it that Game Grumps is struggling enough to finally open a Patreon, when Oney Plays is doing more with less? Is Chris giving out blowies behind the YouTube offices to appeal to the almighty Algorithm? Or is there actually something to Brent and who knows how many others having a six figure salary doing ???
